        Cefepime-induced neurotoxicity

        Cefepime, a widely used fourth-generation cephalosporin, has been reported to cause neurotoxicity because it crosses the blood-brain barrier. Although cefepime-induced neurotoxicity (CIN) occurs in patients with renal dysfunction administered a high dosage, CIN has also been reported in patients with normal renal function administered the appropriate dosage. CIN is characterized by toxic encephalopathy and electroencephalography abnormalities, such as triphasic wave, currently renamed as generalized periodic discharge (GPD) with triphasic morphology, and nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE). Toxic encephalopathy appears 2 to 6 days after cefepime administration and disappears 3 days after discontinuation of cefepime. Electroencephalography abnormalities in most reported cases are GPD with triphasic morphology rather than NCSE. CIN is reversible in most cases if early detection and discontinuation of cefepime is possible, which is the only definitive treatment; however, anticonvulsant therapy is unnecessary except for patients with convulsive seizures or definite NCSE. Emergent hemodialysis may also be helpful in life-threatening situations.

        The Effects of State Smart Growth Management and Local Contexts on Local Open Space Preservation

        This study explores the effects of state smart growth management and local contextual factors—in particular, aspects of hierarchical governance and the political market framework—on local open space preservation. It takes into account state intervention in local affairs, including state requirements for local planning practices in general and for open space preservation in particular. It also tests local contextual factors such as political and informal institutions,interest groups, and community and physical characteristics, using hierarchical linear modeling. The findings suggest that counties are more likely to preserve open space when the state government strongly intervenes in local planning practices. The county manager form of government and high population density are negatively associated with open space preservation, while high demands for growth control and the presence of active environmental interest groups are positively associated with it.

        Isolation of γ-Aminobutyric Acid Producing Lactobacillus brevis T118 from Sun-Tae Jeotgal and Its Glutamate Decarboxylase Gene Cloning

        A γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) producing microorganism was isolated from Sun-Tae Jeotgal, a Korean traditional fermented seafood. Two thousand presumptive lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolates were screened for GABA production by thin layer chromatography. One isolate, T118, produced GABA profusely, and identified as Lactobacillus brevis. Growth of Lb. brevis T118 was examined during 120 h cultivation in MRS broth under different conditions. Lb. brevis T118 grew well at 30-37℃, initial pH of 4-7, and up to 5% NaCl (w/v). A gene, gadB, encoding glutamate decarboxylase (GAD) was cloned by PCR. gadC encoding a glutamate/GABA antiporter was cloned and gadC located immediately upstream of gadB, indicating gadCB operon structure. The operon structure was confirmed by reverse transcription (RT)-PCR. gadB was overexpressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) and recombinant GAD was purified. The size of recombinant GAD was 54.4 kDa by SDS-PAGE, which matched well with the calculated size from the nucleotide sequence.

        Screen bag formulation of Beauveria andMetarhiziumgranules tomanage Riptortus pedestris (Hemiptera: Alydidae)

        Most entomopathogenic fungal biopesticides have been produced in wettable powder and liquid concentrate formulations. Separation of fungal conidia from granular substrates to manufacture these formulations is costly and labor-intensive, which has hampered growth of the fungal biopesticide industry. Herein to overcome this challenge, we developed a novel screen bag formulation using mycotized granules produced from solid-substrate cultures of Beauveria bassiana JEF-007 and Metarhizium anisopliae JEF-003. The isolates were solid-cultured on Italian millet grains and packed in screen bags (pore size: ~15 μm). The bags containing the mycotized granules were immersed in water and agitated to disperse the conidia, after which the number of conidia released into the water was determined. These results were compared to the number of conidia released after vortexing the granules in water as a control. Various surfactants were added to the water to assess their effect on conidial release. Silwet L-77 yielded the highest conidial release. The insecticidal activity against Riptortus pedestris nymphs of suspensions produced from the screen bag formulation and vortexed conidial suspensions was similar, demonstrating that our novel formulation could be a cost-effective replacement for standard WP and ES formulations. The screen bag formulation has several advantages over other standard fungal-based formulations, such as a shorter and lower-cost production process. This formulation technology could also be applied to other conidial-based biopesticides, such as fungal fungicides, herbicides, and fertilizers.

