        Transcriptional regulators of hepatic gluconeogenesis

        Glucose is a primary fuel for generating energyin basic daily activities. Thus, glucose homeostasis istightly regulated by counter-regulatory hormones such asglucagon, cortisol, and insulin, which affect key organsincluding liver, skeletal muscle, pancreas, and adipocytes. Among metabolic tissues, liver plays a critical role incontrolling glucose production under various hormonal andmetabolic cues. Under fasting, acute activation of bothglycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis is achieved by posttranslationalmodification or allosteric activation of keyrate-limiting enzymes, thereby enabling enhanced glucoseproduction from the liver to maintain glucose homeostasis. More prolonged fasting or starvation leads to the chronicactivation of gluconeogenesis that requires increasedexpression of key enzymes in the pathway, which is turnedoff under feeding conditions by the molecular events thatare initiated by insulin. This process is normally achievedby the regulation of gene expression at the level of transcription. Recently, the transcriptional regulators of hepaticgluconeogenesis are considered as potential therapeutictargets for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. In this review,we would like to discuss the current knowledge regardingthe key transcriptional activators and inhibitors of hepaticgluconeogenic program to provide the better insight intothe control of glycemia in the disease status.

        셀룰러/PCS/IMT-2000 기지국용 다중대역 평판 안테나 설계 및 구현

        본 논문에서는 셀룰러/PCS/IMT-2000서비스를 동시에 수용할 수 있는 기지국용 다중대역 평판 안테나를 설계 및 제작하였다. 설계된 안테나는 두 개의 유전체 층과 폼 물질로 구성되었고 마이크로스트립 패치의 길이 방향과 너비 방향에 노치가 삽입되었다. 안테나의 광대역 특성을 위해서, 공진 개구면을 가지는 개구면 결합 안테나에 폼 물질을 사용하였으며, 패치의 너비 방향에 노치를 삽입하여 이중 공진 특성을 얻었다. 이를 통해, 광대역 특성을 유지하면서 주파수비( $f_{H/}$ $f_{L}$)가 1:2를 넘는 이중 공진 특성을 얻을 수 있었다. 설계된 안테나의 대역폭은 전압정재파비 1.5 이하로 셀룰러/PCS/IMT-2000 대역을 모두 만족하였고 측정된 안테나의 대역폭은 전압정재파비 1.5 이하로 셀룰러 대역에서 77 MHz, PCS/IMT-2000대역에서 550 MHz이며, 이득은 전 대역에서 약 5.65 dBi에서 7.4 dBi를 얻을 수 있었다.다.다. In this paper, a novel dual and wide band aperture stacked patch antenna for Cellular/PCS/IMT-2000 base station is presented. It consists of single microstrip patch having notches along the radiating patch, two dielectric substrates and a form material. To achieve wide band characteristic, we utilize the coupling effect between the notched patch and the resonant aperture in the ground plane and by properly cutting notches on the patch, an aperture stacked patch antenna could be designed to yield dual frequency operation. By the proper choice of resonant aperture size and height of a foam material, dual and wide band characteristic could be realized the measured impedance bandwidth(1:1.5 VSWR) of designed antenna at lower band(860 MHz) reaches 77 MHz and covers the Cellular CDMA band(824∼894 MHz). The measured impedance bandwidth(1:1.5 VSMR) of the designed antenna at upper band(1,960 MHz) is about 550 MHz and covers both the PCS band(1,750∼l,870 MHz) and the for-2000 band(1,920∼2,170 MHz). Good broadside radiation with high gain(5.65∼7.4 dBi) characteristics have also been observed.

        Women’s political participation in South Korea and activist organizations

        Although South Korea has achieved unprecedented economic growth, gender inequality remains a serious social issue and continues to persist in various sectors. This paper explores the low levels of political participation by women in the country and activities undertaken by women’s organizations to improve these. Political gender quotas were first introduced in South Korea in 2000 and have developed gradually. Women’s movements have played a significant role in introducing and strengthening these quotas. This paper introduces activities for political gender quotas and gender-sensitive political reform. To prepare for future struggle, this paper calls for the need to widen the perspectives of women’s political empowerment and devise new strategies to make effective alliances with other women’s organizations and female politicians. In addition, both women’s organizations and political parties need to make efforts for nurturing young female leaders.

        Urolithiasis is one of the most common urologic diseases in Korea. The annual incidence of urolithiasis in Korea has increased over time. Understanding the epidemiology and risk factors for urolithiasis is essential for patient care and prevention. The purpose of this review was to summarize the recent literature regarding the risk factors for urolithiasis. The available Korean-population-based trials were enrolled in this study. The peak incidence age was the ffth to sixth decades in Korea. There has been a persistent male predominance in the prevalence and incidence of stone disease. The gender gap has continuously narrowed over the world. Climate and seasonal variations, such as temperature and humidity, have a profound effect on the development of urolithiasis. Various dietary factors, including calcium, sodium, animal protein, and oxalate, play an important role in the development of urolithiasis. Dehydration is a wellknown risk factor for stone disease. Many metabolic diseases can affect urolithiasis, including obesity, hypertension, diabetes, gout, and metabolic syndrome. The fast-moving super-aged society and global warming can increase stone disease burden in the near future. To prevent and reduce stone diseases, clinicians should understand the risk factors affecting stone formation.

        하기도감염으로 입원한 소아 환자에서 진단된 크룹의 계절적 변동과 병인: 2009-2017년 장기간 연구

        Purpose: Croup is a common respiratory disease in children. The aim of this study was to analyze the epidemiology, etiology, and seasonal variations of respiratory virus infections in children with croup. Methods: From October 2009 to September 2017, children admitted with croup to Gachon University Gil Medical Center under the age of 18 years were enrolled in this study. We retrospectively reviewed patients’ medical records. Results: A total of 1,053 of 27,330 patients (3.9%) infected with lower respiratory infections were diagnosed as having croup. In the age distribution, croup was most common (50.0%) in children aged 1 to <2 years. There were 2 peaks, the major in summer (July to August) and the minor in spring (March to May). Parainfluenza virus type 1 (15.8%) was most prevalent and coincided with the summer peaks of croup. Influenza virus type B and parainfluenza virus type 3 were the most frequent etiologic agents in a spring peak of croup. Although parainfluenza virus type 1 was predominant of all ages, human coronavirus was a significant cause of croup in children younger than 1 year, whereas influenza virus played an important role in children above the age of 3 years. Conclusion: Seasonality and epidemiology of croup varied with age and regions. Two peaks of seasonal fluctuation were in summer and spring, which were related to the seasonality of respiratory viruses in croup. These results may be helpful in planning clinical and research needs.

      • 개방형 수학적 모델링 과제에서 구조적 교수법 사례 분석

        The purpose of the study was to examine the difference in modeling skills between students who solve modeling problems on their own and those who receive structured guidance from a teacher following the cycle of mathematical modeling. The study found that students who are new to mathematical modeling may struggle to solve problems on their own and may rely on non-mathematical approaches. The study suggests that a structured approach to teaching and learning mathematical modeling is necessary and that students require feedback to develop their knowledge and skills. The study also suggests that heuristic strategies are essential for supporting students' work, but their application in specific situations may be challenging. The role of the teacher is essential in supporting students' activities and helping them understand and apply the cycle and structure of mathematical modeling. The study proposes that providing students with motivated practice and a supportive learning structure is crucial for developing their modeling skills.
