In this paper, the variable speed control of permanent magnet synchronous motor driven by a sinus¬oidal PWM inverter based on maximum torque sensitivity is presented. The developed torque or speed control is achieved by the field orientation technique. For the field orientation, the resolver is used as the rotor positioning sensor mounted on the motor shaft without pull-out of the synchonism at any speed. To show the validity of proposed control method, the simulation and experimental results are provided. The advantages of the proposed control method are to achieve the fast current and speed responses.

This paper the speed control of a wound rotor induction motor is studied by the insertion of a counter EMF in the rotor circuit. Inverter feeds a counter EMF in the rotor circuit receiving a reactive power from the AC source. Motor speed is controlled by the variable counter EMF, which is abtained by variating the firing angle of the inverter. Steady state static relationships between torque, slip, inverter voltage, efficiency and power factor are derived and compared with experimental results. This system is with high efficiency because most of the slip power is fed back to the AC source. The power factor is poor, because the inverter absorbs a reactive power from the AC source. How ever the power factor can be improved if the range of speed control is limited and the proper transformation ratio is selected using the inverter transformer. The motor inverter system has a linear torque current relation independent of the speed order to obtain a good power factor for its system inverter transformer is inserted.

Today we find step motors in practically all types of computer peripheral equipment, such as, printers, tape drives, memory access mechanisms (FDD etc.), X-Y table, capstan drives, and numerical machine tool systems, process control systems. Step motors are natural for this type of application, since the positional error does not accumulate, and no feedback is necessary. The driving performance of step motor in open loop control system largely depends on excitation method and driving circuits. In high pulse rate the torque performance is poor due to insufficient current of inductive motor winding. In this paper, the driving performance of step motor controlled system using the microprocessor is studied here. A 200 steps/revolution hybride type stepmotor and Bilevel drive method are employed in our study. Bilevel drive method is adapted to reduce the rising time of the current in the motor winding. The phase switching sequences for the different operation modes are given by look-up tables in ROM on the microprocessor board and so excitation circuit is very simple. Experimental results show that the step response is much improved and the torque characteristics of this system is superior to constant voltage driven method particularly in medium and high pulse rate.
