Expression analysis of RBMY1, CDY1, and VCY2 genes in Korean male infertility

무정자증에 영향을 미치는 AZFa, b, c 영역은 남성불임환자에서 잦은 미세결실이 발견됨으로써 정자형성과정에서 중요한 역할을 할 것으로 주목 받아왔다. 이들 영역에 있는 유전자중 RBMY1, CDY1 그리고 VCY2유전자는 고환에서 남성의 생식선 세포의 분화와 연관되어 있는 것으로 알려졌다. 42명의 무정자증 환자의 고환조직을 RT-PCR법으로 분석해본 결과 RBMY1, CDY1 그리고 VCY2 유전자는 각각 34%, 66%, 그리고 27%의 환자에서 발현되지 않는 것으로 조사되었다. RBMY1 과 VCY2유전자가 발현되지 않는 개체는 CDY1유전자도 역시 발현이 되지 않았다. 세르토리 세포만 가진 환자에서는 CDY1 유전자가 발현되지 않았다. 따라서, CDY1 유전자는 한국인 집단에서 정자형성과정의 필수적인 요인인 것으로 사료된다. Azoospermia factor(AZFa, b, and c) regions have been focused on their involvement in the spermatogenic process by frequent observation of microdeletion in male infertility. Among the azoospermia factors, RBMY1, CDY1, and VCY2 genes are strongly associated with the male germinal cell differentiation and development in testis. Using RT-PCR approach, expression patterns of RBMY1, CDY1, and VCY2 genes are examined in testicular biopsy specimens from 42 Korean azoospermic patients. No expression of RBMY1, CDY1, and VCY2 genes appeared as 34%, 66%, and 27% of the male infertility, respectively. Patients who had no expression of RBMY1 and VCY2 genes also showed negative expression of the CDY1 gene in their testis tissues. All Sertoli cell-only syndrome patients showed no expression of the CDY1 gene. Taken together, the CDY1 gene expression seems to be necessary factor to complete spermatogenesis in Korean population.
Predicting heat transfer performance in a complex heat exchanger for LNG FGSS development

In this study, a reasonable design option for improving the thermal performance of a newly designed complex heat exchanger that can simultaneously heat LNG) and BOG) is analyzed and evaluated. The relative heat transfer rates are compared according to the changes in the steam supply method, and the flow characteristics, heat transfer rate, and internal pressure of the steam inside the shell of the complex heat exchanger are interpreted using computational fluid analysis. Without distribution plates, the heat transfer rate to LNG increases as the steam supply inlet in the complex heat exchanger increases. However, if distribution plates are present, then the heat transfer rate decreases. It is discovered that there is a significant difference in the heat transfer rates for BOG depending on the presence or absence of distribution plates, and the impact of the steam supply inlet is almost negligible. These results confirm that selecting an appropriate combination based on the design conditions is necessary for the optimal design of a complex heat exchanger.

A 36-year-old male patient developed diffuse low back pain. His past medical history was unremarkable and had no family history of neuromuscular disease. He had no bladder and bowel problems. Creatine kinase was 172 U/L (normal < 170). Other fluid and blood chemistry tests were normal. Manual muscle test grades of extremities and sensory examination were normal. Muscle stretch reflexes were normal. Fasciculations and myotonia were not detected. Straight leg raising test was negative. There was no spinal root compression, spinal stenosis, or signal intensity change of spinal cord on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Fatty change and atrophy of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar paraspinal muscles were noted on MRI. Nerve conduction studies were normal. Electromyography showed 1+ positive sharp waves in the lumbar paraspinal muscles. Electromyography of upper and lower extremity muscles revealed no abnormal spontaneous activity. We report a rare case of severe paraspinal muscle atrophy with fatty degeneration in a Young Adult.
치료적 초음파를 결합한 뻗침운동이 긴장성 두통 환자의 목주변 근육에 미치는 즉각적인 효과

