The purpose of this study is to analyze the socio-demographic factors that may affect academic achievements of high school students. For this purpose, questionnaires were distributed to 542 students of 6 high schools located in Chungcheongnam-do Province and Daejeon Metropolitan City. Frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were conducted to process the data collected from the subjects. The major outcomes from the analyses could be summed up as follows: First, the comparative analysis of difference in academic achievements according to socio-demographic features showed a statistically significant difference in school grade, religion, health, economic status, timing of smart phone use and hours of using smart phone daily. Second, such factors as health, economic status, timing of smart phone use and hours of using smart phone daily were found to affect academic achievements of the students significantly. Based on the outcomes of the study as above, discussions were made here to find realistic and political intervention measures to increase academic achievements of high school students.
청소년기 스마트폰 이용동기가 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향: 자기효능감의 매개효과

본 연구는 청소년기 스마트폰 이용동기가 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향과 자기효능감을 매개하여 학교생활적응에 영향을 미치는지를 분석하고자 하였다. 연구의 대상은 충남 및 대전에 소재한 고등학교를 다니는 청소년 659명을 대상으로 하였으며, 다중회귀분석으로 분석하였다. 연구의 주요결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 청소년기 스마트폰 이용동기는 학교생활적응에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 스마트폰 이용동기의 하위요인별로 살펴보면 정보추구동기, 편익추구동기는 학교생활적응에 정적(+)인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 오락추구동기는 학교생활적응에 부적(-)인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 청소년기 스마트폰 이용동기는 자기효능감에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 스마트폰 이용동기의 하위요인별로 살펴보면 정보추구동기, 관계추구동기는 자기효능감에 정적(+)인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 오락추구동기는 자기효능감에 부적(-)인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 자기효능감은 학교생활적응에 정적(+)인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 청소년기 스마트폰 이용동기는 자기효능감을 매개로 학교생활적응에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 스마트폰 이용동기의 하위요인별로 살펴보면 정보추구동기만이 자기효능감을 매개하여 학교생활적응에 정적(+)인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 자기효능감은 스마트폰 이용동기 중 정보추구동기와 학교생활적응간의 관계에서 부분매개효과를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 청소년을 위한 스마트폰 이용방법 및 정신건강 증진과 학교생활적응 향상을 위한 실천적 개입 방안에 대해 논의하였다. The present study is aimed at analyzing the effects of adolescents' motivation for use of smart phone on their adaptation to school life and the mediating effects of self-efficacy to this end. For this aim, a multiple regression analysis was conducted to 659 adolescents who were selected from among the students enrolled in high schools in Chungnam Province and Daejeon Metropolitan City. The major outcomes of the study could be summed up as follows: First, the motivation for use of smart phone was found to influence the adaptation of adolescents to school life. As sub-factors of such motivation, the pursuits of information and convenience affected their adaptation to school life positively (+), while the pursuit of entertainment turned out to have negative (-) impact on their adaptation to school life. Second, the analysis showed that the adolescents' motivation for use of smart phone exercised certain influence upon their self-efficacy. In terms of sub-factors, the pursuits of information and relationship had positive (+) influence upon self-efficacy whereas, however, the pursuit of entertainment turned out to have negative (-) impact. Third, self-efficacy could exercise positive (+) effects upon the adaptation of adolescents to school life, according to the analysis. Fourth, the adolescents' motivation for use of smart phone influenced their adaptation to school life by means of self-efficacy as a mediator. With regard to sub-factors of such motivation, the pursuit of information only influenced the adaptation to school life by means of self-efficacy as a mediator. From the analysis, it was learned that self-efficacy might perform a partial mediating effect in the relationship between the motivation for pursuit of information and adaptation to school life out of motivations for use of smart phone. On the basis of the above outcomes, it was discussed in this paper to work out practical intervention measures to promote mental health of adolescents as well as to improve their adaptation to school life and to help them change their way of using smart phone.
