During a survey of sand-burrowing amphipods, a phoxocephalid species, Parametaphoxus asiaensis (Hirayama, 1992), was found on the tidal flat of Yellow Sea and Jeju Island, Korea. The genus Parametaphoxus is reported for the first time in the Korean fauna. In this paper, we describe and illustrate the species, P. asiaensis of the family Phoxocephalidae in detail.

Two ampithoid species, Ampithoe lacertosa Bate and A. tarasovi Bulycheva, are redescribed. A. tarasovi has been misidentified as A. lacertosa in Korea. A. tarasovi can be distinguished from A. lacertosa in having the following characteristics: the apical and medial lobes of outer lobe are separated in the lower lip, the carpus of male gnathopod 1 is about 1.4 times as long as the propodus, the palm of male gnathopod 2 has a sloped quadrate hump and a posterodistal tooth, the peduncle of uropod 3 is approximately 2 times as long as the rami, and the length of the carpus is longer than that of the propodus of female gnathopod 1. This study provides detailed descriptions and figures for both species. A. tarasovi is reported for the first time as a member of the Korean fauna.
A New Record of Melita bingoensis (Crustacea: Amphipoda: Melitidae) from Korea
신명화,김원 한국동물분류학회 2011 Animal Systematics, Evolution and Diversity Vol.27 No.2
A melitid species, Melita bingoensis Yamato, 1987 collected from the Yellow Sea, is reported for the first time in Korea. This species has a slit-like pocket in coxa 6 of female, which is not found in other Korean melitid amphipods. In this paper, we compared this species with three other previously known Korean species in the same genus.
First Record of a Hyalid Species, Protohyale pumila (Crustacea: Amphipoda: Hyalidae), from Korea
신명화,김원 한국동물분류학회 2012 Animal Systematics, Evolution and Diversity Vol.28 No.4
A hyalid amphipod, Protohyale pumila (Hiwatari and Kajihara, 1981), collected from Jeju Island is reported for the first time in the Korean fauna. The species is characterized by the presence of a short apical spine on the palp article 4 of maxilliped, a distinctly large and blunt cusp on the propodus of male gnathopod 1, and a distal truncate process on the palm of male gnathopod 2. Herein, the present species is described and illustrated. Korean hyalid amphipods now are composed of four species belonging to three genera. Voucher specimens were deposited in the Marine Arthropod Depository Bank of Korea, Seoul National University.

The purpose of this paper is to examine Gary Snyder’s bioregionalism and reinhabitation movement in the Turtle Island, an original name of North America named by native Americans. Bioregionalism is to apprehend a certain area in terms of its animals, plants, geographic boundary, and watersheds. It is also to practice reinhabitating the place in terms of bioregional conditions. Reinhabitation is to dedicate ourselves to and steward the earth and the place. It means human and nonhuman, nature co-existing equally in the ideal life-community. Reinhabitating Turtle Island is to be a “born-again native of Turtle Island”. By learning the “Old Ways” of native Americans, people who reinhabitate the place become the members of the place, and become the members of the community. Being the member of the community is having the sense of “nativeness” of belonging to the place. Snyder wants to pass down the ways to reside in Turtle Island and desires next generations to continue dwelling in Turtle Island. Snyder tries to realize ecocentric egalitarianism in the ideal life-community where human and nature co-exist. Snyder also tries to practice the view of ecological democracy that nature should be given the due right as an equal member of the Earth, life-community.
New Report of Three Xanthid Crabs (Crustacea: Decapoda: Xanthidae) from Korea
이상규,신명화,박태서,김원 한국동물분류학회 2012 Animal Systematics, Evolution and Diversity Vol.28 No.2
Many members of xanthid crabs have the black coloured fingers and are found easily in the intertidal or subtidal zone. Three xanthids, Danielea noelensis (Ward, 1934), Etisus anaglyptus H. Milne Edwards, 1834, and Gaillardiellus rueppelli (Krauss, 1843), are newly reported from Korean waters as a result of continuous taxonomic studies on crabs. Of these, the present specimen of D. noelensis has rather projecting angle on the antero-external border of the merus of the third maxilliped differed from that of the original description. The genus Danielea Ng and Clark, 2003 and the genus Etisus H. Milne Edwards, 1834 are also reported first time from Korean fauna. Their descriptions are provided with illustrations. Korean Xanthoidea now consists of 28 species belonging to 24 genera.
