        한국어(韓國語) 표준화(標準化)와 신어(新語) 형성(形成) 과정(過程)에서 한자어(漢字語)의 위상(位相)과 기능(機能) -국어사전(國語辭典)과 신어(新語)에서의 한자어(漢字語) 비중(比重)을 중심으로-

        본고는 한국어 표준화와 신어 형성 과정이 한자어의 위상과 기능에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 본고는 국어사전 표제어와 신어 형성에서 나타나는 한자어의 비중 변화를 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 한국어의 표준화, 특히 국어사전을 통한 표준화 과정에서 한자어의 비중이 점차 감소하고 있고, 신어 형성 과정에서도 한자어의 비중이 대폭 감소하고 있다. 이러한 변화는 한국어에서 한자어의 위상과 기능을 약화시킬 가능성이 있다. 또한 신어 造語의 측면에서 한자어의 새로운 사용 방식이 매우 활성화되고 있는데, 이러한 변화도 한자어의 위상과 기능에 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라 한자어의 전통적인 사용 방식에도 중요한 변화를 가져올 것으로 예상된다. 한국어의 표준화와 신어형성 과정에서 한자어의 비중이 감소하는 것은 일상생활에서 한자어를 인지하거나 사용하는 경험이 감소하는 것으로 귀결될 수 있다. 이러한 변화는 일상생활에서 한자어가 사용되어야 할 필요성 또는 이유를 제시하지 못한다면, 단지 한자어 교육을 강화하는 것만으로는 그 변화를 되돌리기 어려워 보인다. The study aimed to examine how the process of standardization and formation of neologism in Korean affects the status and function of Sino-Korean words in the proportion of Sino-Korean words in the entries of Korean dictionaries and neologisms. More specifically, this study investigated the change in the proportion of Sino-Korean words in entries of Korean dictionaries and neologisms. The results indicated that the proportion of Sino-Korean words has gradually decreased in the standardization process, especially through the Korean dictionary. Furthermore, the proportion has also decreased considerably in the process of formation of neologisms. These changes are likely to weaken the status and function of Sino-Korean words in Korean. In addition, in terms of the word-formation of neologisms, new ways of using Sino-Korean words are present. Thus, these changes are expected not only to affect the status and function of Sino-Korean words, but also to bring fundamental changes to the traditional way of using them. A decrease in the proportion of Sino-Korean words in the process of standardization and formation of neologism can result in a decrease in the experience of recognizing and using Sino-Korean words in daily life. These changes are difficult to reverse by strengthening Sino-Korean words education unless the necessity or reason for using Sino-Korean words in everyday life is presented.

        한국어 방언과 방언 연구의 변화에 대한 소고

        The purpose of this paper is to examine the changing shape of regional dialect and social dialect in Korea, finally in order to seek the possibility of change and development direction of the Korean dialect researches. Firstly, this paper reviews not only the conceptual difference between regional dialect and social dialect but also the changing shape of actual relation between regional dialect research and social dialect research in Korea. And then, signs of change in Korean dialect research are analyzed by looking at the current state and characteristics of Korean social dialect research. This analysis shows that the distinction between regional dialect research and social dialect research is no longer rigid, and that Korean dialect research needs a new approach and development direction in order to go beyond the earlier researches focused on regional dialect and level of phoneme, prosody, vocabulary, etc. Finally, this paper is concluded by proposing two development directions of Korean dialect research as follows. (1) Research on regional and social difference of Korean language on a level of discourse. (2) Research on aspect of contact among standard language and dialects in Korea.

        제주어와 제주방언, 이름의 정치언어학

        There are many ways which call the vernacular of Jeju island. For example, Jeju dialect, Jejudo dialect, Jeju patois, Tamla language, Jeju language, etc. Recently, the frequency in use of ‘Jeju language’ is on the increase. The purpose of this paper is to examine the change of names which call vernacular of Jeju island and to analyse the reason of this change. First of all, this paper starts with a critical review of the precedent discussions about the concept of language and dialect and their relations. This review enables us to overcome the limitations of the formal linguistic viewpoint about the relations between language and dialect. And then, examining the use aspect of the term ‘Jeju language’ and ‘Jeju dialect’, this paper analyses the concept of ‘Jeju language’ and the reason of this usage. This analysis result facilitates, not only our understanding of extralinguistic strained relations between ‘Jeju language’ and ‘Jeju dialect’, but also a good grasp on significance and problem of using the term ‘Jeju language’ which supplants the term ‘Jeju dialect’.

        인문학으로서의 국어 연구의 대중화ㆍ실용화

        The purpose of this paper is to examine the popularization and the practical application of the Korean language studies and to discuss their relation to language policy. First of all, this paper starts with a brief review of the precedent studies about the so-called crisis of the humanities in which the Korean language studies are included. And then, examining several types of the popularization and the practical application of the humanities to take a countermeasure of the crisis, this paper not only proposes transdisciplinary study and collective intelligence as a strategy of popularization but also argues for the necessity of the indirect application of the humanities to practical use. Finally, reviewing some attempt and possibility of the popularization and the practical application of the Korean language studies, this paper tries a discussion on their relation to some Korean language policy.

        국어생활사 연구의 사회언어학적 요소

        The purpose of this article is to examine the necessity and the possibility of sociolinguistic factors for the study on the life history of the Korean language. First of all, this article looks into the formation process of the concept of `life history of the Korean language` by reviewing the background of its appearance and the transition of its study precedent. Secondly, the subject and the methodology for the study on the life history of the Korean language are clearly founded by referring to the study on the life history in the field of historical science. And then, the matters of common interest and methodology will be found between the study on the life history of the Korean language and the sociolinguistics. Finally, this article is concluded by presenting the sociolinguistic factors which are useful for the study on the life history of the Korean language.

