Currently, various research efforts are going on in Korea, related to the development of manganese nodules on the deep-sea bed of the pacific ocean. Resuspended sediment during the deep-sea development is considered a major environmental problem Therefore, it is important to quantitatively evaluate the possible environmental impacts of the resuspended deep-sea sediment. In this research, a method to calculate the residence time of resuspended sediment in the deep-sea development was presented using a particle size distribution model. In order to establish the method to predict the residence time of the resuspended sediment, a new approach was theoretically presented. And then, a computer model was constructed to realize the theoretical approach to calculate the residence time. The model incorporate the particle dynamics to predict the fate of the resuspended sediment based on particle sizes. Finally, this research showed the results of the residence time calculation under a representative environment of deep-sea development.
