내독소로 유도된 급성 폐 손상에서 게르마늄의 투여로 인한 호중구 세포사의 증가

호중구는 다양한 원인에 의해서 발생되는 급성 폐 손상의 발병기전에 중요한 역할을 담당한다. 폐 손상 시 순환계로부터 유입된 호중구들에 대한 폐포강 대식세포의 탐식작용이 증가될 경우 손상기전에 미치는 영향을 알아 보기 위해 내독소를 흰쥐의 기관지 내로 분무하고 유기게르마늄을 복강으로 투여하였다. 실험 결과 내독소 투여 5시간 후 체중당 폐 무게와 폐 세척액 내 단백질 함량은 유의하게 (p<0.001) 증가되었으나, 게르마늄 병행 투여로 폐 무게와 단백질 함량은 현저하게 (p<0.001, p<0.01) 감소되었다. 내독소 투여군은 폐 손상과 함께 폐포강 내 호중구는 유의하게 (p<0.05) 증가되었으나, 게르마늄의 투여로 감소되었고 폐포강 내 탐식된 호중구의 비율은 증가되었다. 이와 같은 결과들을 볼 때, 유기 게르마늄은 내독소증에 의한 급성 폐 손상에서 폐포강 대식세포들의 호중구 탐식작용을 증가시켜 폐 손상을 감소시킬 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. Neutrophils that influx into the alveolar spaces from circulatory bloods play a important role in pathogenesis of acute lung injury. During the acute inflammatory phase, in order to investigate the acceleration of macrophage phagocytosis to the neutrophils is able to reduce the neutrophil-derived acute lung injury, endotoxemia was induced by insufflation of lipopolysaccharide intratracheally and organic germanium was injected intraperitoneally after endotoxin treatment. At 5 h after endotoxin treatment, lung weight and BAL protein concentration are significantly increased (p<0.001) compared to sham, and that was remarkedly decreased (p<0.001, p<0.01) by injection of germanium. In addition germanium treatment resulted to decreased the number of alveolar PMNs and to increase the percentage of engulfed neutrophils by alveolar macrophages. These observations indicate that organic germanium may have a role of reduction to neutrophil-derived acute lung injury in endotoxemia.

Pyrococcus furiosus 유래 고온성 DNA polymerase 유전자의 발현 및 정제

현재 Pfu DNA polymerase을 이용한 PCR은 여러 방면에서 많이 사용되는 한 방법으로 자리잡고 있으며 다양한 PCR 방법의 출현으로 다양한 학문에서 널리 쓰이고 있다. 본 연구는 P. furiosus 유래 DNA polymerase를 E. coli에 클로닝 및 발현에 성공하였으며,affinity chromatography를 이용해 손쉽게 Pfu DNA polymerase를 정 제할 수 있었다. 정제된 재조합 Pfu DNA polymerase는 여 러 DNA를 이용해 PCR반응을 수행한 결과,성공적으로 원하는 DNA가 증폭 됨을 확인 되었다. 또한 PCR반응에서 재조합 Pfu DNA polymerase 의 농도가 중요한 factor가 됨을 확인하였다. DNA polymerase gene from Pyrococcus furiosus, an extremely thermophilic archaea, was amplified using PCR. Pyrococcus furiosus DNA polymerase (Pfu) was successfully expressed in E. coli MC1061 and the recombinant enzyme was efficiently purified with Ni-NTA affinity chromatography.Optimal Pfu concentration was studied for the effective PCR reaction.

『海上述林』을 통해 본 瞿秋白과 魯迅의 문화적 연대의 의미

Haishangshulin(海上述林) is a book that was compiled and published in honor of his dead friend after he was killed on June 18, 1935. This book consists of two volumes. The first volume contains theories on the literature and art of Marx, Engels, Plehanov and Lafarg, while the lower notes translate works of Goriki, Lunacharski's plays, poems, novels and prose. The text of “Reality” in the first volume is a translation of the classical literary theory of Marx and Engels, which was newly known in the Soviet Union, which, in addition to translation, established the new realism theory needed by China by using the method of preamble in each chapter. Lunacharsky’s liberated Don Quixote,, listed in the second volume, is a collaboration between Lu xun(魯迅) and Qu qiubai(瞿秋白). They translated the work to reason out the fate that intellectuals had to face in the course of the proletarian revolution and explore ways to overcome it. After studying Haishangshulin, realism is at the heart of the cultural solidarity between Lu xun and Qu qiubai. In other words, Lu xun and Qu qiubai tried to create a different world of literature with realism based on classism that emerged as the ‘new reality’ of the 1930s. The title of Haishangshulin, which can be interpreted as meaning “build a forest on the sea” symbolizes the core of such cultural solidarity between Lu xun and Qu qiubai.

