19세기 후반 응우옌 쯔엉 또(Nguyễn Trường Tộ)의 개혁 논의와 응우옌(Nguyễn) 왕조의 대응

Nguyễn Trường Tộ (1830~1871) was a Roman Catholic scholar and reformer during the reign of Tự Đức (r. 1848~1883) of the Nguyễn Dynasty. He was best known for an inexhaustible advocacy of a systematic and progressive reform of Vietnam, criticising the retrograde Confucianism of the Huế court as well as of the intellectual class. Although many Vietnamese and Western scholars have 'intentionally' or 'unintentionally' believed that Tộ's reform proposals were not accepted in full by the Huế court, this view has to be challenged because there is no solid evidence for this a priori belief. Before 1848, Nguyễn Trường Tộ mastered the classical Vietnamese education through traditional means of study. Between 1848 and 1863, he was exposed to a broad range of reform ideas by reading European books in French and in Chinese or Japanese translation. Tộ began to submit his first petitions to Tự Đức advocating policy reform from 1863. Between this year and his death in 1871, he sent to the Nguyễn court more than fiy-eight petitions. Primary sources from the Nguyễn court's records suggest that winning the gradual confidence of the mandarin political elite, including Tự Đức, Nguyễn Trường Tộ's ideas and proposals for reform were not completely rejected or ignored. The petitions from Tộ's were well received by the emperor, who invited him to court on several occasions. Tự Đức was sufficiently confident of Tộ's good intentions that he called on him for state service. The proposals initiated by Nguyễn Trường Tộ were not implemented piecemeal.Such ideas as the purchase of modern machinery and textbooks, the propagation of 'new learning' and the improvement of educational system had positive influence in accelerating national reforms and changes, while impeding the extension of French domination over all of Vietnam by the end of the 19th century.

Composite biological and synthetic grafts with progenitor cells offer an alternative approach to auto- or allografts for fracture repair. This study was conducted to evaluate osteogenesis of autologous serum-derived albumin (ASA) scaffolds seeded with canine adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (Ad-MSCs) in a canine segmental bone defect model. ASA scaffold was prepared with canine serum using cross-linking and freeze-drying procedures. Beta-tricalcium phosphate (b-TCP) was mixed at the cross-linking stage. Ad-MSCs were seeded into the scaffold and incubated for one day before implantation. After 16 weeks, the grafts were harvested for histological analysis. The dogs were divided into five groups: control, ASA scaffolds with and without Ad-MSCs, and ASA scaffolds including b-TCP with and without Ad-MSCs. ASA scaffolds with Ad-MSCs had a significantly larger area of increased opacity at the proximal and distal host cortex-implant interfaces in radiographs 16 weeks after implantation compared to the groups with b-TCP (p < 0.05). Histomorphometric analysis showed that ASA scaffolds with Ad-MSCs had significantly greater new bone formation than other groups (p < 0.05). These results suggest that Ad-MSCs seeded into ASA scaffolds enhanced osteogenesis in the bone defect model, but that b-TCP in the ASA scaffold might prevent penetration of the cells required for bone healing.
On Making the Unconscious Conscious in Art Therapy -Toward a semantic theory of the unconscious-

In the following a few pages, I shall first briefly estimate the value of the unconscious as an essential theoretic ingredient in and for art therapy(Section II) after a brief introduction(Section I); renounce the ontological, if not functional, status of the unconscious having no empirically verifiable contents in terms of the current scientific findings and opinions on the unconscious(Section III); then propose and develop an alternative reading of the unconscious by virtue of new interpretations or standpoints about the unconscious especially from cognitive sciences that might help art therapists get a clearer understanding of the unconscious in their art therapy practice(Section IV), followed by the conclusion(Section V) that there is a possibility of making the unconscious conscious through semantic ascent. This paper aims neither an added knowledge to art therapy itself nor a report of art therapeutic practice, but assistance for art therapists to gain an insight in reading and inspecting the client for an art therapy.
