The underwater electromagnetic signatures of a naval ship are mainly generated from three sources which are the permanent and induced magnetic field in the ship's hull and other ferrous components, the cathodic current electromagnetic field established by the Impressed Current Cathodic Protection(ICCP) system or the Sacrificial Anode and the stray electromagnetic fields generated by onboard equipment. These signatures can be minimized by certain design methods or installation of signature reduction equipment. In this paper, we represented the characteristic of the underwater electromagnetic signature and the signature reduction techniques for a naval ship. Also, we measured the electromagnetic field changes emitted from the real ship using the Electric and Magnetic field Measurement System(EMMS). We found that the underwater electromagnetic signature for a naval ship can be used as input or trigger signal in a surveillance system and an influence mine.

Since 1990, Agency for Defense Development is operating the non-magnetic laboratory for the development of key technology for the underwater magnetic stealth part, the research of the magnetic application weapons and the technical support for Korean Navy. Recently, we installed the new three-axis earth magnetic field simulator and the measurement system in the non-magnetic laboratory which is replacing the existing outdated facility. In this paper, we deal with the detailed design result of the earth magnetic field simulator and the measurement system. Also, we describe the effective method to separate the permanent and the induced magnetic field from the measured data for a scaled model ship using the earth magnetic field simulator and the measurement system.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to describe the details and to assess the clinical evidence of acupuncture and moxibustion for non-specific chronic neck pain. Methods : We searched seven databases including Korean, English, and Chinese databases through July 2016. Studies using acupuncture, moxibustion, pharmacopuncture, electroacupuncture, auricular-acupuncture, acupressure for non-specific chronic neck pain were included. Only controlled clinical trials or randomized clinical trials were assessed. Study design, number of subject, inclusion criteria, intervention, and results were extracted. In addition, details of intervention including needle type, retention time, acupoints were analyzed. Results : Total 64 studies(39 acupuncture, 9 laser, 6 pharmaco-acupuncture, 3 electro-acupuncture, 3 auricular-acupuncture, 3 moxibustion, 1 acupressure) were included. Among 39 acupuncture studies, 35 used acupuncture as sole intervention. Sham treatment was the most common intervention for control group, followed by no intervention. Various outcome including pain, disability, quality of life, range of motion was used as outcome measurement. The effect of acupuncture and moxibustion was different depending on the type of control and outcome measurement. The most commonly used method in acupuncture for neck pain was GB21, SI3, GB20, LI4, BL11 acupoints, 10∼30 mm insertion depth, 20∼30 retention time, and 1∼2 times per week. Conclusions : Analyzing the details of acupuncture and moxibustion treatment could be helpful for researches and clinics. Further studies should consider the characteristics of study design, intervention, and outcome to assess the effect of TKM.

Background: Mahuang (Ephedra sinica STAPF) is well known as an herbal medicine and has been widely used to reduce body weight and increase athletic ability. However, as a result of reporting many cases of adverse effects on the cardiovascular system, use of dietary supplements containing ephedra was prohibited by the FDA. Objectives : The object of this study was to find the effectiveness of ephedra on weight loss without severe adverse effect. Methods : 16 healthy volunteers consisting of an ephedra group (N=8) and a placebo group (N=8) were investigated. Study form was a randomized, controlled, double-blind clinical trial. The ephedra group took 12g of ephedra while the placebo group took 12g of glutinous rice powder. Both groups were measured with BCA (body composition analysis) on weight loss and with HRV (heart rate variability) on its adverse effect before and after medication. Results : The following results were obtained after taking 12g of ephedra for 14 days. In the ephedra group, body weight reduced significantly. In the placebo group, there were no significant differences of body weight between before and after placebo treatment. There was a slight increase of heart beat rate and deactivation of cardiac activity. Parasympathetic nerves were deactivated, but balances of autonomic nervous system were well maintained. Conclusions : The results suggest that ephedra in healthy adults tends to reduce body weight and deactivation of autonomic nervous system and cardiac activity.

Background : Low level laser therapy may be an effective method to protect tissue damage in acute stroke. Recently, series of clinical studies on the basis of animal experiments report efficacy and safety of laser therapy at early stages of acute stroke. Laser promotes mitochondrial ATP synthesis to reduce cell death by ischemic infarction. Objectives : To report possibility of non-invasive laser therapy for acute stroke by reviewing literature about its effectiveness, safety and mechanism. Methods : We searched papers using PubMed and 'Web of Knowledge' of Thomson ISI, using the keywords "Laser Therapy, Low-Level" and "Stroke". Limitations were last 10 years of publications and only in English. Search range includes RCTs, clinical reports, reviews and animal experiments. Papers not matched with inclusion criteria were excluded. Results : A total 223 studies were found, 203 excluded during title and extract screening. After scanning 20 papers the final 2 serial RCTs were selected and analyzed. They reported that transcranial laser therapy led in neuroprotective effect for acute stroke patents. Clinical evaluation factors showed favorable trend and initial safety. Conclusions : Non-invasive laser secured safety of clinical application. It may be a favorable choice for the acute stage of stroke.

This study aimed to point out interactions between grapefruit and antihypertensive agents by reviewing published journal articles. Eight electronic databases were searched to identify literatures. Clinical and experimental studies on grapefruit interaction with antihypertensive drugs were selected by two independent researchers. Data were extracted by synergism/inhibition, relevant substances and mechanisms, and adverse events. Furanocoumarins, cytochrome P450 inhibition were analyzed to check out grapefruit-drug interactions. Fifty nine studies on interactions between grapefruit and 16 drugs were analyzed. Evident interactions were reported among grapefruit and most calcium channel blockers or beta blockers. Reversible inhibition of bergamottin and 6',7'-dihydroxybergamottin on cytochrome P450, P-glycoprotein, organic anion transporting polypeptide were mechanisms of interactions. Age-specific and genetic differences of clinical outcomes and adverse events were observed. Grapefruit interacts with antihypertensive agents and its results could induce negative clinical outcome. Furanocoumarins regulate drug absorption pathway that result citrus-drug interactions. Medical professionals should give information about food-drug interactions to their patients and caregivers.
