        생체 흡수성 코폴리머 고정판을 이용한 안와골절의 치료

        Purpose: BioSorbFX?(BIONX Implant Inc.) and Macropore?(Medtronics Inc.) are mesh-type resorbable copolymer plate. This report presents a new model necessary for orbital wall reconstruction, accoding to the operative outcomes of orbital fracture with its use. Methods: A follow-up on 11 patients was performed to ascertain the operative effects of the mesh-type resorbable material for 6 months. Results: The patients were 7 males and 4 females. The patients` average age was 29.7 years and the mean follow-up period was 8.1 months. The most common site of fracture was inferior wall. In these cases, simultaneous fracture of the medial wall and floor was frequently observed. One case showed limitation of ocular movement, diplopias and enophthalmos simultaneously; 3 cases, enophthalmos and diplopia; 5 cases showed limitation of ocular movement and diplopia; and 2 cases, considerable possibility or the presence of enophthalmos due to extended fracture size. The cases improved remarkably after being operated and none were observed to have worsened. Moreover, serious complications, such as visual loss, the infection of implants, dislocation, exposure, etc., were not observed. Conclusions: Altogether, it is considered that the mesh-type resorbable copolymer plate may be safely used in orbital wall reconstruction without conspicuous complication.

        세 개의 작은 절개창, 두 봉합을 이용한 비절개 이중검 성형술의 효과

        Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of using the nonincisional, double fold formation method with three small incisions and two-stitches. Methods: This study included 39 patients who underwent double eyelid operation by a nonincisional technique and who were followed up for more than 6 months. On the desired double eyelid line, three points 6 mm apart were marked and three stab incisions made. A small amount of subcutaneous tissue was removed through the incisions, and orbital fat was removed through the lateral wound site-if necessary. Using double-armed 7-0 nylon or prolene, two buried sutures of 6 mm width were made. Sixteen patients also underwent surgery for epiblepharon, and three patients with unilateral double eyelid due to trauma had a contralateral eyelid operation for asymmetry correction. Five patients also had epicanthoplasty. Results: Two patients lost their folds completely and reoperations were performed. Two patients showed cysts due to suture material and so the suture knots were removed; the double fold remained afterwards, so no other procedures were needed. In one case, the suture was seen subcutaneously, so suture removal and reoperation were performed. Conclusions: To minimize double fold loss, which is a disadvantage of the nonincisional double fold formation technique, we removed a portion of pretarsal tissue, muscle, and/or orbital fat and made two wide slings. Also, we corrected asymmetry due to traumatic unilateral double eyelid and epicanthal fold. In conclusion, we expect that our method could extend the applicability of nonincisional double fold formation.

        아포지단백 E 유전자 변이와 백내장의 관련성

        Purpose: To evaluate the association of apolipoprotein E (APOE) polymorphism and cataracts in the Korean population. Methods: The present research included participants from a population-based study in Incheon, Korea. A sample of 126 adults genotyped for polymorphisms of APOE underwent a medical interview, an eye examination which included visual acuity testing, slitlamp cataract evaluation and fundus examination. The APOE polymorphism was determined using a polymerase chain reaction method. Results: Eighty-eight participants (69.8%) were diagnosed with cataracts or had undergone cataract surgery in 1 or both eyes, and 38 participants (30.2%) demonstrated no signs of cataract. The frequencies of the APOE genotypes and alleles were not significantly different from the cataract and the control group. APOE ε2 carriers were less likely to have cataracts than non-ε2 carriers with an odds ratio of 0.367 which was almost statistically significant with the multiple logistic regression analysis (p = 0.052). Conclusions: There was no significant correlation of APOE genotype and cataracts. However, a slight negative association of APOE ε2 and cataracts were found in the Korean population.         SD BIOLINE Chagas Ab Rapid 키트의 평가