안경렌즈에서 굴절력의 분포에 대한 조사

Purpose: In this study, the distribution in refractive powers on lenses was investigated. Methods: We used +1.50D, ±2.00D and -3.00D spherical lenses which were distributed in Korea. Refractive powers at 0~25 mm from optical center were measured, and then, their optical uniformity were surveyed according to international standards. Results: Refractive power, power error and frequency measured cylindrical power were increased respectively as optical point was far from optical center. In the case of (-) lenses, most of powers which were measured at 20~25 mm from optical center exceeded the tolerance. There were no cases exceeding tolerance for (+) lenses. Conclusions: The hard process control and precision quality control will be essential to secure a higher competitiveness of Korean products in the domestic and foreign marketplace.

The Effects of Fathers’ Working Hours on Youth Behavior: Evidence from a Change in the Standard Workweek

This study estimates the effects of fathers’ hours worked on their children’s behavior. To identify the source of the exogenous change, it uses the legislated reduction in the workweek that was implemented in Korea. Since the new system was applied to large establishments first, one could analyze the effects using a difference-in-differences estimation method. This study finds that the system change increases boys’ hours of self-study and decreases their alcohol use (reduced-form estimates). The channel is fathers’ increased knowledge of their children’s whereabouts and the children’s decreased conflict with their parents. However, no effects are found on girls’ behavior.

장기간 체중부하 운동훈련이 흰쥐 노화 심근에 미치는 영향

장기간 체중부하운동이 흰쥐의 심근에 미치는 효과를 규명하기 위하여 생후 3개월, 10개월 및 20개월된 흰쥐를 5개월간 운동시킨 후 각각의 비운동군과 비교하여 심근의 조직학적ㆍ세포학적 변화를 관찰하고, 심근세포내 미세구조적 변화를 입체해석학적으로 비교 분석하였다. 운동 15개월군부터 노화색소의 양이 현저히 증가되었고 사립체의 변성, 공포화 현상 그리고 간질조직의 증식이 뚜렷하였으며, 25개월군에서는 윤반분리, 근원섬유의 소실 및 과수축대 출현빈도가 증가되었다. Glucose-6-phosphatase의 활성도는 15개월 운동군에서 감소하여 25개월 운동군에서는 활성도가 거의 나타나지 않았다. 입체해석학적 결과에서도 장기간 체중부하운동으로 인해 15개월, 25개월군에서 모두 사립체와 근원섬유의 체적밀도는 감소되었고, 간질조직의 체적밀도는 증가되었다. 본 연구의 결과로 볼 때 장기간 체중부하운동은 3개월군에 있어서 심장에 미치는 역효과가 없으나 10개월군과 20개월군에서는 심근기능강화에 역효과를 초래 할 우려가 큰 것으로 판단된다. There is considerable interests in the effect of regular, vigorous exercise, in particular weight training as a possible measure in improving myocardial function. The present investigation aimed to examine possible effect of a long-term weight training program on the heart in aging rats. Male rats aged 3-,10-, and 20-month-old were divided at random into a control (sedentary) and the exercise group. The training group was exercised for 5 days a week by 1 RM of ten times with weight training apparatus. This investigation examined the changes of the heart muscle relative to histological, ultrastructural, cytochemical, and stereological studies in rats. Quantity of lipofuscin pigments was clearly increased in the weight training group of 15-month-old rats, and mitochondrial degeneration, vacuolization, and interstitial proliferation were observed as well. In the weight training group of 25-month-old rats the frequency as separated intercalated discs, fraying myofibrils and hypercontraction band increased in number compared with the same 15-mon1h-old group. From the experimental result of glucose-6-phosphatase activity, the enzyme activities decreased in the weight training group of 15-month-old rats, and more decreased in the same 25-month-old group. In stereological study, both 15- and 25-month-old training groups, mitochondrial and myofibrilar volume densities significantly decreased, whereas interstitial volume density significantly increased. From the experimental results obtained in the present study, it is suggested that long-term weight training exercise do not cause any significantly qualitative and quantitative ultrastructural change of the heart muscle in the young. On the contrary, long-term weight training exercise stress may actually induce degenerative changes in the heart muscle in the old age.

