The last Queen of Chosun Dynasty(Empress Myungsung) is one of the most famous women in the long Korean History. She married King Kojong in 1866 and died in 1895 by the barbarian assault of the Japanese soldiers and civillians just after the Sino-Japanese war. Her political power was paramount to anyone in the Royal palace except for the King Kojong for almost 30 years in the last part of 19th century. This paper focuses to research the political power and sacrifice of the last Queen of Chosun Dynasty(whose title was changed to Empress Myungsung by the royal decree in 1897). The writer uses royal letters of hers which have been collected in recent years from the offsprings of the Yeohung Min's family and also uses other domestic and foreign materials. This paper concludes that Empress Myungsung's role in the palace was integrated to support politically and diplomatically her husband, King Kojong(Empress Kojong in 1897). Even though she was so intelligent, smart and powerful in the palace court, she did not act without King Kojong's authorization. However the viewpoint of historiography of Confu챠an scholar's and Japanese colonial scholar's has distorted her image as well as those of King Kojong and the famous regent Taewonkun. That has been the worst sacrifice of her since her tragic death in 1895. It also means the distortion of modem Korean History.

Two phenylpropanoids and one flavan 3-ol were isolated from Lepisorus thunbergianus (Polypodiaceae, fern), which is used as folkmedicine. Phenylpropanoids were identified as caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid, and flavan 3-ol was elucidated as (-)-epicatechin 7-O-${\beta}$-D-glucoside by physico-chemical and spectral evidences (HMQC, NOESY).

Empress Myeongseong is one of the most famous and popular women in the long history of Korea. She married King Kojong in 1866 and lived a very dramatic life as a Queen of Korea for 30 years in the royal palace. Since her death by the Japanese authority in 1895, she has been the main target of Japanese distortion of Korean history. It is because her role and life can't be divided with Japanese intrusion of Korea in late 19th century. She spent most of her life as the powerful anti-Japanese member in the royal palace with her husband, King Kojong. After her death she was given the new title, Empress Myeongseong in 1897. This paper focuses to research the relation of Queen Min with 'Kamgodang(感古堂)'. Kamgodang was the private house of Queen Min until she moved to the palace as a Queen of Korea in 1866. It was bequeathed to her after her father died when she was 8 years old. It was also the private house of Queen Inhyun who was the wife of King Sookjong. Queen Inhyun is also a very famous woman in the palace history of Chosun dynasty and is one of Queen Min' s direct ancesters. Therefore Kamgodang is closely related to two Queens' s of Chosun Dynasty. It was originally situated at Ankugdong in Seoul. However it was moved to other place of Seoul. It had been in a private estate next to the Duksung Women's University in North Seoul. Kamgodang now is at the compound of 'Memorial Hall of Empress Myeongseong' in Yeoju City and has been 'repaired and reconstructed' by the city authority. It might be a good tool for us to remind of the dream and hope of Empress Myeongseong in her youth.

Necrobiosis lipoidica (NL) is a chronic granulomatous skin disease typified by indurated plaques on the shin. Although this condition is strongly associated with diabetes mellitus, its etiology and pathogenesis remains unknown. Localization of NL to the lower extremities suggests that local injury may be a contributing factor to the disease. A healthy 38-year-old man presented with localized erythematous to yellowish plaques on his right thigh that developed over several years. The lesion developed in the scar where suture had been done for laceration repair 25 years ago. A biopsy specimen showed degenerated collagen with surrounding palisading granulomas. Numerous lymphocytes and multinucleated giant cells were infiltrated throughout the reticular dermis. Plasma cells aggregation was found at the dermal subcutaneous junction. Childhood granulomatous periorificial dermatitis is a distinctive granulomatous form of perioral dermatitis, characterized by a monomorphous, small papular eruption around the mouth, nose, and eyes. It occurs primarily in prepubertal children. We present a case of a 12-year-old boy with multiple, asymptomatic, erythematous papules on the perioral, perinasal and periorbital areas for 5 months. Histopathological examination revealed upper dermal and perifollicular granulomatous infiltrate. After using oral dapsone 25 mg daily for 7 weeks, the skin lesions were considerably improved. But, 3 months after discontinuence of dapsone, exacerbation of the skin lesions occurred. (Korean J Dermatol 2011;49(11):1002∼1005)

An ultrasonic device for medical skin care is used to gently exfoliate the skin of dead skin cells and impurities. Ultrasound waves help loosen and remove oil, dirt and cellular debris from pores. Ponophoresis or sonophoresis is the use of ultrasound to increase percutaneous absorption of drugs, serums, lotions, creams and masques to a depth where it is more effective and beneficial. For improved results and safer procedures, we need to know the contraindications and adverse effects of ultrasonic treatments. Therefore, we summarized and reviewed the issue of safety including contraindications, cautions, and adverse events.
