        An Analysis of Military ATCs’ Perceptions on English Proficiency Test for Aviation

        One year has already passed since the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) language proficiency requirements (LPRs) test was implemented in Korea. The purpose of this study was to investigate the military air traffic controllers’ (ATCs)perceptions and their needs on English Proficiency Test for Aviation (EPTA) test. To do that, the results were compared with civilian ATCs’ perceptions which were analyzed by Shin and Kim (2005). A total of 60 active duty Air Force ATCs participated in the survey process. The questionnaire was composed of 27 items including 23 multiple choice and 4 open-ended questions. All results were discussed in the following categories: general perception of the EPTA, specific needs for military ATCs and test preparations. The results showed that gaps still exist among ICAO LPRs, the current EPTA test, and military ATCs’ specific needs. It was suggested that,to make more customized aviation English tests in the Korean ESP field as well as to meet the ICAO LPRs, it is necessary for all relevant governmental organizations,language test groups, and test experts to continuously pay attention to test-takers’practical and specific needs.

        Ahcyl2 upregulates NBCe1-B via multiple serine residues of the PEST domain-mediated association

        Inositol-1,4,5-triphosphate [IP3] receptors binding protein released with IP3 (IRBIT) was previously reported as an activator of NBCe1-B. Recent studies have characterized IRBIT homologue S-Adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase-like 2 (AHCYL2). AHCYL2 is highly homologous to IRBIT (88%) and heteromerizes with IRBIT. The two important domains in the N-terminus of AHCYL2 are a PEST domain and a coiledcoil domain which are highly comparable to those in IRBIT. Therefore, in this study, we tried to identify the role of those domains in mouse AHCYL2 (Ahcyl2), and we succeeded in identifying PEST domain of Ahcyl2 as a regulation region for NBCe1-B activity. Site directed mutagenesis and coimmunoprecipitation assay showed that NBCe1-B binds to the N-terminal Ahcyl2-PEST domain, and its binding is determined by the phosphorylation of 4 critical serine residues (Ser151, Ser154, Ser157, and Ser160) in Ahcyl2 PEST domain. Also we revealed that 4 critical serine residues in Ahcyl2 PEST domain are indispensable for the activation of NBCe1-B using measurement of intracellular pH experiment. Thus, these results suggested that the NBCe1-B is interacted with 4 critical serine residues in Ahcyl2 PEST domain, which play an important role in intracellular pH regulation through NBCe1-B.

        속경형시멘트의 수화거동에서 폴리머의 영향

        The properties of the polymer-modified mortars are influenced by the polymer film, cement hydrates and the combined structure between the organic and inorganic phases. Also, this quality of polymer modified cement strongly depend on weather condition. To overcome this problem, polymer-modified cement based on rapid setting cement mortars were prepared by varying polymer/cement mass ratio (P/C) with a constant water/cement mass ratio of 0.5. The effect of polymer on the hydration of this polymer cement is studied on different curing temperature. The results showed that the polymer mortar which is modified with rapid setting cement have superior physical strength properties on independent curing temperature. In addition the P/C ratio, the compressive strength, flexural strength, tensile strength and adhesion strength of mortar is enhances and polymer-modified cement based on rapid setting cement is more beneficial to the improvement of the mortar properties in jobsite.

        A Study on the Current Situation of English Education for Military Aviation Personnel

        The purpose of this study is to present the current English education programs available in the Republic of Korea Air Force, identify any potential problems, and suggest improvements to develop a customized ESP aviation English course. A total of 39 students (15 pilots and 24 air traffic controllers) and three English teachers of the school participated in the study. The data sources in this study included two class observations, a survey questionnaire, and personal interviews with three English teachers. The questionnaire given to the students composed of 14 items, and four interview questions were given to the three English teachers. The findings were discussed in the following categories: general perceptions of the course, specific job-related needs, and suggestions for the program’s improvement. The study identified some challenges for implementing an appropriate aviation English program related with their jobs and suggests learners’ job-related needs should be emphasized and accommodated in the military aviation English course’s curriculum development.

        연속된 두 검체의 비타민 D분류 상태의 변화에 따른 혈청 부갑상선호르몬과 골대사 산물의 변화

        배경: 비타민 D는 장에서 칼슘을 흡수하여 혈중 농도를 증가시키는 역할을 한다. 비타민 D의 혈중 감소는 부갑상선호르몬(parathyroid hormone, PTH)을 증가시키고 골대사와 관련된 골합성 대 사산물, 골파괴 대사물질의 혈중 농도를 증가시킨다. 일반적으로 비타민 D 혈중 상태는 25(OH) vitamin D (25(OH)VD)의 혈중 농도에 따라 뼈 건강 유지를 위한 기준인 부족증, 연조직 질환의 예방을 위한 불충분증과 적정상태의 3가지 상태로 분류한다. 우리는 같은 사람에서 2회 측정한 검사 결과에서 비타민 D 혈중 상태의 변화에 따른 혈청 PTH와 골대사산물의 변화를 관찰하였다. 방법: 6개월 이상 간격을 두고 혈청 PTH, osteocalcin (OST), carboxyterminal-telopeptide of type I collagen (CTX)과 25(OH)VD를 2회 측정한 857명의 환자에서 비타민 D 혈중 상태의 변화에 따른 PTH, OST, CTX의 차이를 각각 쌍을 이룬 t 검정으로 비교하였다. 비타민 D 혈중 상태는 25(OH)VD 농도 30 ng/mL은 적정 상태로 분류하였다. 결과: 비타민 D 혈중 상태의 변화가 없는 군에서는 PTH, OST, CTX는 통계적으로 유의한 농도 변화는 없었다. 부족과 불충분에서 적정 상태로 비타민 D 혈중 상태가 호전된 군에서는 PTH, OST, CTX는 통계적으로 유의하게 감소하였다. 그러나 적정에서 불충분으로 비타민 D 혈중 상태가 악화된 군에서는 PTH, OST, CTX는 통계적으로 유의한 농도 변화를 보이지 않았다. 결론: 비타민 D의 상태가 “부족”에서 뿐 아니라 “불충분”에서 “적정”으로의 변화를 보일 때도 골 대사에 대한 영향을 주므로 불충분 상태보다 적정 상태를 유지하는 것이 다른 연조직 질환의 예방 뿐 아니라 골건강에도 도움을 줄 것으로 생각되었다.

      • 폴리머시멘트를 이용한 온돌마루판 접착제의 부착특성에 관한 연구

        Various kinds of adhesives have been developed and used for adhesion of flooring material, which is made of wood, PVC and ceramic tiles, etc. However, the materials for the adhesion of this wood flooring material are generally selected on the basis of the experiences of engineers, and the properties of those materials are different with cement based substrate during wet and drying condition in building or house. It's means that ordinary epoxy bond are occur the serious small on the jopsite and have defaults of durability as a adhesives for wet condition. The purpose of this study is to develop the adhesives based polymer cement using the redispersible powder polymer and checking the adhesion properties of each polymer cement ratio. Also, effect of hydration reaction of cement modified polymer are observed by SEM and XRD.
