A nonlinear optimization technique is applied for an efficient design of a six-bar linkage type beat-up mechanism for wide looms. The design problem is defined as a function generator design problem. Especially, the desired beat-up curve is defined to have a dwell period and errors between the desired and generated beat-up curves are minimized. Also design constraints are incorporated for practical application. As a result, a great number of satisfactory solutions for both Watt-II type and Stephenson-III six-bar linkages are found.

The purpose of this work is to set up design conditions of picking mechanisms in rapier looms. For this purpose, various kinds of picking mechanisms are surveyed during the study with a special emphasis on what kind of functions are required for a successful picking process and on how these functions are realized in each of the picking mechanism investigated. Based on the observations, two basic functions that must be accomplished by a picking mechanism are identified. Finally, the design conditions are utilized in evaluating the surveyed picking mechanisms with the help of the axiomatic design approach.

A finite element model for the analysis of a beat-up process is investigated. One of the main purposes of the analysis is to find the beat-up force required to obtain a plain weave of some given density. The proposed weave model includes one warp and two of the most recently inserted wefts. The warp is considered to be elastic while the wefts are assumed to be rigid in the present model. We applied our method to interpret the possible reason of a special type of abnormal structure frequently found in weaving practices, where uneven pickspacing repeats itself periodically. Results from sample calculations suggest a possibility that the special type of the uneven pickspacings can happen even under perfect machine conditions.

본 연구에서는 실제적인 평형스프링을 비교적 단순한 계산에 의해 설계할 수 있는 방법의 하나로서, 선형스프링의 근사법을 제시하였으며, 이 근사법을 4절 기구의 입력토오크 특성의 향상문제에 적용하여 유용한 결과가 얻어짐을 보였다. An efficient method for designing balancing springs to be used for dynamic balancing of planar mechanisms was studied. In spite of its wide application in the field of balancing problems such as balancing of input torques, clearance effects etc., there have been few efficient ways of determining the specifications of the balancing springs. To improve this problem, a method of approximating the characteristic of linear springs was suggested and its validity was checked through an analysis of errors. Further, through an example of a balancing problem to reduce the fluctuation of input torques of a 4bar mechanism, it was shown that the proposed method of approximation simplifies the design equations and a satisfactory result can be found efficiently.

The method of utilizing sensitivity linkages for the analysis of mechanical errors are proposed. As sources of the mechanical error, tolerances in the link length and clearances in thejoints are considered. It is demonstrated that the problem of calculating mechanical errors of a 4-bar mechanism can be transformed into a problem of conventeional velocity analysis of a sensitivity linkage. As a result of the present study, it is found and proved that the mechanical error of the output angle in the 4-Bar mechaism is represented as a simple harmonic function with respect to the relative position of the pin on the clearance circle. Also the vector representing the mechanical error of a coupler point makes, in general, an ellipse as the relative angle varies on the clearance circle. With these results we can better identify the characteristic of the mechanical errors in linkages.
