        유기적 전체의 지향

        Deep Ecology presents two main fulcrums: biocentric equality and Self-realization. Of all poets, Robinson Jeffers called inhumanist and Gary Snyder who is called posthumanist are the two main representatives as ecological poets and thinkers, but one more important thing is here in their lifestyles. Jeffers’s Tor House and Hawk Tower in Carmel was built by his hands, same as of Snyder’s Kitkitdizze in Sierra Nevada. Their poetry, own ecoconsciousness and also lifestyle present itself as an Organic whole. Of all their works, Jeffers’s “The Answer” and Snyder’s “Ripples on the Surface” could be selected their essence showing the organic whole, especially, is directly used in Jeffers’ “The Answer”, also in “Ripples in the Surface”. Snyder exaggerates a ‘performance’, which means transformation for a perspective habitat on earth. Jeffers addressed himself to cosmic themes in his poems, including civilization, nature creatures, beauty, universe, and whole. Also he had his own sharp perception of intimate details and entities. For more four decades, Jeffers, obviously, had his preview gift and lived in his Tor House by the Pacific Ocean for the last of the lifetime, as a part of nature in the universe. In his habitat, almost his writings created. Little acknowledged, his poems are a kind of narratives for the greatest biocentric equality. About a half century, Snyder, too, has attempted to transform problems we have faced. His ecological thoughts and ecoconsciousness have been affected by a predecessor poet Jeffers and significantly they have shared the ideal thoughts. Some critics including Robert Zaller, Patrick D. Murphy and Peter Quigley found and acknowledged these two poets’ role in the rising of deep ecology and environmentalism. In this environmental crisis, these two ecological poets shared their ecoconsciousness and had their own habitat in the west of America, showing the practice in the wild with in their poetry and practice as an organic whole for our sustainable earth.

        관상동맥 중재술을 받은 급성 심근경색증 환자에서 체질량 지수의 영향

        목적: 비만은 관상동맥 질환의 위험인자로 알려져 있으나, 급성 심근경색증 환자에서 비만이 미치는 영향이나 관상동맥 중재술 후 장기 예후에 대한 영향은 잘 알려져 있지 않다. 본 연구를 통해 급성 심근경색증 환자에서 비만이 미치는 영향과 관상동맥 중재술 후 장기 예후에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 방법: 2002년 2월 1일부터 2006년 6월 30일까지 전남대학교 심장센터에서 급성 심근경색증으로 진단되어 관상동맥 중재술을 시행한 309예(60.5±11.3세, 남:여=243:66)를 대상으로 하였다. 체질량 지수가 25 kg/m2미만인 194예의 환자를 I 군(61.7±11.1세, 남:여=151:43), 체질량 지수가 25 kg/m2 이상인 115예의 환자를 II 군(58.6±11.5세, 남:여=92:23)으로 하여 두 군 간의 임상적 특성이나 위험인자들을 비교하였고, 6개월간 추적 경과관찰 동안 발생한 주요 심장 사건을 분석하였다. 결과: I 군에서 II 군에 비하여 나이가 많았고(61.7±11.1세 vs. 58.6±11.5세, p=0.017), II 군에서 고혈압(59/115 vs. 75/194예, p=0.033)과 고지혈증(60/115 vs. 75/194예, p=0.024)의 빈도가 높았다. 고지혈증의 경우 II 군이 I 군에 비해 혈중 총 콜레스테롤(201.4±42.6 mg/dL vs. 184.3±39.9 mg/dL, p=0.001), 중성지방(147.1±96.2 mg/dL vs. 121.2±61.6 mg/dL, p=0.005), 저밀도 콜레스테롤(134.1±37.8 mg/dL vs. 120.3±35.1 mg/dL, p=0.002)이 높았으나, 고밀도 콜레스테롤(42.3±10.2 mg/dL vs. 44.5±12.1mg/dL, p=0.109)은 차이가 없었다. 관상동맥 조영술이나 중재술과 연관된 인자는 두 군에서 차이가 없었다. 178예(I 군 109예, II 군 69예)의 환자에서 6개월 추적 관상동맥 조영술이 시행되었다. 재협착은 I 군에서 14예(12.8%), II 군에서 18예(26.1%)가 발생하여 II 군이 I 군에 비해 재협착율이 유의하게 높았다(p=0.025). 결론: 비만을 동반한 급성 심근경색증 환자에서는 고지혈증과 고혈압이 동반되는 경우가 많았으며, 관상동맥 중재술 후 재협착이 유의하게 많이 발생함을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 비만에 대한 적극적인 치료가 심근경색증 환자에서 중재술 후 재협착 예방에 중요할 것으로 생각되었다. Background: Obesity is one of the major risk factors for coronary artery disease. However, the long-term clinical effects of obesity after percutaneus coronary intervention (PCI) in Korean patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) have not been sufficiently evaluated. Methods: A total of 309 patients (mean age 60.5±11.3 years, M:F=243:66) that underwent PCI with a diagnosis of AMI between February 2002 and June 2006. Thepatients were divided into two groups according to the body mass index (BMI): group I (n=194; BMI<25 kg/m2; mean age 61.7±11.1 years, M:F=151:43) and group II (n=115; BMI≥25 kg/m2, mean age 58.2±11.3 years, M:F=92:23). Clinical characteristics and risk factors, and major adverse cardiac events during a six-month follow-up were compared between patients in the two gropus. Results: The mean age of group I patients was older than that of group II patients (61.7±11.1 years vs. 58.6±11.5 years, p=0.017). The prevalence of hypertension was higher in group II patients (75/194, 38.7% vs.59/115, 51.3%, p=0.033) and hyperlipidemia was more prevalent in group II patients (75/194, 38.7% vs. 60/115, 52.2%, p=0.024). The levels of total cholesterol (184.3±39.9 mg/dL vs. 201.4±42.6 mg/dL, p=0.001), triglycerides (121.2±61.6 mg/dL vs. 147.1±96.2 mg/dL, p=0.005), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (120.3±35.1 mg/dL vs. 134.1±37.8 mg/dL, p=0.002) were lower in group I patients than in group II patients. The restenosis rate on a follow-up coronary angiogram was higher in group II patients (18/69, 26.1%) than in group I patients (14/109, 12.8%, p=0.025). Conclusions: Obesity is associated with hyperlipidemia and hypertension in patients with AMI. The restenosis rate after PCI was higher in obese AMI patients. (Korean J Med 73:603-610, 2007)

