This paper presents a neural expert system approach to designing an intelligent strategic planning system. The main recipe of the proposed neural expert system is a bi-directional inference mechanism capable of performing forward and/or backward inference mechanism. Four strategic planning portfolio models are considered such as BCG matrix, Growth/Gain matrix, GE matrix, and Product/Market Evolution Portfolio matrix. The proposed neural expert system could provide "what-if" functions as well as "goal-seeking" functions, which proved to be very useful for the unstructured decision making problems such as strategic planning problems. What-if functions were accomplished through the forward inference mechanism, enabling the neural expert system to provide appropriate outputs with respect to the given inputs. Also goal-seeking functions were realized through the backward inference mechanism, enabling the neural expert system to show the appropriate inputs (or conditions) to guarantee the desired level of outputs. To implement our idea, we developed a prototype system, named StratPlanner, running on Windows 95. Using the Korean automobile data, we performed experiments under the experimentally designed competitive situations. Results support our supposition that the neural expert systems approach is useful for performing competitive analyses. Further research topics associated with the current research are discussed.

This study focuses on the development and production of 120 W LED street-lamps using four 30 W chip on board (COB) LED modules. The lamps’ heat dissipation efficiency was improved by packaging 30 W COB LEDs and thermoelectric modules. This study was also conducted to reduce the thermoelectric element driving power consumption and minimize the thermoelectric element driving power, resulting from forced heat dissipation. Results indicated that the minimum metal temperature of the metal core printed circuit board (MCPCB) reached 68.1℃ when the thermoelectric power consumption was 0.7 W; a temperature drop effect of approximately 16.1% occurred. The life extension effect is expected to be approximately 48.5% according to the lifespan arithmetic. Thus, this technology can be applied to reduce the temperature and extend the life of COB LED modules; small-sized and lightweight luminaries can be realized by addressing the thermal problem of LED modules.

We fabricated and investigated the thermal characteristics of TO-CAN (transistor-outline-can) packaged long wavelength GaInAsP/InP FabryPerot laser diode. Characteristic temperature of 55 K and peak wavelength shift of 0.4 nm/.C depending on the temperaturessuring junction temperature. Results from experiment and estimation are compared at extreme operating conditions in which showagreement within 1.C.
Al_2O_3/MgAl_2O_4 복합체 제조시 혼합고정에 따른 미세구조 변화

In this study, the effect of mixing process on the microstructure of Al_2O_3/MgAl_2O_4 composites has been investigated. In using a MgO source for the formation of Mg-spinel, the addition of solution type Mg-nitrate showed more homogeneous microstructure compared to the case of addition of MgO powder. In a mixing process, the planetary-milling showed more homogeneous microstructure compared to conventional ball-milling process.
