When an optical fiber is connected to the machinery, a ferrule is used to set the optical axes of an optical fiber very precisely. Therefore, it is required high dimensional precision, lack of defect and high expectations. Up to now the optical instrument has been used for the shape flaw inspection of the ferrule. But in this paper we examined the detectable defect and expectation by using the Resonant Ultrasound Spectroscopy (RUS). By making use of the principle of RUS, we made a new measurement system (RUS System). The RUS System is the measurement which is to excite specimen and to inspect the difference of natural frequency pattern between acceptable specimen and specimen which has some defects. Through the experiment we analyzed the difference of natural frequency pattem of these specimens and we chose the available mode in the plant. To verify the data obtained from the experiment, we carried out the simulation from the explicit finite elements code, Nastran. And we compared the results in the experiment with those in the simulation.<br/>

Automobiles should be designed to meet the requirements and standards for the protections of passengers in a car accident. One of safety factors is an absorbing capacity in collision. Many automobile have been designed based on the criterion of the absorbing capacity. Therefore a controller has been developed in order to control and increase the absorbing capacity of impact energy in automobile collision.<br/> Aluminum alloy(AI) square tubes are tested by axial loading. The energy absorbing capacity of AI tubes have been estimated in cases of with-controller and without-controller, respectively based on height, thickness of an controller.

In this paper, For nondestructive evaluation of Ferrule and Ball lens, we made of the measuring system by RUS. We evaluated existence of flaws through comparison with resonant frequency of Ferrule and Ball lens. The objective of the paper is to evaluate defect and shape error by using nondestructive evaluation method with Resonant Ultrasound Spectroscopy(RUS). RUS system is configured of spectrum analyzer, power amplifier, PZT sensor and support frame. For defect evaluation by the RUS, we performed to measure natural frequency of Ferrule, both acceptable and cracked. In the Ball lens, we performed to investigate relationship between frequency measuring parameter(β) and mass of each specimens. And then, in the case of Ferrule, the resonant frequency of cracked-Ferrule existed to the high level frequency band than acceptable-Ferrule. p increase as the mass increase.