        생태적 회복을 향한 실천으로서의 불복종-소로, 애비, 스나이더의 경우

        The point of view in this paper is finding and confirming the different types of ecological disobedience in Thoreau, Edward Abbey, an American writer called as American anarchist, and Gary Snyder, the poet and ecological thinker, exploring their works and lifestyles in terms of practical examples in Deep Ecology. Thoreau left his one-day-experience on his well-known essay, Civil Disobedience, and now it becomes a famous work with his Walden acknowledged even as a canon in Transcendentalism. Civil Disobedience could be included as an another chapter of Walden working as an practice for environmentalism. Abbey`s The Monkey Wrench Gang and Desert Solitaire are based on facts with fiction, to a certain extent, and he used straight ways in styles, plots and characterization to illustrate the environmental problems directly and provocatively, which also could be regarded as an organic environmental practice. No Nature and Turtle Island are two main symbols of Snyder who lives in the wilderness of Nevada pursues. Snyder shows us his suggestion for coexistence of rehabilitation in this ecological crisis, using another way of resistance throughout his whole lifetime. With their similarities, those three types of ecological practice can be considered as significant examples for seeking awareness of individuals. Also, differently, we observe the development of ecological disobediences in works, lifestyles of Thoreau, Abbey and Snyder.

        연구논문 : 왜 심층생태주의인가: 생태비평의 세 가지 근본주의 생태론 고찰

        생태계의 조화와 균형을 지향한다는 점에서 가장 열린 비평으로 인식되는 생태비평은 심층생태주의를 중심으로 한 근본주의 생태론 사이의 논쟁 속에서 그 대안을 찾지 못해 왔다. 인간, 자연, 인류의 운명에 대한 통합적인 성찰과 적극적인 실천의 움직임이 필요한 상황에서, 근본주의 생태론의 각 유형들 사이의 한계를 살펴보고 조화와 공생을 향한 비전을 모색할 수 있다면, 환경 위기를 극복하기 위한 인문학의 역할을 기대할 수 있을 것이다. 본 논문은 생태적 회복과 조화를 위해 무엇이 중요한가라는 질문에 대하여 심층생태주의자들의 대답은 ‘변화와 실천’일 것이라는 점에 착안하였다. 근본주의 생태론의 제 논의들은 앞으로도 변화하고 실천할 수 있는 방안을 찾아나갈 것이라는 점에서 환경적 인지와 의식의 변화를 위한 인문학적 방법론이 될 수 있을 것이다. In the late twentieth century has appeared essential eco-theories in an effort to deal with the ecological problems. Of them are Deep Ecology, Social Ecology, and Ecofeminism. This paper is to explore the basic theory of these three, and compare their main ideas to find a way to recover present ecological crisis in the eco-critical view. Deep ecology makes an attempt to overcome environmental crisis we have faced. Unlike Deep Ecology, Social Ecology put emphasis on the role of human reason can help restore the destroyed ecosystem. Ecofeminist argues that man-centered history and the human``s dominance over nature and animal go together, also, the long lasted sexual discrimination caused this ecological problems. Additionally, pragmatism has emerged a new way of solution with post-structure. Yet there is no perfect solution. They have differences in specific, though, basically the main ideas forward finding ecological ways are almost same. In Deep Ecology, we can realize their purposes: Self-realization and biocentric equality have possibilities for harmony and ecological habitat between human and nature.

        칼납자루, Acheilognathus koreensis의 생식에 미치는 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)의 영향

