        존재와 무Being and Nothingness

        이광세교수는 니시타니철학, 불교철학, 장자철학 등의 눈으로 서양의 여러 철학사상을 해명하는 일에 주력하고 있다. 칸트철학은 물론이고, 특히 비트겐슈타인과 하이데거, 로티의 철학을 니시타니 철학, 장자의 철학, 동아시아의 심미적 철학이란 눈으로 비교, 해석하는 철학 작업을 오랫동안 수행하고 있다. 이 논문 역시 그러한 철학 작업의 성과 가운데 하나로, 철학의 존재자성과 무와의 관련, 은폐와 비은폐성을 중심으로 하이데거 철학에서의 "존재 의미"를 규명하고 있다. 필자는 이런 구별을 하이데거철학과 니시타니의 철학과의 연관에 따라 해명하려한다. 그러한 철학 작업을 철학사에 대한 전반적 지식을 바탕으로 존재이해의 역사를 규명한 뒤, 그 배후에 감춰진 존재 망각의 내용을 무에 대한 불교철학적 이해, 니시타니 철학의 맥락에 따라 설명하고 있다.

        Molar Heat Capacity of Potassium Alum KAl(SO4)2·12H2O at Low Temperatures: Revisited with Determination of the Debye Temperature

        Two earlier published experimental data [C. H. Shomate, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 67, 765 (1945); D. G. Kapadnis and R. Hartmans, Physica 22, 173 (1956)] of the molar heat capacity C p of potassium alum, KAl(SO4)2·12H2O, are revisited. From analysis of the temperature dependence of C p [D. G. Kapadnis and R. Hartmans, Physica 22, 173 (1956)] below 20 K by using the experimental values of C p represented as a plot of C p /T = γ+AT2, the Sommerfeld parameter γ (electronic heat capacity coefficient) and the slope A (lattice heat capacity coefficient) are estimated as γ = 0 JK −2mol −1 and A = 3.35×10 −3 JK −4mol −1, respectively. This indicates that only acoustic phonons contribute to the heat capacity below 4 K. The Debye T3-law is found to hold good to 4 K, i.e., to T < θ D /20, where θ D is the calorimetric Debye temperature calculated as θ D = 83.4 K, indicative of the strength of the chemical bonding in the system.

        복합 전산 공력음향학(CAA) 방법을 이용한 시간영역 풍력터빈 저주파수 소음 예측과 분석

        Using Lowson's acoustic analogy, low frequency noise of a wind turbine (WT) is predicted in time domain and the noise sources contributing to the low frequency noise is analyzed. To compute averaged pressure distribution on blades of the WT as noise source, XFOIL is utilized. The blade source domain is divided into several segments along the span direction to compute force exerted on air surrounding the blade segments, which is used as input for noise prediction. The noise sources are decomposed into three terms of force fluctuation, acceleration and velocity terms and are analyzed to investigate each spectral contribution. Finally, predicted spectra are compared with measured low frequency noise spectrum of a wind turbine in operation. It is found that the force fluctuation component contributes strongly in low frequency range with increasing wind speed. Lowson의 음향상사식을 이용하여 시간영역에서 풍력터빈의 저주파수 소음을 예측 하였고, 관련 소음원들의 기여도를 분석하였다. 소음원으로서 날개-깃 상 평균 압력 분포를 구하기 위하여 XFOIL를 이용하였다. 이 때, 소음 예측 시 입력 값 인 유한 요소 상의 힘을 계산하기 위해 날개-깃을 여러 개의 요소로 분할하였다. 소음원을 힘 섭동항, 가속도항, 속도항으로 분리하여 주파수 기여도를 분석하였다. 끝으로, 예측 스펙트럼을 운용 중 인 풍력터빈에 대하여 측정한 저주파수 소음과 비교하였고, 그 결과 풍속 증가에 따라 힘 섭동 성분이 저주파수에서 크게 기여하는 것을 확인하였다.

