        3층 철근콘크리트 전단벽 구조물의 지진응답해석

        A shake table test is conducted for the three-story reinforced concrete building structure using 0.28 g, 0.5 g, 0.75 g, and 1.0 g of seismic input motions based on the Gyeongju earthquake. Computational efforts are made in parallel to explore the mechanical details in the structure. For engineering practice, the elastic modulus of concrete and rebar in the dynamic analysis is reduced to 38% and 50%, respectively, to calibrate the structure's natural frequencies. The engineering approach to the reduced modulus of elasticity is believed to be due to the inability to specify the flexibility of the actual boundary conditions. This aspect may lead to disadvantages of nonlinear dynamic analysis that can distort local stress and strain relationships. The initial elastic modulus can be applied directly without the so-called engineering adjustment with infinite element models with spring and spring-dashpot boundary conditions. This has the advantage of imposing the system flexibility of the structure on the sub-boundary conditions of springs and damping devices to control its sensitivity in a serial arrangement. This can reflect the flexibility of realistic boundary conditions and the effects of system damping (such as the gap between a concrete footing and shake table, loosening of steel anchors, etc.) in scalar quantities. However, these spring and dashpot coefficients can only be coordinated based on experimental results, making it challenging to select the coefficients in-prior to perform an experimental test.

        석유피치 재활용 탄소섬유를 혼입한 모르타르의 인장 특성

        피치계 탄소섬유를 함유한 모르타르의 직접인장강도는 평균압축강도의 1/27~1/22에 해당하였다. 동일 양의 PAN계 탄소섬유를 함유한 모르타르의 직접인장강도가 1/15임에 비하여, 낮은 수준으로 나타났다. 이 때, 무보강 기준시편의 직접인장강도는 1/29 수준이었다. 피치계 탄소섬유를 함유한 모르타르의 휨인장강도는 평균압축강도에 비해, 약 1/12 수준으로 나타났고, PAN계 탄소섬유를 함유한 모르타르와 무보강 모르타르는 각각 1/10, 1/13.5의 수준으로 나타났다. 피치계 탄소섬유를 혼입한 모르타르의 인장성능은 무보강 모르타르와 PAN계 탄소섬유를 혼입한 모르타르의 중간 수준으로 나타났다. The direct tensile strength of the mortar specimen containing pitch-based carbon fiber was ranged between 1/27~1/22 as compared to the average compressive strength of mortar. It was found that the direct tensile strength of the mortar containing the same amount of PAN-based carbon fiber was around 1/15. While the case of the control specimen without the carbon fiber was around 1/29. One the other hands, the flexural tensile strength of the mortar containing pitch-based carbon fibers was about 1/12 as compared to the average compressive strength. In case of the mortar specimen with PAN-based carbon fiber and control mortar were 1/10 and 1/13.5, respectively. The tensile performance of the mortar with pitch-based carbon fiber was found to be intermediate between control mortar and the reinforced mortar incorporated with the PAN-based carbon fiber.

        Always acutely conscious of the impelling forces behind human life, O`Neill tried to dramatize in his works the eternal tragedy of man in his self-destructive struggle and failure against the forces. This paper aims to make a critical investigation into Long Day`s Journey into Night to clarify O`Neill`s tragic view of life controlled by the inscrutable forces. As an epilogue to the entire world of O`Neill`s plays, Long Day`s Journey into Night is a tragedy of a family whose four members-father, mother, and two sons-struggle in vain against their painful situations in life, which are quite substantially based on O`Neill`s own agonizing past life. Mary, mother, fails to overcome her drug addiction and falls into madness without showing any possibility of hope for the future. James, father, tries to justify his stingy nature, which was the decisive cause of his wife`s use of morphine. But his stinginess only makes him fail to face the reality of his family`s painful conditions. James, elder son, tries to forget his failure and guilt through alcohol and woman, but he is also given no way out of the hopeless reality. What Edmund, younger son, faces at the end of the drama is a benumbing fate to endlessly continue to witness his family`s despair and agony. Each of the Tyrone family members seeks some comfort from fog, drug, memory, or pipe dream. But the comfort is just momentary and they always have to come back to their hopeless reality. As piteous victims of the cruel uncontrollable forces behind life, they have to incessantly face the bottomless abyss of despair before them and continue to live the hopeless condition of living death. They are even denied the ultimate solace of death. O`Neill`s honest confrontation with this tragic nature of human existence is what makes Long Day`s Journey into Night a great literary work, which was created by Nietzschean affirmation of life and pity for man.

        『위대한 유산』의 ‘신사’ 주제 재론

        Despite its admitted importance as a central theme in Great Expectations, the theme of ‘gentleman' has not received enough critical attention based on a detailed analysis of the novel. This paper offers a concrete re-examination on how Dickens deals with the theme of ‘gentleman' in Great Expectations. Most critics start their discussion on the theme of ‘gentleman' from Pip's declaration that he wants to be a gentleman, but the theme of gentleman is established in Pip's narrative as early as in chapter 5. Magwitch's words about Compeyson, “He's a gentleman, if you please, this villain.” succinctly but impressively registers the whole spectrum of the ‘gentleman' theme, by its epistemological paradox equating the two seemingly contrary appellations, ‘gentleman' and ‘villain.' Three definitions of the word ‘gentleman' are explored in Pip's life-story: gentleman as a social status, gentleman as a moral ideal, and gentleman as a villain. From the first moment of his great expectations, Pip starts to show a snob's progress, moving down toward the worst form of a gentleman: a gentleman-villain. Thanks to his moral sensibility being still alive, however, he stops his fall and starts a painful process of regeneration, triggered by the unexpected visit of his secret benefactor. After losing all his expectations and going through severe ordeals, Pip finally recovers his lost human nature to achieve a moral growth as a respectable human being. Pip's final social status as a prosperous businessman is that of a gentleman, but this does not mean the novel's ultimate goal is posing Pip as an ideal gentleman. On the contrary, Pip completely gives up the dream of being a gentleman at the end of the novel. His calling Joe Gargery a “gentle Christian man,” by dissecting the word ‘gentleman' into its elemental words, dramatically demonstrates that Dickens's intention in this novel is not to give his own definition of ‘a true gentleman,' but to deconstruct and destroy the ideal of a gentleman itself.

        벤담의 파놉티콘과 근대 계몽주의 기획

        벤담(Jeremy Bentham)은 파놉티콘 기획을 통해 18세기 계몽주의자들이 형법개혁 과정에서 제시한 여러 문제에 답하려 했다. 즉, 인간의 신체에는 가장 적은 고통을 주면서 동시에 인간의 정신에 지속적인 영향을 줄 수 있는 처벌을 현실에 구현하려 했던 것이 벤담의 파놉티콘 기획의 목적이었다. 파놉티콘은 시선을 매개로 한 감시 원리를 통해 감시자가 권력을 행사할 수 있게 하는 자동적ㆍ사회적 기계로 설계되었다. 파놉티콘은 변증법적 시선 구조를 가지고 있으며 육체와 정신을 분리해 정신에 고통을 가함으로써 고통을 은폐하는 구조를 가지고 있다. Jeremy Bentham(1748~1832) tried to answer the questions, which 18th century European Illuminati had raised on penal reform, through his Panopticon project. It’s purpose was to make it possible to give ceaseless effect on human mind without giving pains to its body. Panopticon was designed as an automatic-social machine permitting a surveillant to use power by gaze under the surveillance principle. It has the structure of dialectic gaze relation and for concealing pains which was imposed on a prisoner by forcing them to its mind not to its body.