부분조절내사시 수술 후 융합버전스 훈련을 이용한 시 교정사례

목적: 융합버전스 훈련이 부분조절내사시 수술 후 폭주과다를 보이는 피검사자의 시력교정에 미치는 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 방법: Block string, tranaglyphs, aperture ruler 및 저자들이 제작한 융합훈련 프로그램을 이용하여 4주 동안(주 6일, 매회 1시간씩) 강제훈련을 실시하였다. 결과: 내사시는 원거리 6△, 근거리 8△ 감소되었고, 시력은 양안 모두 0.8에서 1.0으로 향상되었다. 결론: 부분조절내사시 수술 후 폭주과다를 보이는 경우 융합버전스 훈련은 양안 시기능개선과 시력교정 에 유용한 방법이다. Purpose: This study was examined whether fusional vergence therapy is an effective method for improvements of binocular functions and visual acuity on subject who has convergence excess after partially accommodative esotropia surgery. Methods: Fusional vergence therapy was performed to subject by force for 4 weeks (6 days a week, for 1 hour once) using block string, tranaglyphs, aperture ruler, and training program of fusional vergence that is made by authors. Results: Esotropia was decreased 6△ at far and 8△ at near, visual acuity was improved in 1.0 from 0.8 in both OD and OS. Conclusions: Fusional vergence therapy is an useful method for improvements of binocular functions and visual correction in case of convergence excess after partially accommodative esotropia surgery.

부모 경험 효과: 출생순위에 따른 출생월 분석

한국에서 신생아는 연초에 가장 많이 태어난다. 이것이 부모가 의도한 것이면 아이를 연초에 낳을 확률은 부모 경험이 없는 첫째 아이 때보다 부모경험이 있는 둘째 아이 때 더 높을 것이다. 본고는 이를 분석하는 것이 목적이다. 분석 결과, 신생아가 11-12월 대비 1-2월에 태어날 확률은 둘째가 맏이보다 3.4% 높고, 12월 대비 1월에 태어날 확률은 둘째가 4.3% 높다. 이는 아이가 연초에 태어나도록 임신 시기를 조절하거나 출산 시기를 조절할 확률이 부모 경험으로 인해 맏이보다 둘째 때 더 큼을 의미한다. When parental experience improves parenting skills, parents are likely to behave in favor of children of higher birth orders. To examine this hypothesis, this study analyzes birth month based on birth order of children in South Korea where parents prefer to have babies in the earlier months of a year. This study finds that while more babies are born in the earlier months, second-born children are more likely to be so than first children. This implies that parental experience makes for better parents.

여성 생식기에서 추출된 과량의 여성 DNA가 남성의 Y-STR DNA형 확보와 남성 DNA 정량값에 미치는 영향

In sexual crime cases, it is difficult to obtain a male short tandem repeat (STR) profile from samples with high concentration of female DNA. In the cases, it is important to obtain Y chromosome STR(Y-STR) profile from the samples in order to solve the cases. Occasionally, intact Y-STR profile is found in samples containing the male DNA less than the minimum detection limit in sexual crime cases. At this point, we wonder whether the quantitative value of male DNA was affected by the high concentration of female DNA. Using two Y-STR kits, Y-STR profiles were examined in the mixed DNA samples of female DNA isolated from vaginal fluid and male standard DNA. It was confirmed that high concentrations of female DNA did not affect the acquisition of Y-STR profile in the mixed DNA samples. However, the female DNA affected the quantitative values of male DNA in the samples. This study is expected to contribute to the reliability of obtaining intact Y-STR profile in mixed DNA samples with concentrations below the minimum detection limit for obtaining the Y-STR profile.