        Dipole Glass Phase in an Isolated Hydrogen-Bonded Mixed Crystal [(NH$_4$)$_{1-x}$Rb$_x$]$_3$H(SO$_4$)$_2$ ($x$ = 0.58)

        [(NH$_4$)$_{1-x}$Rb$_x$]$_3$H(SO$_4$)$_2$ mixed crystals were investigated by dielectric constant measurement and Raman spectroscopy from room temperature to 7 K. In contrast to the result of (NH$_4$)$_3$H(SO$_4$)$_2$ ($x=0$) showing multiple phase transitions, [(NH$_4$)$_{1-x}$Rb$_x$]$_3$H(SO$_4$)$_2$ ($x=0.58$) mixed crystal does not show any remarkable dielectric anomaly but a weak dielectric dispersion below 40 K, which is characterized by the Arrhenius law. From the measurement of the Raman spectra of both crystals, it is confirmed that the [(NH$_4$)$_{1-x}$Rb$_x$]$_3$H(SO$_4$)$_2$ ($x=0.58$) mixed crystal shows a global symmetry conservation between the two spectra measured at room temperature and at 20 K while the (NH$_4$)$_3$H(SO$_4$)$_2$ crystal exhibits drastic structural changes associated with the sequence of the phase transitions. It is concluded that [(NH$_4$)$_{1-x}$Rb$_x$]$_3$H(SO$_4$)$_2$ ($x=0.58$) mixed crystal shows a new dipole glass phase in the isolated hydrogen-bonded system.

        Confucian Self-Identity and Self-Realization in the Modern World

        In this paper I discuss the relevance of Confucianism to modern democracy. By modern democracy is meant the fullest possible participation of the greatest number of the people, regardless of their social origin, gender, race, class, religion, physical disability, and other differentiating factors, in the relevant decision-making procedures and processes of political life. One key concept integral to modern democracy is that of individual. I discuss the Confucian variation on the Deweyan theme of social individual as contrasted with the now antiquated notion of the classical modern Western libertarian concept of atomic individual. A social individual is an individual who can make responsible choice in social context; a social individual has social responsibilities commensurate with his/her freedom and individual rights. The sort of freedom (liberty) that social individuals exercise is positive liberty as well as negative liberty (to use the expressions coined by Isaiah Berlin as evidently inspired by Immanuel Kant). I relate Berlin’s positive liberty to the Mencian twin concepts of jadeuk (in Korean) or tzu te (in Chinese), that is, acquiring the Way by self-efforts and jaim (in Korean) and tzu jen (in Chinese), to wit, assuming one’s responsibility of one’s own accord. These twin concepts embody “moral individualism” (to use the expression invented by William de Bary) in Confucianism. In lieu of “moral individualism,” I use the expression “holistic individualism” for similar purposes. For Confucians, true freedom means being able to perform responsible action in specific cultural, historical, and social context. Which means that becoming thoroughly familiar with the old helps an enlightened individual to project new possibilities onto the future (onko chishin). Onko chishin has affinity with Heidegger’s Zeitlichkeit and the Deweyan concept of social individual. I discuss the relevance of the Confucian notion of rulership of virtue or virtuous statesmanship to modern democracy, that is to say, the relevance of practicing statesmanship to show humane care (in in Korean and ren in Chinese) for the people by nourishing them, furthering their well-being, helping them to be educated, and helping to enhance their dignity. The Confucian idea of rectification of names resonates with modern democracy’s idea of separation of powers. In Confucian society, for that matter in any civilized society, rituals (ye in Korean, li in Chinese) should have primacy over the law: self-assertion should yield to deference for pride of place in civilized society. Yet the coupling of rites/rights need not be an uneasy one. I submit that an enlightened concept of rights in modern democracy is complementary to the Confucian ideal of virtuous rulership. In particular, I discuss civil rights, political rights, and social rights as advanced by T. H. Marshall in relation to the idea of the welfare state. The three kinds of rights are inextricably interwoven with one another. Civil rights lead to political rights which in turn occasion the rise of social rights. I relate them to the traditional Confucian ideal of virtuous rulership. In fine, the rights as cast by Marshall in the mold of modern democracy resonate with the traditional Confucian ideal of virtuous rulership, that is to say, the ideal of nourishing and educating the people, furthering their well-being and dignity, and helping them realize their full human potentialities. For enlightened Confucians and enlightened liberals alike, self-identity is self-realization, that is, fully realizing one’s human potentialities. Confucianism and modern democracy are the twain that, pace Kipling, has met.

        Lambda ($\lambda$) Transition in the Heat Capacity by Finite Block Spin Phenomenology

        We explain the lambda ($\lambda$) transition in the heat capacity in terms of spin freezing on the basis of finite-sized block spin concepts. Thus, the spin-glass phase or the antiferromagnetic/paramagnetic phase near the N\'eel temperature may be considered as a short-range ordering of the block spins comprised of many random spins with respective majority spin directions. Using the Curie law for the block spins, we obtain the $\lambda$-type heat capacity in the lower and the higher temperature approximations of the Brillouin function. The theoretical heat capacity gives a good fit to the experimental data.
