This paper presents acceleration data analysis of an automatic roughness measurement device. Rolling noise is the main cause of train noises, and this noise is occurred by rail surface condition. In order to reduce the noise, the surface roughness condition of rails has to be measured. We compare FEM analysis and experimental data of the acceleration sensor unit of the plate-spring-type measuring unit and analyze acceleration data according to operating speed of device. Also We analyze about effect of the damper.

This paper presents a new design of an automatic measuring device of rail roughness. Rolling noise is one of the main cause of train noises, this noise is occurred by rail surface condition. In order to reduce the noise, the surface roughness condition of rails has to be measured. The newly designed device shows batter performance in view of the reduction of vibration and operating speed. The detailed design concepts of each part of the device are given. We explain purpose of the design and specification of each parts.
