Objectives: This study was conducted to evaluate the acute toxicity and safety of Ssanghwa-tang (Shuanhetang in Chinese, Sou-wa-to in Japanese) in Crl: CD Sprague-Dawley (SD) rat though the current regulatory guideline. Methods: In this study, 10 rats of each sex were randomly assigned to two groups of 5 rats each and were administrated singly by gavage at dose levels of 0 and 2000 mg/kg/day of ssanghwa-tang water extract (SHT). After single administration of SHT, mortalities, clinical signs, body weight changes, gross findings were observed for the 15-day period. Results: Acute toxicity tests revealed that a single oral administration of SHT at dose levels of 2000 mg/kg did not affect clinical signs, body weight, and gross findings, evaluating the safety of SHT. The SHT treatment did not result in any toxicologically significant changes in mortality, clinical signs, body weight changes. Conclusions: These results showed that the single oral administration of SHT did not cause any toxic effect at the dose levels of 2000 mg/kg/day in rats. In conclusion, the median lethal dose (LD50) of SHT was considered to be over 2000 mg/kg/day body for both sexes.

In the rapidly changing Society of modern world, the calligraphy education is an effective method of education that can develop patience, sensitivity and creativity of the students. Teachers can help students experience patience and aesthetic experiences by proper class procedure. By this time, a primary focus of the class has been on teaching and a teacher-centered classroom. If the class will be changed to learning and a learner-centered classroom, the effective class will be achived. This paper suggests a model of class which is classified into three different levels.

Appreciation - activity is the most necessary part in art education for elementary School students in the sense that it contributes to develop students' emotion and feeling. A Text of art is divided into two : expression and appreciation. These two elements are equally important in art education. However, in art education, appreciation has been considered as a secondary area of expression and the most difficult field for teachers. As a result, expression - activity has been much more emphasized than appreciation - activity. The purpose of this thesis is to call attention to the significance of appreciation which is as important as expression and to activate appreciation - activity by presenting a model of an effective teaching of appreciation.

Titian Vecellio (1487~1575) is considered to be the greatest artist in sixteenth century Venetian art. The earlier paintings of Titian show the remarkable influence of Giovanni Belini and Giorgione. As a pioneer of Baroque style, Titian is also a forerunner of artists in the seventeenth century such as Peter Paul Rubens and Rembrandt Harmensz. Succeeding the technique of oil painting of Flanders artists, Titian established the pictorial colourism in Venice which is contrasted with the sculptural formalism in Florence. It is in the technique of expressing colour that Titian's paintings are highly appreciated. The purpose of this thesis is to explore the issue of colour in Venetian art especially through Titian's works.

ABSTRACT These days when we are concerned about personal egoistic thought which has been spreading out because of the tendency of postmodern theory since 1950´s, it would be significant that we study J. Dewey´s pragmatist theory which is full of the principle of harmony and unity.In particular to we consider Dewey´s art education theory based on pragmatism would be more significant because the situation of teaching and learning is treated in the field of ordinary life as well as in the classroom in Dewey´s art education theory. In this study I will consider the concept and play of intelligence and emotion have the influence on children.Studying the concept and role of them, we will realize that art renders us aware of their union with one another in origin and destiny.Education through at should serve to enhance the sense of community.
