Insulator is being used for material of railroad vehicles as a barrier of heat and noise. But it shows various fire properties in case of fire. In this study, we compared smoke density(Ds) values of rubber foams with the different thickness of glass fiber cross-Al foil according to the standard of ASTM E 662. The result showed that the insulator and barrier property played an important role in decreasing the value of smoke density

The seat materials are composed of the cover, cushion and plate. In case of fire, the fire characteristics of seat materials show various combustion properties. In this study, The Heat Release Rate(HRR), Total Smoke Release(TRS), and Mass Lost(ML) values of seat materials were investigated using Cone-Calorimeter testing according to ISO 5660 Part and Ⅰ. The combustion properties of cover, cushion, plate and complex body were compared in terms of Ⅱ HRR, TSR, and ML. The results shows that the combustion properties of complex body must be considered

Kinds of Sound & Thermal Insulator are being used for materials of railroad vehicles as a barrier of heat and noise. Glass Wool, PE foam, PP foam are such kinds of materials. In case of fire, it shows various combustion properties. In this study, we compared the Smoke Density of the Rubber Foam Insulator by test between Cone-Calorimeter and Smoke Density-Chamber. The results showed that the Rubber Foam Insulator had an important role in the insulator thickness and the test method, We forecast the smoke density by test between Cone-Calorimeter and Smoke Density-Chamber.

We generally get the Heat Release Rate by two other method. One is the calculation method from the Oxygen consumption rate and another is the calibration curve method of Temperature rising rate. In this study we compare the results of both test methods with five same specimens. From the test result we get the difference of reproducibility and checked some reasons of the difference. This paper includes some points to be careful for more creditable results for each test method.

In this study we reviewed the real scale fire tests of rolling stocks around the world. Especially the tests of NIST, CSIRO and the Japanese case were reported with the Mock Up tests conducted in Korea after the Dague Fire Accident. We also reported the composite car body case test briefly. Some promotion of the test system was considered on the composite body test for more credible results. More adjusted system is need for Fire Test of Real Scale rolling stocks.

In this study we investigated the materials which locate in the subway station and train cars. We checked the flammability of the materials such as the signboard, newspaper, wide color film etc. We reported some kind of the data such as oxygen index, optical smoke density, surface flame spread speed for that materials. We hope this data will be help to decide the guideline for such materials.

The advanced country established the test standard (e.g., BS, EN) to measure the toxic gases quantitatively and, have applied to enhance the fire safety of railway car. We must also follow the procedures to use interior material for railway car as stated the Safety regulation for the urban railway car. Currently, various interior materials are used to obtain the fire safety of railway car. The amount of toxic gases moved into colorimetric gas detector tubes from the ISO 5659 chamber was measured and compared the results for composite and single materials. As result of gas analyses, The smoke density(Ds) of combustion gases producted from composite of seat material had the excellent value than single material

Due to the damage which is caused by with the smoke, in the analysis statistics of a fire accident smoke is becoming the important evaluation index of fire quality. We must follow the procedures to use interior material for railway car as stated the Safety regulation for the urban railway car. In this study, we compared the Smoke Density of the train seat by test between Cone-Calorimeter and Smoke Density-Chamber. The results showed that the smoke density by test between Cone-Calorimeter and Smoke Density-Chamber is visible a similar tendency.
