        Analysis of cellular communication network factor (CCN) 4 and CCN6 expression in the endometrium during the estrous cycle and at the maternal-conceptus interface in pigs

        The cellular communication network factor (CCN) family proteins regulate many biological events such as angiogenesis, tumor growth, placentation, implantation, and embryogenesis. The expression and function of CCN1, CCN2, and CCN3 at the maternal-conceptus interface are established in humans and rodents, but little is known about the role of CCN4 to CCN6 in the reproductive organs in any other species. Several studies in transcriptome analysis in pigs have shown that the expression of CCN4 and CCN6 increases in the endometrium during early pregnancy. However, their expression, regulation, and function in the endometrium throughout the estrous cycle and pregnancy have not been fully understood in pigs. Thus, we determined the expression, localization, and regulation of CCN4 and CCN6 during the estrous cycle and at the maternal-conceptus interface in pigs. We found that the levels of CCN4, but not CCN6, changed during the estrous cycle. The levels of CCN4 were greater during mid- to late pregnancy than in the early stage, and the levels of CCN6 were greatest on Day 15 of pregnancy. CCN4 and CCN6 were detected in conceptus tissues during early pregnancy and in chorioallantoic tissues during the later stage of pregnancy. CCN4 mRNA was mainly localized to epithelial cells, CCN6 mRNAs to epithelial and stromal cells in the endometrium. In endometrial explant cultures, CCN4 expression was increased by progesterone, and CCN6 expression by interferon-γ. These results suggest that CCN4 and CCN6 may play roles in the establishment and maintenance of pregnancy by regulating the endometrial epithelial cell functions in pigs.

        The influence of grain boundary on the electrical properties of WO3-doped SrTiO3 ceramics has been investi-gated. From the result resistivity and capacitance of grains and boundaries were obtained by employing impedance spectrocopy. And the temperature dependance of capacitance of WO3-doped SrTiO3. was influenced directly by the variation of grain boundary capacitance. It was also found by impedance spectroscopy that the dispersion frequency characteristics showed discernibly that the resistivity of the specimen varied with WO3 content.

        각종 중재적 시술시 술자의 피폭선량

        목 적: 각종 중재적시술시 납옷착용, 시술종류, 투시시간, 술자의 숙련도에 따른 술자의 피폭선량을 알아보고자 하였다. 대상 및 방법: 각종 중재적 시술중 30예의 경도자 동맥색전술(TEA). 25예의 경피경간 담즙배액술(PTBD), 16예의 담석 제거술(SR), 15예의 경피적 생검실(PCNA), 10예의 경피적 신루설치술(PCN)의 총 96예를 대상으로 하였다. 이들에서 납옷착용, 시술종류, 투시시간, 술자의 숙달도에 따른 술자의 방사선 피폭선량을 알아보기 위하여 각 시술종류별로 투시시간과 납옷 안 밖의 피폭선량을 정향적 방법으로 측정하였다. 술자의 숙련도에 따른 피폭선량의 차이를 알아보기 위하여 경도자 동맥색전술과 경피경간 담즙배액술의 경우 술자를 교수와 전공의로 나누어 각각 따로 시행하였다. 방사선 피폭선량은 개인선량 측정기구로 사용하는 필름뱃지를 가슴부위 납옷의 안 밖에 각각 착용하여 측정하였다. 납옷은 0.5mm 두께 납당량 제품을 사용하였다. 결 과:0.5mm 두께 납 당량의 납옷은 평균72.8%의 방호효과가 있었다. 시술종류에 따른 시술당 술자의 피폭선량은 전동의가 시행한 경피경간 담즙배액술이 23.3mSv(이하 단위 mSv)로 가장 높았고 그 이하로 교수가 시행한 경피경간 담즙배액술이 10.0, 담석 제거술이 10.0, 경피적 신루설치술이 9.0, 전공의가 시행한 경도자 동맥색전술이 8.7, 교수가 시행한 경도자 동맥색전술이 7.3, 경피적 생검술이 6.0의 순으로 나타났다. 투시시간과 피폭선량은 일차직선적 비례관계를 보이고 있지 않았다. 이는 분당 피폭선량이 각 시술 종류마다 다르기 때문이었다. 술자의 숙련도에 따른 피폭선량의 차이는 전공의가 교수에 비해 약 .19배의 피폭선량을 보이고 있었다. 결 론: 각종 중재적시술시 술자의 피폭선량은 납옷착용. 시술종류, 술자의 숙련도에 따라 영향받고 있었고 투시시간과 피폭선량은 일차직선적 비예 관계를 보이고 있지 않았다. Purpose To investigate the levels of radiation exposure of an operator which may be influenced by the wearing an apron, type of procedure, duration of fluoroscopy and operator's skill during various interventional proceduresMeterials and Methods : Radiation doses were measured both inside and outside the apron(0.5 mm lead equivalent) of the operator by a film badge monitoring method and the duration of fluoroscopy was measured in 96 procedures prospectively. The procedures were 30 transcatheter arterial embolizations (TAE), 25 percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainages (PTBD), 16 stone removals (SR), 15 percutaneous needle aspirations(PCNA) and 10 percutaneous nephrostomies(PCN). To assess the difference of exposure by the operator's skill, the procedures of TAE and PTBD were done separately by groups of staffs and residents.Results : Average protective effect of the apron was 72.8%. Average radiation exposure(unit mSv/procedure)was 23.3 in PTBD by residents, 10.0 in PTBD by staffs, 10.0 in SR, 8.7 in TAE by residents, 7.3 in TAE by staffs, 9.0 in PCN and 6.0 in PCNA. Average radiation exposure of residents were 1.9 times greater than those of staffs.Conclusion : Radiation exposure was not proportionally related to the duration of fluoroscopy, but influenced by wearing an apron, various types of procedure and operator s skills.