Purpose: This study aimed to provide objective and basic data for an effective treatment method by examining changesin the mechanical properties of muscles and the degree of tenderness when a combination of stretching exercise andultrasound therapy is applied to patients with tension headaches. Methods: The participants were classified into two groupsbased on the intervention received: the therapeutic ultrasound combined with suboccipital stretching (n=15, experimentalgroup) and infrared combined with suboccipital stretching (n=15, control group) groups. The intragroup differences inmechanical muscle properties and modified total tenderness score were compared and analyzed. Results: The comparisonand analyses of the changes in muscle tone and stiffness revealed statistically significant intragroup decreases in the uppertrapezius and suboccipitalis in the experimental group. Similarly, the comparison and analyses of the changes in musclestiffness revealed statistically significant intragroup decreases in the upper trapezius in the control group. Conclusion:Therapeutic ultrasound combined with suboccipitalis stretching effectively increased the flexibility of the muscles aroundthe cervical vertebrae and reduced muscle tension and stiffness in tension-type headache patients
Physical and Chemical Properties of Nano-slag Mixed Mortar

As buildings have become higher and larger, the use of high performance concrete has increased. With this increase,interest in and use of ultra fine powder admixture is also on the rise. The silica fume and BSF are the admixtures currently being used in Korea. However, silica fume is exclusively import dependent because it is not produced in Korea. In the case of BFS, it greatly improves concrete fluidity and long-term strength. But a problem exists in securing early strength. Furthermore, air-cooled slag is being discarded, buried in landfills, or used as road bed materials because of its low activation energy. Therefore, we investigated in this study the usability of nano-slag (both rapidly-chilled and air-cooled) as an alternative material to the silica fume. We conducted a physic-chemical analysis for the nano-slag powder and performed a mortar test to propose quality standards. The analysis and testing were done to find out the industrial usefulness of the BFS that has been grinded to the nano-level.

sent a potential infectious risk in pig-to-human transplantations. Solitary long terminal repeat (LTR) elements from the PERVs are investigated by PCR amplification, methylation analyses, and promoter asays. Among 6 diferent hybrid individuals (KYP1-6) of KDP (Korean domestic pig)× Yorkshire, a haploid genome of KYP1 and KYP5, while the LTRs from PERV-A5, -A7, and -A8 loci were detected in the diploid genome of all hybrid pigs. Methylation analyses of those solitary LTR elements using genomic DNAs of various tisues from pigs indicated that the solitary LTR element from the PERV-X9 locus was hypomethylated, whereas the solitary LTR elements froloci were hypermethylated in most tisues examined. The solitary LTR element of the PERV-X9-KYP1 clone that had recently integrated into the haploid genome showed les promoter activity than the older PERV-A5-KYP1, PERV-A7-KYP1, PERV-A8-KYP1 LTRs detected in diploid genome of pigs. Our data suggest that the LTR elements having high al activity in various tissues of pigs.

The characteristic phenotype of partial trisomy 14 includes growth and developmental Porcine endogenous retroviruses (PERVs) in the pig genome represent potential infectious risk factors in pig-to-human transplantation. Solitary long terminal repeat (LTR) elements of the PERV specificaly afect the replication properties of single viruses and adjacent genes through their transcription factors. The promoter activity of solitary LTR elements belonging to the PERV-A and -B families in Korean wild pig (KWP) using a luciferase assay were examined. Five types of LTR structure (PERV-A5-KWP, PERV-A6-KWP1, PERV-A6-KWP2, PERV-A7-KWP, PERV-A8-KWP) showed different promoter activity in human HCT116 and COS7 cels. PERV-A6-KWP locus harbors the diferent copy number (seven or eight) of 39 bp repeats located in U3 region and showed diferent promoter activity. Our data sugests that copy numbers of 39 bp repeats and specific insertion and deletion (INDEL) sequences in the U3 region of a solitary LTR element could regulate the diferent transcription activity in pig genome.
