Magnet wheel which has a high force density is used to convey a copper rod without contact. As the magnet wheel consists of permanent magnet array repeated periodically, the generated force magnitude and force characteristic are influenced by specifications such as pole number of permanent magnets, rotating speed of the magnet wheel, rod position, etc. In this paper, we analyze the influence of main parameters on the magnetic force through the magnet wheel.

When the magnet array repeated spirally in the circumferential direction rotates around the conductive rod, it brings out the spiral motion on the rod. The generated forces are influenced by pole number, level difference and overlapped area between neighboring magnets, and rotating speed etc. In this paper, the forces are analyzed quantitatively through commercial tool, Maxwell.

Varying the relative position and posture between neighboring PMs constituting magnet wheel around a conductive rod, we can obtain a spiral motion of the rod by only the rotation of the magnet wheel. It gives a chance to convey the rod without mechanical contact. In this paper, the developed conveyance system is given, including the quantitative analysis of a few parameters influencing the force characteristics.
