The Bioenergy Conversion Characteristics of Feedlot Manure Discharging from Beef Cattle Barn

This study was carried out to assess bioenergy conversion efficiency by biogas and solid fuel production in the cattle feedlot manure discharged from beef cattle barn. Feedlot manure was sampled from the cattle farmhouse located in Yong-in, Gyeonggi during the mid-fattening stage, periodically. The chemical characteristics, BMP (Biochemical methane potential) and HV (Heating values) of feedlot cattle manures were analyzed. Total solid contents of cattle feedlot manure were in the range of 29.98~44.28%, and volatile solid contents were in the range of 23.53~24.47%. In the anaerobic digestion of cattle feedlot manure, the methane production potential has increased from 0.141 to 0.187 Nm3 kg-1-VSadded. The methane production of fresh cattle feedlot manure showed the range 0.141~0.187 Nm3 kg-1-Manure (average 0.047 Nm3 kg-1-Manure), the LHVs (lower heating values) of the produced methane were in the range of 316~560 kcal kg-1-Manure (average 400 kcal kg-1- Manure). In the direct combustion of fresh cattle feedlot manure, the LHVs were measured in the range of 747~1,271 kcal kg-1-Manure (average 916 kcal kg-1-Manure), and LHVs of solid fuel which have the water content of 20% were in the range of 2,694~2,876 kcal kg-1-Manure (average 2,791 kcal kg-1-Manure). Then, the drying energy of average 443 kcal kg-1-Manure was consumed in the production of solid fuel which has a water content of 20%. Therefore, the direct combustion of cattle feedlot manure showed about 2.3 times higher LHV than the LHV of methane produced by anaerobic digestion. And LHV of solid fuel was about 6.0 times higher than the LHV of methane produced by anaerobic digestion. Then, the production of solid fuel presented more bioenergy conversion efficiency than the biogas production in the bioenergy use of cattle feedlot manure.
Effects of Organic Content on Anaerobic Biodegradability of Sludge Generating from Slaughterhouse

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of organic content level on ultimate methane potential and anaerobic biodegradability of substrate by biochemical methane potential assay. Three organic matters (whole sludge and liquid and solid fraction of sludge) of the same origin, which had different organic contents, were fermented at the batch anaerobic reactor for 70 days. Ultimate methane potential and anaerobic biodegradability were determined by the terms of volatile solid (VS) and chemical oxygen demand (COD). Volatile solid contents of whole sludge and solid and liquid fraction of sludge were 2.4, 18.8, and 0.2% and COD were 5.3, 30.4, and 0.5%, respectively. Ultimate methane potentials (Bu-VS) and anaerobic biodegradability (DVS) determined by VS content were 0.5 Nm3 kg-1-VSadded, 76.3% for whole sludge, 0.5 Nm3kg-1-VSadded, 76.3% for the liquid fraction of sludge, and 0.6 Nm3 kg-1-VSadded, 77.0% for the solid fraction of sludge. Ultimate methane potentials (Bu-COD) and anaerobic biodegradability (DCOD) determined by COD were 0.2 Nm3 kg-1-CODadded, 73.4% for whole sludge, 0.2 Nm3 kg-1-CODadded, 74.0% for the liquid fraction of sludge, and 0.33 Nm3 kg-1-CODadded, 99.1% for the solid fraction of sludge. In conclusion, ultimate methane potential and anaerobic biodegradability given by the VS term showed more reasonable results because COD might be underestimated by the interference of NH4+ in the case of highly concentrated organic material.

This study describes both the background and the process in Honam(Southwestregion of South Korea) of the 19th presidential election in 2017, and analyzes itsresults by utilizing various survey data. This study wonders why the high popularsupport in Honam of Kukmin Party(People’s Party) shown in the preceding 20thNational Assembly elections faded away so drastically. It finds that the 2016“Rebate” corruption case and the presidential impeachment process in turn havecontributed to the change a lot. The presidential election was heavily affected by the impeachment process anda series of candle-light mobilizations. Ideological inclination is found to be adecisive factor in choosing presidential candidates. The progressive civil society,having been negative to the opposition party’s split, was invigorated by themobilizations and became strongly supportive to the Democratic Party whichpromised a clear transfer of government between political powers. In ballots,Honam voters turned out to be less homogeneous than before. There seems to bechances of realigning political parties. The existing regional party system may bereplaced by a more ideological party competition if Ahn Cheol Soo’s attempt toset up a party with centrism is successful.
