EFL Students’ Shadow-reading and Written Retelling: A Sociocultural Approach
이인환,허명혜 한국응용언어학회 2014 응용 언어학 Vol.30 No.3
This study explores EFL reading from a sociocultural perspective and attempts to discover more about the benefits of collaborative reading activities. Since this study adopts EFL reading as a social interactive process, shadow-reading was selected for analysis. The study was conducted on 60 EFL college students, 6 males and 54 females. Based on their TOEIC scores, the participants were divided into a shadow-reading group (n = 30) and a silent reading group (n = 30). An independent t–test was conducted to compare reading comprehension and retention between the two groups. In addition to the effect of shadow-reading was investigated whether language proficiency is also a variable affecting comprehension and retention and whether language proficiency and shadow-reading treatment have significant interaction effects through the use of two-way ANOVA, performed in SPSS version 21. Qualitative analysis of the data traced the evidence of how EFL learners could achieve together what they could not have achieved alone. The findings indicated that students in the shadow-reading group outperformed those in the silent reading group, not only in comprehension but also in retention. The study also revealed how EFL learners strategically employ moment-by-moment assisted guidance to resolve language related problems and idea related difficulties in text.

This research is basically for developing the ways to evaluate fencing trainers effectively and eventually for making fencing a more publicly available sport. This will be done by providing lesson plans and evaluation through drafting trainers, dividing by technical level and training plan and by preparing specific and objective standards by which each trainer will be screened. The objects are 45 members who took the fencing lessons in “Kosmo Fencing Club” from 2005 to 2010. Through the use of evaluation and screening standards during matches which were developed based on accuracy, physical strength, professional skills and game competence. I have come to the following conclusion: First, we need diverse evaluation methods for fostering more capable trainers. Second, we need to focus on setting up better facilities. Finally, we should make access to fencing easier without any prejudice and eventually contribute to making fencing a more publically accessible sport.
Photoluminescence Properties of ZnO Thin Films Grown by Using the Hydrothermal Technique

The photoluminescence properties of zinc-oxide thin films grown by using the hydrothermal technique have been investigated. Zinc-oxide thin films with a wurtzite symmetry and c-axis orientation were grown in aqueous solution at 90 ℃ on sapphire substrates with a p-GaN buffer layer by using the hydrothermal technique. The low-temperature photoluminescence analysis revealed a sharp bound-exciton-related luminescence peak at 3.366 eV with a very narrow peak width. The temperature-dependent variations of the emission energy and of the integrated intensity were studied. The activation energy of the bound exciton complex was calculated to be 7.35 ± 0.5 meV from the temperature dependent quenching of the integral intensities.

The hyalinized zone in compressed periodontal ligament seems to be an unaviodable aspect during certain phases of orthodontically produced tooth movement. And these hyalinized zones leads to a standstill of tooth movement. But when hyalinzed zones disappears after a certain period of time and tooth movement is established. In the basic aspect of clincial science of orthodontics, it is very important, to study about the process involved and to establish whether a difference of periodontal response by the amount of the applied experimental force exists. The 35 Guineapigs were divided into the control group (5 animals) and the experimental group (Group Ⅰ-Group Ⅵ 30 animals). The experimental tooth movement of Guineapig's maxillary incisors were carried out by rendering continuous force, 5g (Group Ⅰ, Group Ⅱ) 35g(Group Ⅲ, Group Ⅳ), 100g (Group Ⅴ, Group Ⅵ) respectively. 15 animals (Group Ⅰ, Group Ⅲ, Group Ⅴ) were sacrificed one week after this experiment. Another 15 animals (Group Ⅱ, Group Ⅳ, Group Ⅵ) were sacrificed one week after the removal of active appliences. At the end of the experimental periods, specimens containing tooth and adjacent periodontal structure were obtained and processed for light and electron microscopy. The results were as follows: 1. In Group Ⅰ, cellualr changes of pressured zones showed swollen mitochondria, dilation of rough surfaced endoplasmic reticulum (RER), vesicles and pyknosis of nucleus. 2. In Group Ⅲ and Group Ⅴ, the hyalinized tissues showed cell necrosis accompaning ruptures of cytoplasmic membrrane and perinuclear envelope, large cytoplasmic vacuoles and many necrotic cell debris. 3. In Group Ⅳ and Group Ⅵ, hyalinized tissue were eliminated and the primitive mesenchmal cells and blood capillaries were proliferated. 4. In group Ⅴ, the destruction of the collagenous fibers were observed, while in group Ⅰ and group Ⅲ were not observed. 5. In Group Ⅳ and Group Ⅵ, the hyalinized zones were still remained partly.