        Background : Chagas’ disease is caused by Trypanosoma cruzi, a protozoan parasite, which is transmitted by blood-sucking bugs or through blood transfusion or organ transplantation. It is endemic in Central and South America. The objective of this study was to compare the performance of immunochromatographic SD Bioline Chagas Ab Rapid (Standard Diagnostics, Korea) with three immunochromatographic kits for the detection of antibodies to T. cruzi. Methods : A total of 320 serum specimens (140 positive and 180 negative) from National Reference Laboratory for Chagas and Leishmaniasis (NRLCL, Honduras) were used for the evaluation of four different test kits: SD Bioline Chagas Ab Rapid, Chagas Stat-Pak Assay (Chembio Diagnositc Systems, USA), OnSite Chagas Ab Rapid test-Cassette (CTK Biotech, USA), and Trypanosoma Detect Rapid Test (InBios International, USA). The results of four kits were compared with those of NRLCL. Cross-reactivity with other parasites was also evaluated. Results : Compared with the results of NRLCL, sensitivity and specificity were 99.3% and 100% for both of SD and Chembio kits, 97.2% and 100% for InBios kit, and 97.9% and 98.8% for CTK kit. None of other parasites showed cross-reactivity. Conclusions : SD Bioline Chagas Ab Rapid kit showed test results highly correlating with those of National Reference Laboratory for Chagas and Leishmaniasis. It can be used for a rapid detection of Chagas’ disease in endemic region and monitoring the disease among overseas travelers in Korea. 배경 : 샤가스병은 크루스 파동편모충(Trypanosoma cruzi) 이 원인으로 빈대에 물리거나 수혈과 장기 이식 등에 의해 감염 되는 중남미 지역의 풍토병이다. 국내의 경우 감염된 사례는 없 으나 중남미 지역의 해외여행자를 통한 샤가스병의 감염을 관 리할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 최근 국내에서 개발된 면역크 로마토그래피법의 SD Bioline Chagas Ab Rapid (에스디, 대 한민국)를 세 가지 면역크로마토그래피법시약과 비교 평가하고 자 하였다. 방법 : 온두라스 국립 샤가스 연구원으로부터 수집한 검체 320건(샤가스 양성 검체 140건, 음성 검체 180건)을 대상으로, SD Bioline Chagas Ab Rapid 키트를 Chagas Stat-Pak Assay (Chembio Diagnositc Systems, USA), OnSite Chagas Ab Rapid test-Cassette (CTK Biotech, USA), Trypanosoma Detect Rapid Test (InBios International, USA) 등과 비교하였다. 온두라스 국립 샤가스 연구원의 결과에 대한 민감도와 특이도를 비교하였고, 다른 기생충 질환과의 교차반 응을 평가하였다. 결과 : 온두라스 국립 샤가스 연구원 검사에 의한 결과와 비 교 시 각 검사 키트의 민감도와 특이도는 SD 키트와 Chembio 키트는 99.3%, 100%이었고, InBios 키트는 97.2%, 100%, CTK 키트는 97.9%, 98.8%이었다. 다른 기생충 질환과의 교차 반응 은 없었다. 결론 : SD Bioline Chagas Ab Rapid 키트는 온두라스 국립 샤가스 연구원 결과와의 일치율이 우수하였다. 따라서 국내에 서 개발된 SD Bioline Chagas Ab Rapid 키트는 샤가스병이 풍토병인 지역의 감염 진단과 해외여행자를 통한 국내 샤가스 병 감염 관리에 유용할 것이다.

        Development of a Quantitative Sandwich Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay for Detecting the MPT64 Antigen of Mycobacterium tuberculosis

        Purpose: Tuberculosis (TB) is a major infectious disease and is responsible for two million deaths annually. For the identification and quantitation of Mycobacteriumtuberculosis (M. tuberculosis), a causative agent of TB, a sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) against the MPT64 protein of M. tuberculosis,an antigen marker of the M. tuberculosis complex, was developed. Materials and Methods: The MPT64 protein was expressed, and anti-MPT64 monoclonal antibodies were prepared. A sandwich ELISA was established using recombinant MPT64 protein and anti-MPT64 monoclonal antibodies. The sandwich MPT64 ELISA was evaluated using reference and clinical mycobacterial strains. Results: The sandwich MPT64 ELISA detected MPT64 protein from 2.1 ng/mL to 250 ng/mL (equivalent to 1.7×104 CFU/mL and 2.0×106 CFU/mL). All 389 clinical M. tuberculosisisolates tested positive in the sandwich MPT64 ELISA (sensitivity, 100%), and the assay showed no cross reactivity to any tested nontuberculous mycobacterialstrain (specificity, 100%). Conclusion: The sandwich MPT64 ELISA is a highly sensitive and quantitative test for MPT64 protein, which can identify M. tuberculosis.

        리튬이온이차전지용 구형 Li<sub>4</sub>Ti<sub>5</sub>O<sub>12</sub> 음극 합성 및 Y와 Nb 도핑에 따른 전기화학적 특성

        Yttrium (Y) and niobium (Nb) doped spherical $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ were synthesized to improve the energy density and electrochemical properties of anode material. The synthesized crystal was $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$, the particle size was less than $1{\mu}m$ and the morphology was spherical and well dispersed. The Y and Nb optimal doping amounts were 1 mol% and 0.5 mol%, respectively. The initial capacity of the dopant discharge and charge capacity were respectively 149mAh/g and 143 mAh/g and were significantly improved compared to the undoped condition at 129 mAh/g. Also, the capacity retention of 0.2 C/5 C was 74% for each was improved to 94% and 89%. It was consequently found that Y and Nb doping into the $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ matrix reduces the polarization and resistance of the solid electrolyte interface (SEI) layer during the electrochemical reaction.
