급속한 고령화는 성장추세 둔화라는 문제점과 더불어 고령친화 관련 제품 및 서비스에 대한 소비욕구 증대로 산업으로서의 잠재력도 내포하고 있다. 그동안 추진된 고령친화산업 관련 사업 논의에서 고령화문제 인식부족, 중장기 마스터플랜 부재, 관련 산업 활성화를 위한 자체사업 부진 등의 문제점들을 지적하였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 먼저 부산지역 고령친화산업의 지역 경제적 위상을 고찰하고 성장요인을 분석하였다. 분석한 결과, 지역의 여건을 고려한 차세대 동력산업으로서의 활성화 방안 모색이 필요하다는 것을 확인하였다. 구체적인 분석의 결과로서 고령친화 산업 전체 구조 및 입지여건이 양호하여 지역특화산업으로서의 가능성을 확인하였다. 하지만 제조 유통 서비스 측면에서는 입지여건이 취약한 것으로 나타났으며, 산업적 측면에서 상대적 경쟁력이 낮은 것으로 분석되었다. As the population's aging progresses at an unprecedented rate in Korea, there have been concerns about its negative effect on the economy, such as the decrease in labor population, saving rate and the increase in social welfare expenses. Thus, the old-age friendly industry is referred to as the most critical sector of the economy. But the current support from the government is not based on an objective validity. Moreover, the results are uncertain. From this point of view, this study concentrated on analyzing the structural characteristics of old-age friendly industry in order to identify growth factors. After classifying the criteria, this study investigated the sources of industrial growth in the old-age friendly industry during the years 2003~2006 using a shift-share analysis. The industry has features of remarkable linkage effects on the regional economy. Finally, the characteristics of the old-age friendly industry were determined and useful policy suggestions were derived.
