In the 1970s, the so-called “Way of the Hwa’rang figures” of Shilla(“花郞道”) was significantly emphasized in history education. We can see such examples from a reading material entitled Ordeals and Overcoming produced for middle and high school classes, from an establishment named the “Hwa’rang’s House,” and even from a bronze statue of a Hwa’rang figure mounting a horse. We can see the concept was being heavily promoted at the time. And behind all the promotion of the Shilla Hwa’rang figures, there was an individual named Yi Seon-geun. Shilla Hwa’rang is actually a subject that could be discussed from any number of angles. Yet in the modern period of Korea, it was usually perceived as a historical figure representing the “Warrior’s code(武士道).” Shin Chae-ho believed it was a concept that had been embedded in the Korean traditions all along. After the liberation, the aforementioned Yi Seon-geun presented his argument concerning the importance of Hwa’rang-do(花郞道), which was very much of an extension of Shin Chae-ho’s thoughts and point of view. The alleged importance of the Hwa’rang-do concept suggested by Yi Seon-geun helped form the Daehan Youth Corps and the Youth Guards of the nation, as his input was apparently appreciated as an ideological platform. The image of the Hwa’rang figures, which was based upon the idea of warriors’ giving up their lives for the state, justified the government’s mobilization of young boys and its sending of them to battlefields. From early on, Yi Seon-geun had a relationship with the Park Jeong-hi regime, and even had some influences upon Park’s own historical view. Yi’s theoretical contributions enabled the state to maintain a certain stance. He also had an instrumental role in shaping the Korean history education program of the 1970s. His point of view and perception of history is well reflected in the aforementioned Ordeals and Overcoming. This reading material, particularly the foreword and other chapters reflect the position of the government, but the Hwa’rang-do portion is almost a direct lift from what Yi Seon-geun had said and written on the subject over the years. Ordeals and Overcoming was distributed to schools until 1978. It had a certain level of influence upon the students. It was included in the 1979 textbook, and continued to affect the students. Later, the Hwa’rang-do section was dropped from textbooks, but while it was in the textbooks, it managed to have an impact upon many. Myself, who received elementary education in the 1980s, would be no exception.

제13차 아시아 품질 심포지엄이 지난 10월 22일부터 2일간 일본의 오사카 공대에서 한국, 일본, 대만 등 동아시아의 품질학자 3백여명이 참석한 가운데 열렸다. '아시아의 품질 우월성'이란 주제로 35편의 논문이 발표되었는데 특히 치열해지는 대륙간 품질경쟁에서 살아남기 위해 아시아권 국가가 상부상조해야 한다는 공감대를 이끌어낸 것은 이번 대회의 큰 수확이었다. 다음 회의는 2000년 11월 초에 대만 타이페이에서 열기로 했다.
신호세기를 이용한 2차원 레이저 스캐너 기반 노면표시 분류 기법

With the development of autonomous vehicle, there has been active research on advanced driver assistance system for road marking detection using vision sensor and 3D Laser scanner. However, vision sensor has the weak points that detection is difficult in situations involving severe illumination variance, such as at night, inside a tunnel or in a shaded area; and that processing time is long because of a large amount of data from both vision sensor and 3D Laser scanner. Accordingly, this paper proposes a road marking detection and classification method using single 2D Laser scanner. This method road marking detection and classification based on accumulation distance data and intensity data acquired through 2D Laser scanner. Experiments using a real autonomous vehicle in a real environment showed that calculation time decreased in comparison with 3D Laser scanner-based method, thus demonstrating the possibility of road marking type classification using single 2D Laser scanner.
가변 람다값을 이용한 EWC에서의 치명적 망각현상 개선

본 논문에서는 인공 신경망이 과거 학습 데이터의 정보를 망각하는 치명적 망각(Catastrophic Forgetting) 현상을 개선하기 위해, 학습할 데이터에 따라서 가변적으로 정규화 강도를 조절하는 방법을 제안한다. 이를 위하여 과거에 학습된 데이터와 현재 학습할 데이터들의 관계를 측정하는 방법을 사용하였다. 성능 평가를 위해 MNIST, EMNIST 데이터를 사용하였다. 3가지 시나리오에서 실험한 결과, 같은 도메인을 갖는 데이터의 경우, 이전 태스크의 정확도가 0.1~3%, 다른 도메인을 갖는 데이터의 경우 이전 태스크(Task)의 정확도가 10~13% 향상 시킬 수 있었다. 이는 본 논문의 방법으로, 도메인이 다른 경우, 망각률이 줄어든 것을 의미한다. 다양한 도메인을 가진 데이터를 연속적으로 학습할 경우, 이전 태스크들의 정확도가 모두 50% 이상을 달성하였고 평균 정확도가 약 7% 향상되었다. This paper proposes a method to mitigate the Catastrophic Forgetting phenomenon in which artificial neural networks forget information on previous data. This method adjusts the Regularization strength by measuring the relationship between previous data and present data. MNIST and EMNIST data were used for performance evaluation and experimented in three scenarios. The experiment results showed a 0.1~3% improvement in the accuracy of the previous task for the same domain data and a 10~13% improvement in the accuracy of the previous task for different domain data. When continuously learning data with various domains, the accuracy of all previous tasks achieved more than 50% and the average accuracy improved by about 7%. This result shows that neural network learning can be properly performed in a CL environment in which data of different domains are successively entered by the method of this paper.
Adsorption of 2-Cyanonaphthalene on Silver Sol Investigated by Raman Spectroscopy$^\dag$

Surface-enhanced Raman (SER) scattering of 2-cyanonaphthalene (2-CN) has been investigated in silver sol. Addition of halide ions was needed to obtain authentic SER spectra of the molecule. The SER spectra thus obtained exhibited a slight but noticeable dependence on the kind of halide ions used. This halide-dependent spectral variation was attributed to the orientational change of molecule on silver sol surface. A possible mechanism for such an orientational change is proposed in terms of the competitive adsorption of 2-CN with halide ions on the so-called halide-specific sites.