        한국어교육의 발전에 따른 국어관의 변화와 국어 연구의 변화 가능성

        이 연구는 한국어 교육의 확대가 가져온 국어관의 변화와 국어 연구 전반의 변화에 끼친 영향, 그리고 앞으로의 변화 가능성을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 먼저 한국어 교육의 발전은 국어관에 언어사상관만이 아니라 언어도구관이 도입되는 데에 중요한 촉매제 역할을 했으며, 한국어 학습자 및 사용자가 누구인가에 따라 한국어가 갖는 의미도 달라지게 만들었다. 한국어를 바라보는 시각의 이러한 변화는 한국인 모어 화자와는 다른 외국인 학습자의 유형별 특성을 고려하여 한국어 교육의 내용과 방법을 체계적으로 연구하고 개발하는 한국어교육학의 정립과 발전을 요구하고 있다. 그리고 한국어교육학의 성립과 발전은 국어 연구의 분석 단위를 어휘와 문장에서 텍스트와 담화로 확대하고, 국어 연구의 내용을 한국어의 기능과 사용으로 확장하며, 국어 연구의 대상 어체를 한국어의 구어(체)로까지 넓힐 것으로 예상된다. The purpose of this article is to examine the potential for change of view of language and linguistic studies with development of Korean language education. Firstly, development of Korean language education brought not only view of language and thought as an integral whole, but also view of language as tool to view of Korean language. This development made also the variety of meaning of Korean language possible, specially depending on types of Korean language learners and users. So necessary is foundation and development of Korean language education studies which propose educational contents and methods for various Korean language learners. Finally, development of Korean language education will extend unit of analysis(vocabulary and sentence → text and discourse), contents(form and structure → function and use), and style(written language → spoken language) of Korean language studies.

        대학교수 간 호칭어 사용 변이에 대한 질적 연구 - 사회언어학적 변이 연구의 양적 접근을 넘어서 -

        본고는 대학교수 간 호칭어 사용 변이의 이유와 의미를 사회언어학적 질적 연구를 통해 이해하고 설명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본고가 질적연구를 통해 발견한 이유와 의미는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학교수 간에 특정 호칭어를 사용하는 가장 기본적이고 표면적인 이유는 소속 공동체에서의 경험과 관습에 있다. 둘째, ‘교수님’과 ‘선생님’의 사용에서는 특정 호칭에 대한 나름의 가치 부여와 합리화의 모습이 나타난다. 셋째, ‘박사(님)’의 사용은 대학교수 간 위계 또는 관계를 뚜렷하게 표현한다. 넷째, ‘샘/쌤’의 사용은 아직 매우 드물고 상호적 사용에 대해 일종의 부담감 또는 거부감도 존재한다. 다섯째, 보직교수에 대해서는 보직명호칭어를 사용하는 것이 더 격식적이고 존중하는 의미가 있다고 생각한다. 본고는 사회언어학적 변이에 대한 양적 연구에서 부족한 부분을 추가적인 질적 연구로 보완하는 하나의 연구 사례를 제시한다는 점에서도 의의가 있다. The purpose of this paper is to understand and explain the reasons behind and meanings of the variations in the terms of address used between university professors through qualitative sociolinguistic research. This qualitative study found the following reasons and meanings. First, the most basic and ostensible reason for the use of certain address terms between university professors lies in the experience and customs of their community. Second, the use of “professor” (교수님) or “teacher” (선생님) shows the valuation and rationalization behind particular terms of address. Third, the use of “doctor” (박사(님)) clearly expresses the hierarchical relationships between university professors. Fourth, the use of “sam” (a familiar form of teacher, 샘/쌤) was rare, likely due to a kind of pressure or repulsion from its use. Fifth, it is more formal and respectful to call professors in administrative positions by their administrative title. This study was significant in that it supplemented the deficiencies in quantitative research with qualitative research about sociolinguistic variations.

        언어와 이데올로기 연구의 쟁점과 접근 방식

        The purpose of this paper is to analyze systematically the issues and approaches of existing research on language and ideology. In order to accomplish this purpose, this paper first defines ideology as ‘the ideas, beliefs, and values and the material process of (re)producing them that contribute to promoting and legitimizing the sectoral interests of certain social group or power’, noting that such ideology causes social problems when it serves primarily the sectoral interests of a mainstream group or ruling power, often working in a false and deceptive form through distortion and dissimulation of objective reality. Then, this paper raises the necessity to divide the research into two types: the research on ideology ‘about’ language and the research on ideology ‘through’ language. Finally, based on the theoretical discussion above, this paper explores the sociolinguistic research tasks and prospects of research on language and ideology by analyzing the representative research cases and approaches related to Korean language and its usage. This paper particularly focuses on monolingualism and standard language ideology in the case and approach of the research on ideology ‘about’ language, and sexism and gender ideology in the case and approach of the research on ideology ‘through’ language.

      • 다문화 가정 자녀에게 한국어가 갖는 의미

        The purpose of this article is to examine the meaning of Korean Language for children of multicultural families, finally in order to propose the prospects of Korean language education for them, specially for migrant children of international marriage families. Firstly, this article classifies and characterizes children types of multicultural families, such as domestically born children of international marriage families, migrant children of international marriage families, children of foreign families, children of North Korean refugees families, children of homecoming families from abroad. And then, the meaning of Korean language for each type is investigated by virtue of comparison between the concepts of mother tongue, foreign language, second language and heritage language. Finally, this article is concluded by laying stress on specialization of Korean language education curriculum for children of multicultural families in accordance with characteristics of each type, specially of migrant children of international marriage families.
