A 7-month-old 8.2 kg female Siberian Husky with history of exercise intolerance, delayed growth, and tachypnea was presented to Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Kyungpook National University. A holosystolic murmur was identified in cardiac ausculation. In electrocardiography, thoracic radiographs, and ultrasonography, a right axis deviation, enlarged right ventricle, stenotic main pulmonary artery, large ventricular septal defect, marked right ventricle hypertrophy, and overriding aorta with dilation were identified. The color Doppler examination showed the left-to-right shunting of blood via interventricular septal defect and the blood flow streams converging from the right and left ventricles into the aorta. The dog was diagnosed as tetralogy of Fallot. The current state of the dog is well-tolerated without any specific medication.

This study was aimed for ultrasonographic assessment of the tympanic membrane and the tympanic bulla in five healthy Beagle dogs. To improve an ultrasonographic image, the ear canal was filled with warm saline, and an 11MHz linear probe and a 6.5MHz convex probe were used. The structures of ear component such as ear canal, ear cartilage and tympanic membrane were easily identified. Especially, tympanic membrane was presented as a reflaction surface which was resulted from the different acoustic impedence between the fluid-filled anechoic ear canal and the gas-filled hyperechoic tympanic cavity in normal dogs. In five left-side ears, the saline was infused into the external ear canal after the tympanic membrane had been ruptured experimentally. Both anechoic fluid-filled ear canal and tympanic cavity were clearly identified. In five right-side ears, the surgically fluid-filled tympanic cavity was imaged as a hypoechoic oval shaped structure. When tympanic cavity and ear canal have been contained with fluid, it was difficult to identify whether the tympanic membrane was ruptured or not. For assessment of the ear structure with ultrasonography, the 11 MHz linear probe was considered as an optimal equipment for a serial assessment of ear canal, tympanic membrane and tympanic bulla whereas the 6.5MHz convex probe was suitable to assess the tympanic cavity. The results suggest that ultrasonography with saline infusion into the ear canal can be used to find the intactness of the tympanic membrane and to assess the fluid-filld tympanic bulla.

This study was to determine the procedure for ultrasonographic imaging of the canine external ear canal(ECC). By infusion of warm saline solution into the ear canal, a real-time B mode ultrasonographic examination of the ECC was performed in five healthy Beagle dogs and two dogs with severe otitis externa. The ultrasonography was very useful to detect the structures of the ECC and the tympanic membrane. An 11 MHz linear probe was permitted to assess an anechoic lumen of the ECC and a hyperechoic cartilage surrounding the ear canal. In two dogs with otitis externa, it could be assessed the ECC with ultrasonography without ear cleansing. A lumen of the ECC was irregular and a cerumen could be seen, but edematous inflammatory changes of the ECC could not be identified. The results suggest that ultrasonography of the ECC with an 11 MHz linear probe after infusing the saline solution into the ear canal may be an accurate, non-invasive, rapid, and widely available method for assessment of the ear canal diseases such as otitis externa, polyp, stenosis, hyperplasia, and foreign body in dogs.

For the study of the hemodynamic changes of the cranial pancreaticoduodenal arterial flow(cPDAF) in the dog with acute pancreatitis, acute pancreatitis was experimentally induced in 10 dogs by the injection of oleic acid into the accessory pancreatic duct. The parameters of cPDAF were measured by transcutaneous pulsed-wave Doppler ultrasonography. The hemodynamic changes included resistive indexe(RI), pulsatility index(PI) and maximum velocity (Vmax). Ultrasonographic scans were performed before the induction of pancreatitis and once daily for five days after the induction. The RI, PI and Vmax were increased with day as follows; the RI prior to induction was 0.625$\pm$0.096 (mean$\pm$SD), the PI was 1.117$\pm$0.289 and the Vmax was 0.349$\pm$0.094 m/s. After five days, the RI was 0.727$\pm$0.051 (p<0.0l), the PI was 1.480$\pm$0.284 (p<0.0l) and the Vmax was 0.585:$\pm$0.114 m/s (p<0.00l). These results show that there is some relation between the increase of the RI, PI and Vmax of cPDAF and the progress of acute pancreatitis in dogs. Therefore, the measurements of the hemodynamic changes of cPDAF may be a valuable technique for the evaluation of acute pancreatitis in dogs.

One hundred thirty seven patients with pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis who visited Konkuk University Hospital between July 1996 and July 2002, were treated with isoniazid, rifampin, ethambutol, and pyrazinamide. Among these patients, ten patients had underlying diabetes mellitus, and three HB viral hepatitis. Their medical chart were reviewed retrospectively to evaluate the adverse effects of anti -tuberculous medication. The major side effects of patients are gastrointestinal intolerance(26.4%) and hepatotoxicity(25.3%). Minor side effects are itching sensation, fever, skin eruption, myalgia, arthlagia, and other hypersensitivity reaction. We evaluated the onset, duration, and management of side effect during TB medication according to underlying diseases