        본 연구는 PCBs가 칼납자루의 생식에 미치는 영향을 조직학적인 방법을 사용하여 조사하였다. 0, 3.4, 9.3 그리고 25.8 μg L^(-1)의 PCBs에 8주 동안 노출 실험한 결과, PCBs에 의한 행동과 생존율에는 영향을 미치지 않았다. 대조구와 비교해볼 때 PCBs에 노출된 어류들은 생식소발달, 생식소중량지수(GSI), 간중량지수(HSI), 혼인색지수(NCI) 및 산란관지수(OLI)의 차이를 보였다. 이러한 결과는 PCBs가 이들 어류의 정상적인 생식소 발달 과정을 방해하는 것을 보여준다. The effects of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) on the reproduction of the oily bitterling, Acheilognathus koreensis were investigated using histological methods. The experimental fishes were exposed to 0, 3.4, 9.3 and 25.8 μg L^(-1) PCBs for 8 weeks. Dead fishes and abnormal behavior were not observed in control and PCBs exposure group. In compared with control group, PCBs exposure fishes showed differences of gonadal development, gonadosomatic index (GSI), hepatosomatic index (HSI), nuptial color index (NCI) and ovipositor length index (OLI). These results showed that PCBs could disrupt reproductive process in the fish.

        적콜라비싹추출물의 항산화, 항염 및 미백 효과

        This study is for evaluating red kohlrabi (Brassica oleracea var. gongylodes) sprouts as cosmetic ingredient. The sprouts were grown under different light conditions: white, red, blue and dark. We examined biological activities of sprouts extracts to reveal anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and skin-brightening effects. In DPPH radical scavenging assay, sprouts grown under the white light showed the best performance, demonstrating the optimized cultivation of raw materials. In melanin synthesis inhibition assays, red kohlrabi sprouts extracts showed concentration-dependent activity, suggesting skin whitening efficacy as a cosmetic ingredient. More interestingly, the extracts showed significantly high activities of NO suppression in macrophages, which is implicated in anti-inflammatory agents of both cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Decrease of NO synthesis was up to 80% in our tests, and we subsequently elucidated that TNF-α is reduced by the extracts, leading to the reduction of NO. Light conditions did not seem to modulate skin whitening and anti-inflammatory efficacies, but we could conclude that white light is the best condition given that antioxidant activity was significantly better than the other 3 conditions. With these results, we uncovered the beneficial effects of red kohlrabi sprouts extracts as a cosmetic ingredient, and demonstrated that plant factory system with different light conditions can serve to supply industry-optimized raw materials.

      • 유기질 문화재 복원재료의 재질안정성에 대한 연구

        Hanji among paper, which is material for support of the organic artifact such as painting and Thangkas, is given as much importance as the original material in the conservation treatment of artifacts. This lining paper can go through physical and chemical deterioration due to its organic nature, and inflict serious damage to the original materials of the artifact. There is a lot of difficulty in keeping continuous production of the paper mulberry fiber based on lining paper due to a short supply of raw material and discontinuation of traditional method. Also restoration and conservation treatment is done by relying only on the knowledge and skill of few experts without any recognized manual based on scientific analysis. In this study, we evaluated the stability of lining paper which is used to support organic artifact. As the result of experiments, this lining paper was made from mulberry tree in Korea and produced by means of oebal method, but was not treated by starch in its surface.
