In the micro fluidic devices the most important thing is mixing efficiency of various fluids. In this study a newly designed mixer is proposed to enhance the mixing effect with the purpose to apply it to microchannel mixing in a short future. This design is composed of a channel with cross baffles periodically arranged on the both bottom and top surfaces of the channel. To obtain the flow patterns, the numerical computation was performed by using a commercial code, ANSYS CFX 10.0. To evaluate the mixing performance, we computed Lyapunov exponent and obtained Poincare sections. It was shown that our design provides the excellent mixing effect.

In this study we investigated the characteristics of fluid flow and heat transfer within a coolant passage in the cylinder head assembly of an internal combustion engine by using a commercial CFD code, CFX The complex coolant passage of the cylinder head assembly was modelled by suitable choice of a grid system and careful attention was paid in the construction of meshes near the walls where significant cooling occurs. To treat the simultaneous heating and cooling of the combustion walls we invented a methodology allowing a heat source within the solid wall and the convective cooling at the interface between the solid and the fluid. We managed to reproduce the experimental results by adjusting parameters appropriately. We have found that high temperature was concentrated at the surface of the cylinder jacket. It turned out that the effect of oil cooling from the piston head was unexpectedly significant. On the other hand the effect of cooling from the ambient air is almost negligible. The CFD method proposed in this study is believed to be useful in the early stage of the design of the engine-cooling system.

In general, The jet stream has turbulent property, and further contains a series of vortices of various size. In this paper, we present flow pattern and separation characteristics by numerical analysis when materials(or particles) of different density were separated by using this circular jet stream within a circular container. We present separated property as particle trajectory. We compute by commercial code ANSYS CFX 10.0

In this paper, we present flow patterns and performance of an air-flow separator by using the numerical analysis. With this separator, particles of different density are to be separated by using the drag force from the air flow. The low-density particles are designed to be separated by using inhalation through holes on a rotating drum. To obtain the flow informations needed for determining the proper design parameters, we have performed numerical simulations by using a commercial code, ANSYS CFX. Various parameter set was tested and it was found that depending on the design of drums there exist critical.
