The effect of intake port eccentricity on the characteristics of in-cylinder swirl flow in a 4-valve diesel engine having two intake pons; one is helical port, and the other is tangential port was investigated by steady flow test using the ISM(impulse swirl meter). The swirl ratio(R_5) and mean flow coefficient(C_f(mcan)) with valve lifts and intake port eccentricity were measured. <br/> The characteristics of in-cylinder swirl flow formed by a 4-valve cylinder head were largely affected by a helical intake port. Swirl ratio(R_5) increases linearly as the intake ports close to the cylinder wall in negative Y direction from positive Y direction. In the comparison of the swirl ratio distribution. 4-valve cylinder head used in this experiment shows the same trend as the helical intake port.<br/>