        BRM 정비를 통한 기록관리기준표 개선사례: 서울시 BRM 및 기록관리기준표 정비사례를 중심으로

        Unlike other government agencies, the city of Seoul experienced a three-year gap between the establishment of a function classification system and the introduction of a business management system. As a result, the city has been unable to manage the current status of the function classification system, and this impeded the establishment of standards for records management. In September 2012, the Seoul Metropolitan Government integrated the department in charge of the standard sheet for record management with the department of function classification system into a new department: “Information Disclosure Policy Division.” This new department is mainly responsible for record management and information disclosure, and taking this as an opportunity, the city government has pushed ahead with the maintenance project on BRM and Standards for Record Management (hereby “BRM maintenance project”) over the past two years, from 2013 to 2014. The study was thus conducted to introduce the case for the improvement of standards for record management through the BRM maintenance project by mainly exploring the case of Seoul. During the BRM maintenance project, Seoul established a unique methodology to minimize the gap between the operation of a business management system and the burden of the person in charge of the BRM maintenance project. Furthermore, after the introduction of the business management system, the city government developed its own processes and applied the maintenance result to the system in close cooperation with the related departments, despite the lack of precedence on the maintenance of the classification system. In addition, training for the BRM managers of the department has taken place twice —before and after the maintenance—for the successful performance of the BRM maintenance project and the stable operation of the project in the future. During the period of maintenance, newsletters were distributed to all employees in an effort to induce their active participation and increase the importance of records management. To keep the performance of the maintenance project and to systematically manage BRM in the future, the city government has mapped out several plans for improvement: to apply the “BRM classification system of each purpose” to the service of the“Seoul Open Data Plaza”; to reinforce the function for task management in the business management system; and to develop the function of a records management system for the unit tasks. As such, the researchers hope that this study would serve as a helpful reference so that the organizations-which had planned to introduce BRM or to perform the maintenance project on classification system-experience fewer trials and errors. 서울시는 다른 기관과 달리 기능분류시스템 구축과 업무관리시스템도입 사이에 3년의 시간차가 발생하여 기능분류체계의 현행관리가 되지 못했고, 이것은 기록관리기준표를 수립하지 못하는 문제로 이어졌다. 2012년 9월 서울시는 기록관리와 정보공개를 전담하는 정보공개정책과의 신설을 통해 기능분류시스템과 기록관리기준표의 운영부서를통합하였다. 이를 계기로 2013~2014년 2년에 걸쳐 ‘BRM 및 기록관리기준표 정비사업(이하 BRM 정비사업)’을 추진하게 되었다. 본 연구는 서울시 사례를 중심으로 BRM 정비를 통한 기록관리기준표 개선사례를소개하고자 한다. 서울시 BRM 정비사업은 업무담당자의 부담과 업무관리시스템의 운영공백을 최소화하기 위한 정비방법론을 수립하였다. 업무관리시스템 도입 후 분류체계를 정비하는 선례가 없는 상황에서관련부서와의 긴밀한 협의를 통해 독자적인 절차를 개발하고 정비결과를 시스템에 탑재하였다. 또한 BRM 정비사업을 성공적으로 수행하고 향후 안정적인 운영을 위해 BRM 부서관리자를 대상으로 정비 전· 후 2차례에 걸쳐 교육을 진행하였고, 정비사업 기간 동안 뉴스레터를배포하여 전 직원들의 적극적인 참여를 유도하고 기록관리 인식을 높이기 위해 노력하였다. 뿐만 아니라 정비성과를 유지하고 향후 BRM의체계적인 관리를 위해 기록관리시스템에 단위과제 현황기능 개발, 업무관리시스템에 과제관리 기능 보완, BRM 목적별 분류체계를 서울시정보소통광장의 서비스에 적용하는 등 여러 개선사항을 마련하였다. 본 연구가 새롭게 BRM을 도입하려는 기관 또는 분류체계 정비사업을준비하는 기관에서 시행착오를 줄이는데 참고사례가 될 수 있기를 바란다.

        유대강도, 정보의 속성 및 관여도가 SNS 내 구전 효과에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구

        본 연구는 최근 광고매체로 주목받고 있는 SNS(Social Networking Sites) 내에서 구전효과를 극대화 시킬 수 있는 광고 메시지를 검증하는 것을 목적으로 실시되었다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 유대강도에 대한 Frenzen과 Davis(1990)의 정의에 따라 페이스북과 트위터를 구분하여, 유대강도가 상이한 두 SNS(페이스북-강한 유대 vs. 트위터-약한 유대) 내에서 효과적인 구전 메시지(사실적 메시지 vs. 평가적 메시지)가 무엇인지 밝히고자 하였다(가설 1~3). 뿐만 아니라, 가설 4~6에서는 제품 관여도(고관여 vs. 저관여)에 따른 SNS 상의 유대강도와 메시지 속성의 3원 상호작용 효과가 온라인 구전 효과(e-WOM)에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 알아보고자 하였다. 연구 결과, SNS 내 유대강도와 메시지 속성이 수용의도, 구전의도, 구매의도에 미치는 상호작용 효과는 유의미하게 나타나 SNS 내 유대강도에 따라 효과적인 메시지가 상이함이 밝혀졌다. 즉, 인적 네트워크의 유대강도가 강한 페이스북에서는 평가적 메시지가, 유대강도가 약한 트위터에서는 사실적 메시지가 구전효과에 효과적이었다. 한편, 구전효과에 미치는 관여도, SNS 내 유대강도, 메시지 속성의 3원 상호작용 역시 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 이 같은 상호작용 효과는 고관여보다는 저관여 제품에서 더욱 두드러지는 것으로 검증되었다.
