The purpose of this study is to investigate quality evaluation of Shale to apply for unsaturated polyester mortar as crushed sand. In general, the Shale is not used as the aggregate for concrete because of the chemical unstability. Therefore. it is needed to chemical treatments or applications of a high molecular substance. In this study, Black Shale(BS). Red Shale(RS), Gray Shale(GS) is compared with river sand for the characteristics of qualities and strength. The result of study is as follows. It is possible that crushed sand could be used as fine aggregate of UPE mortar as quality for crushed sand is proper to the KS standard. The strength of UPE mortar used crushed sand as aggregate is higher than that of river sand.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the properties of unsaturated polyester mortar according to kinds of crushed sand. we analyzed the properties of strength and fracture of UPE mortar using crushed sands (Which are made from granite, sedimentary rock and recycled concrete in laboratory and are being used by corporation) and river sands. From the experimental results, the strengths and the fracture energy of UPE mortar using crushed sand are higher than those using river sand in the same fineness modulus except recycled concrete.
