The Status and Perspectives of BECCS Technologies

The soaring CO<sub>2</sub> levels in the atmosphere caused by the anthropogenic emissions and the resulting climate changes are the most serious problems facing humanity. To reduce the CO<sub>2</sub> emissions, various CO<sub>2</sub> capture, utilization and storage technologies have been suggested till now. Among them, bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) technologies are considered the most promising CO<sub>2</sub> reduction technology due to its ability to deliver negative emissions by drawing down CO<sub>2</sub>, even including already emitted CO<sub>2</sub>, from the atmosphere through photosynthesis. In this presentation, the basic technological elements, recent developments and potential of BECCS technologies will be comprehensively reviewed with exemplifying practical BECCS facilities. Also, the challenges that limit and/or slow down the deployment of BECCS in real world will be dealt with at the same time. Therefore, this talk will promote the understanding on BECCS technologies as an emerging negative emission technology.
경추 후종인대 골화증의 전방경유 감압술 및 골 융합술후 예후인자에 대한 임상분석

Objective : To investigate the prognostic factors associated with outcome in patients with ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament. Method : During the past 4 years, we have operated on 35 patients with cervical OPLL. Anterior cervical decompression(total or subtotal corpectomy, discectomy, and removal of the OPLL) and interbody fusion with iliac bone were performed in all patients. Results : Eight cases(22.9%) were continuous type, 11(31.4%) segmental, 13(37.1%) Mixed, and 3(8.6%) localized type. Thirty-two patients(91.4%) showed an excellent or good results. Conclusion : These results indicate that surgical treatment should be considerated in case of clinical grading higher than II and the surgical outcome is worse when duration of preoperative symptom is longer and when percentage of spinal narrowing is higher. Anterior cervical decompression and interbody fusion seems to be a better method in patients with lesions limited to one or two level. Age at surgery did not significantly affect the outcom.

호기성 미생물 고정화를 위해 새로 개발한 평판형막 생물 반응기(FMBR)을 개발하여Aspergillus niger (KCTC 1232)로부터의 구연산 생산을 연구하였다. 반응기는 삼단으로 구성되어 있으며 상층부에는 산소 공급을 위한 공기흐름이 있고 주층부에는 미생물이 고정화되어 있으며 하층부에는 배지가 연속적으로 공급된다. 배지의 초기 pH는 구연산 생성에 있어서 중요한 영향을 미치며 pH가 낮을수록 구연산 생산수율이 높았다. 산소원으로 공기와 순수산소를 이용하여 생산성은 각각0.20, 0.40h/Lh에 달하였다. EH한 배지의 공급속도가 높을수록 생산성이 어느 정도 증가함을 알 수 있었다. A flat-type membrane bioreactor(FMBR ) for aerobic whole cell immobilization was developed and its performance for the citric acid production was investigated using Aspergillus niger (KCTC 1232). The reactor consisted of three layers. The top layer contained flowing air for oxygen supply, the middle layer had stationary cells, and the bottom layer had flowing aqueous nutrients. The initial pH of the culture medium played an important role in citric acid production and the lower initial pH of the culture medium resulted in a higher citric acid yield. Under air and pure oxygen aerations the volumetric productivity reached 0.20 and 0.40g/Lh. Furthermore, the productivity improved with the increase of the culture medium feed rate.
