The heat transfer characteristics from a solid sphere in a fluctuating air flow is simulated numerically in the range of the Reynolds numbers, $1\;{\leqslant}\;Re\;{\leqslant}\;40.$ Such a situation may be encountered in forced convection from a heated spherical particle in a sound field or oscillat-ing flow. The amplitude and phase delay in the heat transfer response to the flow oscillation are computed for a small amplitude flow. The instantaneous response of heat transfer is simulated for the large amplitude oscillation and compared with the quasi-steady response. The effect of the oscillation on the time - mean value in the local and overall heat transfer rate is discussed along with the change in the flow .field.

Current common rail engines are equipped with cooled EGR systems by using an engine cooling water system. In this study, investigations of exhaust gas reduction characteristics have been carried out in the common rail engine system depending on the EGR rate variation. The experimental results shows that NOx reduces and smoke increases as the EGR rate increases.

Fuel filter in common rail engines are equipped with special heating system because of wax and paraffin components in diesel fuel can be solidifies at low fuel temperature. The solidified components blocks fuel supply to the high pressure fuel pump according to the filter element filling. In case of common rail direct injected engines, fuel blocking may cause serious damage to high pressure pump because of fuel pump is lubricated by fuel itself. The extremely narrow clearance between plunger and barrel can be directly contacted if discontinuous fuel supplies. This study focuses on evaluation technologies for heating element type diesel fuel filters that can improves fuel flow at low temperature. Flow capability, power consumptions and pressure drop has been estimated in a specially made fuel delivery testing system.

LPI fuel filter has a high reliability related component that has direct influence on performance, safety, and durability of engines. Even under mileage 10,000㎞, the current LPI fuel filters can lead to sudden engine stop, engine control problem, and engine stat problem. In oder to lower the chocking problem, an external type LPI fuel filter is developed for wider filtration area and increased collection volume. Because of the tight requirement of the reliability, various evaluation technologies are developed. The evaluation technologies include gas tight test, different pressure test, vibration test, filtration test, pressure test, static electricity test, fuel corrosion test, etc.
