The researcher intended to investigate the rate of absenteeism and other related statistics among the workers in a steel and iron industry with the criteria and the recommendation of the International Association on Occupational Health. With the well designed questionaire and interview, 1,882 workers were surveyed from July the 24th to the 28th, 1978. The results were as follows; The workers who experienced absence were 16.8% in July. The rate of frequency (spells) was 3.24, the duration was 4.65, the frequency (persons) was 345.20, and the lost time was 1.27. 41.0% among the absentee experienced sickness absences and the rates of sickness absence were as follow; the frequency (spells) nab 1.34, the duration was 2.29, the frequency (persons) was 101.06 and the lost time was 0.63, respectively. The main causes of sickness absence were general symptoms, such as fatigue (50.8%) and gastro-intestinal symptoms (13.8%). The frequency of sickness was highly correlated to the frequency of drinking, the amount of smoking, the physical work-load and the amount of drinking, which was analysed by the stepwize multiple regrssion analysis. The multiple R due to the above mentioned four variables was 0.320 and the R square was 10.3%.

The objective of the study is to find ways to foster marketing firm-in-common as agricultural produce shippers that can adequately respond to various requests from the consumer market. The concept of marketing firm-in-common is newly introduced in the Agricultural Cooperative Act, which was revised to cope with the evolving marketing environment in 2005. In the study, we examined a development plan of share marketing cooperative firm so that marketing function of cooperatives can be transformed into more market oriented marketing business that can create value-added. Like other countries in the OECD, Korean farmers are experiencing market changes that are mainly driven by consumers. Consumption patterns are shifting to care more about food safety and quality rather than just price. As the market powers of a handful big hypermarket chains are growing with their market shares, small retailers as well as wholesalers and the wholesale market have been shrinking. Recently, the competition among hypermarket chains is getting fierce as more stores from different chains are vying for market share in a given area. Transaction patterns to link producers with consumers have been evolving from the traditional method of auctioning to direct transactions preferred by big hypermarket chains. In this circumstance, producers need to adapt themselves to the demands of big retailers, the request of large volume supply in a steady quality all the year round. Because of the high competition among retailers and changes in consumer preference, producers also need to make their products be differentiated from other products. On top of this, the market opening from trade negotiations brought more imported agricultural products at lower prices. New organizations in charge of produce shipping have shown to actively correspond to the request of consumer market. However, joint alliance or integrated cooperatives at regional level have shown their limitations in terms of specialization, enterprising, and the speed of business adjustment. Hence, marketing firm-in-common was introduced to overcome the limitations and take charge of business activities that are difficult for a individual regional cooperative to fulfill. In the study, we identified the followings: First, we established the vision and status of marketing firms in common, differentiating them with cooperatives mergers and subsidiaries. Second, after grasping the obstacle to the development of cooperatives, we proposed an institutional and legal foundation on which marketing firm-in-common can be revitalized. Third, we suggested ideal relationships of marketing firm-in-common with farmers, primary cooperatives, and the NACF.

We reviewed the records of randomly selected 320 diabetic out-patients at Eul-ji Hospital from April 1981 through March 1983. Fasting blood sugar (FBS) of 140 mg/dl or more was taken as a criteria of diabetes according to the report of National Diabetes Data Group. The results are as follows : 1. Mean age of study group was 50.8 years-old and the FBS mean value was 222.4 mg/dl. 2. There was no significant difference of FBS values of tuberculosis and non-tuberculosis patients. 3. Prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis evaluated by chest films 13.4 percent in diabetes patients. This value is lower than those of other studies but higher than that of urban population in Korea (p < 0.05).

Determination of Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb, and Zn concentrations in coal and respirable coal dust were performed by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The coal samples of 18 coal mines in Gangneung area were collected and 25 coal mines in Taebaek area. Crushed coal samples were divided into three mesh sizes. The results were as follows : 1. Metal concentrations of coals in Gangneung area by sieve sizes(-100/+200 mesh, -200/+325 mesh, -325 mesh) were as follows : Cu ; 20, 18, 19, Fe ; 1,830, 1,765, 1,107, Pb ; 6, 8, 14, Ni ; 17, 1.7, 14, Zn ; 4, 2, 4 ㎍/g, respectively. Metal concentrations in coals in Taebaek area by sieve sizes(-100/+200 mesh, -200/ +325 mesh, -325 mesh) were as follows : Cu ; 30, 32, 26, Fe ; 1,741, 1,822, 1,773, Pb ; 8, 9, 7, Ni ; 13, 13, 13, Zn ; 8, 5, 4 ㎍/g, respectively. There were not significant differences of Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb, and Zn concentrations of coals statistically in Gangneung and Taebaek area by sieve size. 2. Metal concentrations of coals in Gangneung and Taeback area were as follows : Cu ; 19, 30, Fe ; 1,514, 1,778, Pb ; 9, 8, Ni ; 16, 13, Zn ; 3, 6 ㎍/g, respectively. Differences of copper and zinc concentrations of coal samples were significant between Gangneung and Taebaek area, but those of iron, nickel and lead concentrations were not significant. 3. Copper, iron, lead, nickel and zinc concentrations of coals and respirable coal dust were as follows : Cu ; 30, 6, Fe ; 1,779, 5,075, Pb ; 8, 7,814, Ni ; 13, 5,681, Zn ; 5, 134 ㎍/g, respectively. Differences of nickel, lead and zinc concentrations were significant between coals and respirable coal dust, but those of copper and iron concentrations were not significant.

Serum immunoglobulin(Ig)A, IgG, IgM, levels were measured in 99 coal workers' pneumoconiosis (CWP) patients and 12 healthy coal workers and 9 non-miners to compare with each group by the radiological categories, its complications and working period in coal mine. Serum were measured by nephelometry, The findings were as follows: 1) Serum IgA levels were significantly different between three groups of CWP patient, healthy coal worker and non-miner ($mean{\pm}standard$ deviation: $226.4{\pm}87.7,\;221.3{\pm}45.1,\;170.1{\pm}65.7$ respectively). 2) There were no significant differences of Ig levels among radiological categories of CWP. 3) There were no significant differences of Ig levels among simple pneumoconiosis and its complicated disorders. 4) The three Ig levels were slightly increased in the group of mining years less than 20 years (IgA: r=0.1869, p<0.10 IgG: r=0.2902, p<0.05 IgM: r=0.2889, p<0.05).
