In this research, we investigate a multiple-address Automated Storage/Retrieval System (AS/RS) when orders are assigned due dates. Orders to be retrieved arrive at the AS/R system according to a dynamic arrival pattern. Each order is defined by an arrival time to the input/output(I/O) point of the AS/RS, a set of products type, the corresponding quantities to be retrieved, and a due data. Orders can be retrieved individually or grouped in batches and every batch is retrieved in one trip of the S/R machine. Efficient algorithms are suggested for dynamic sequencing and batching of order retrievals. New orders that arrive during processing a batch are incorporated into the sequencing and batching algorithms by either sequencing and rebatching and waiting orders upon completion of the batch being retrieved or by performing sequencing and batching at fixed time windows. We investigate the effects of order arrival rate, the due date tightness, and length of the time window on the performance of the system.