        Huge Liposarcoma of Esophagus Resected by Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection: Case Report with Video

        Liposarcoma is one of the most common soft tissue sarcomas occurring in adults, but it rarely occurs in the gastrointestinal tract and more uncommonly in the esophagus. To the best of our knowledge, there are only 19 reported cases of esophageal liposarcoma in the literature published in English language up to the year 2008, and they were all treated by surgical methods. Here, we report a case of primary liposarcoma of the esophagus which was treated with endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). ESD was well tolerated in this patient, suggesting that it may be a therapeutic option for primary esophageal sarcomas.

        인쇄전자(printed electronics) 기술은 인쇄(graphic art printing)가 가능한 기능성전자 잉크소재를 이용하여 초저가격의 프린팅 공정을 통해서 다양한 전자소자를 제작하는 기술로서, 차세대 모바일 IT 기기의 제작에 적합한 전자제품을 생산하는 데 적합한 공정 기술로 인식되고 있다. 현재 기술 수준이 일부 요소 부품을 제작하는 수준에 머무르고 있으나, 여러 가지 잉크소재 및 다양한 초미세 인쇄공정 기술의 개발이 진행됨에 따라 향후 다양한 공정 분야에 적용될 것으로 예상되며, 궁긍적으로 전자제품을 생산하는 기존 반도체 공정을 대체하는 공정으로 자리매김을 할 것으로 예상된다. 특히 인쇄공정 기술은 저온에서 공정이 가능한 기능성 잉크소재들의 개발을 통해서 유연한 플라스틱 기판에 전자소자를 제작하는 플렉시블 전자소자(flexible electronics) 기술과 높은 공정 결합성을 지니고 있으며 이들 공정을 결합하여 향후 연속 공정(roll-to-roll)의 구현이 가능할 것으로 예상된다. 본 기고문에서는 이러한 인쇄전자 기술의 개발동향에 대해서 기술하였다.

        EPI 기법을 이용한 운동성 뇌언어중추의 기능적 자기공명영상

        Purpose : To evaluate the feasibility of functional MR imaging(fMRI) using the echo-planar imaging (EPI)technique to map the motor speech center and to provide the basic data for motor speech fMRI during internal wordgeneration. Materials and Methods : This study involved ten young, healthy, right-handed volunteers (M:F=8:2 ;Age: 21-27) ; a 1.5 T whole body scanner with multislice EPI was used. Brain activation was mapped using gradientecho single shot EPI(TR/TE of 3000/40, slice numbers 6, slice thickeness 10 mm, no interslice gap, matrix numbers128$\times$128, and FOV 30$\times$30). The paradigm consisted of a series of alternating rest and activation tasks, repeatedeight times. During the rest task, each of ten Korean nouns composed of two to four syllables was showncontinuously every 3 seconds. The subjects were required to see the words but not to generate speech, whereasduring the activation task, they were asked to internally generate as many words as possible from each of tennon-concrete one-syllabled Korean letters shown on the screen every 3 seconds. During an eight-minute period, atotal of 960 axial images were acquired in each subject. Data were analyzed using the Z-score(p<0.05), andfollowing color processing, the activated signals were overlapped on T1-weighted images. The location of theactivated area, mean activated signal intensity change (%), mean activated pixel numbers, and the presence ofcyclic change in signal intensity were evaluated. Results : In seven subjects, activation was observed in the leftBroca's area and its adjacent areas(Brodmann areas 44, 45, 46, 6 and 10) ; in three of the seven, activation inBroca's areas was bilateral. In two of the remaining three subjects, the medial portion of the frontal lobe wasactivated, while in the other, there was no significant signal change in any area. Mean activated signal changewas 2.6$\pm$1.3% in the left Broca's area and 1.2$\pm$1.7% in the right, while the mean number of activated pixels was67$\pm$46 in the left area and 23$\pm$33 in the right. Periodic cyclic signal change according to rest and activationwas seen in the left Broca's area in four subjects, in the bilateral Broca's area in two, and in the medialportion of the frontal lobe in two. Conclusion : The results of this study indicate that in most subjects, fMRIusing EPI can effectively map the motor speech center. The data obtained may be useful for the clinicalapplication of fMRI.

        Leukemia inhibitory factor and its receptor: expression and regulation in the porcine endometrium throughout the estrous cycle and pregnancy

        Objective: Leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) binds to a heterodimeric receptor composed of LIF receptor (LIFR) and glycoprotein 130 (GP130) to transmit signals into the cell. LIF plays an important role in reproduction by regulating immune response, decidualization, and implantation in several species. However, the expression of LIF and LIFR in the endometrium throughout the estrous cycle and pregnancy in pigs is not fully understood. Methods: We analyzed the expression of LIF and LIFR in the endometrium on days 0 (estrus), 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, and 18 of the estrous cycle, and days 12, 15, 30, 60, 90, and 114 of pregnancy, in conceptuses on days 12 and 15, and in chorioallantoic tissues on days 30, 60, 90, and 114 of pregnancy in pigs. We also determined the effects of estrogen and progesterone on the expression of LIF and LIFR in endometrial tissues. Results: The expression of LIF increased in the endometrium during the late diestrus phase of the estrous cycle and during mid- to late- pregnancy, while the expression of LIFR increased during early pregnancy. The expression of LIF was induced by increasing doses of estrogen, whereas the expression of LIFR was induced by increasing doses of progesterone. Conclusion: These results indicate that the expression of LIF and its receptor LIFR in the endometrium is regulated in a stage-specific manner during the estrous cycle and pregnancy, suggesting that LIF and its receptor signaling system may play critical roles in regulating endometrial function in pigs.
