        Scale Formation in the Concentrate Compartment of an Electrodialysis Stack During Desalination of Brackish Water

        전기투석 공정에서 이온교환막 표면에 형성되는 스케일 영향을 조사하기 위해 장기간 동안 운전되었다. 탈염공정 동안, $Ca^{2+}$과 $SO_4^{2-}$ 이온의 농도는 농축실에서 연속적으로 증가하였으며 양이온교환막(Neosepta CMX)표면에 침전이 발생하였다. 초기 스케일 형성동안, 공정성능과 막 특성의 변화는 농축실 염농도 증가에 기인하여 일어나는 양이온교환막의 하계전류밀도가 감소하는 것을 제외하곤 미미하였다. 공정운전이 진행됨에 따라 양이온교환막의 한계전류밀도는 물의 해리 현상이 진행되어 $300\;A/m^2$까지 감소하였다. 막 오염은 농축실에서 양이온교환막 표면에 형성된 스케일과 물의 해리현상에 의해 유발된다는 결론을 얻었으며, 이러한 스케일 형성은 $CaSO_4$의 용해도에 의해 예측 가능한 것을 알 수 있었다. An electrodialysis process was operated for a long period to investigate the scale formation on the membrane surface. During the desalination process, concentration of $Ca^{2+}$ and $SO_4^{2-}$ ions increased continuously in the concentrate compartment and eventually caused precipitation on the cation exchange membrane (Neosepta CMX) surface. During the initial scale formation, the performance of the process and membrane characteristics did not show significant changes, except the decrease in limiting current density of the CMX membrane occurring due to increase in the salt concentration in the concentrate compartment. Eventually, the limiting current density of the fouled CMX membrane dropped significantly to $300\;A/m^2$ as water dissociation occurred in the CMX membrane. It was concluded that the fouling was caused mainly by the scale formation on the cation exchange membrane surface in the concentrate and consequent water dissociation. Also the scale formation was reasonably predicted by the solubility of $CaSO_4$.

        부산 지역 여드름 환자의 보완대체의학 이용 실태에 관한 설문 조사 연구

        Background: There is growing interest in the role of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in treating patients with acne owing to an inadequate treatment response or adverse effects associated with use of conventional modalities to treat this skin condition. However, there is no literature available or reports of studies performed in Korea describing use of CAM in treatment of acne. Objective: To assess the usage and awareness regarding the role of CAM in the treatment of acne, among acne patients. Methods: A questionnaire was used to interview 159 patients with acne regarding their use of CAM for the treatment of acne. This survey was conducted in 1 tertiary medical center, 1 general hospital, and 2 dermatology clinics. Results: We found that 139 of 159 (87.4%) acne patients reported previous or current use of CAM. Among the 139 CAM users, acne-related cosmetics (71.2%) was the most frequently used category of products, followed by dietary therapy (58.3%), cleansing techniques, and a bath regimen (55.4%). Reportedly, the `Internet` (62.6%) was the most common medium used as a source of information regarding use of CAM. The most common reason for using CAM was reported as the `desire to try everything` (40.3%). Adverse effects related to the use of CAM were reported in 27 (19.4%) patients. The most common type of adverse effect reported was `aggravation of acne`. A majority of patients were not favorable for subjective therapeutic effect and satisfaction with CAM (60.0% and 84.2%, respectively). Conclusion: Our results indicate that a majority of acne patients use CAM with or without conventional treatment. Nonetheless, there is no study or evidence to prove the effectiveness of CAM in acne patients. Therefore, it is important for dermatologists to be aware of the risks and adverse effects associated with use of CAM for effective management of patients who consult them for treatment of acne.         The hyperimmunoglobulinemia E (Jobs) syndrome (HIES) is characterized by marked elevated levels of IgE, recurrent cutaneous and systemic staphylococcal infections, atopic-like dermatitis, and defective neutrophil chemotaxis. Three cases of HIES have been reported in Korea, but not in the dermatology literature. We report a case of HIES with cutaneous infections and MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus). A 15-month-old girl presented with intractable pruritic excoriated papular pustular skin lesions and multiple subcutaneous abscesses. Surgical drainage of the abscesses and a course of antibiotic treatment in addition to topical steroids for about 7 weeks resulted in a remarkable improvement.         우리나라 소아 알레르기비염 환자에서 호기산화질소의 측정

        Purpose: Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) is useful for the diagnosis of allergic rhinitis (AR) as well as bronchial asthma (BA). However, FeNO may differ according to race, age, and other determinants. There have been few studies about FeNO in Korean children with AR. The aims of this study were to evaluate the value of FeNO in AR and to compare FeNO, and determinants of FeNO levels between AR, BA, and combined AR and BA. Methods: This study included 647 children aged 5 to 17. The children were classified into 5 groups after performing the skin test, FeNO measurement, the pulmonary function test, and the methacholine challenge test: those with nonallergic rhinitis (NAR), those with AR, those with BA, and those with combined AR and BA, and healthy controls,. Results: The values of FEV1 (forced expiratory volume in one second) %predicted were 94.4%±12.6%, 93.8%±20.7%, 90.0%±17.4% in AR, BA, and combined AR and BA, respectively. The values of FeNO in AR (32.3±25.0 ppb), BA (31.1±20.5 ppb), and combined AR and BA (34.5±30.4 ppb) were significantly higher compared to those of NAR (16.8±13.5 ppb) and controls (15.9±12.5 ppb). There was no significant difference in FeNO among AR, BA, and combined AR and BA. FeNO was significantly higher in patients with ≥4 positive results (36.6±29.2 ppb) than in those with <4 positive skin test results (27.6±20.7 ppb). When the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis for prediction of AR showed 0.756 of area under the curve, the cutoff level of FeNO was 16 ppb. Conclusion: In this study, children with AR had increased levels of FeNO. It is suggested that AR may have eosinophilic bronchial inflammation without BHR or clinical asthma.         국제전기통신연합(ITU)의 보고에 따르면, 전 세계 인터넷 사용자수가 지난 5년간 2배로 증가하여 올해 말까지 인터넷 사용자수가 20억명이 넘을 것이란 전망이 나왔다. 현재 기업들은 인터넷을 기반으로 하여 상품과 서비스를 제공하기 시작해 본격적으로 인터넷으로 서비스를 제공하고 그 기반을 다지고 있다. 이에 현재 오프라인 중심 기업들의 온라인화는 많은 사람들의 관심거리일 밖에 없는 현실이다. 따라서 국내 기업들은 제한된 자원을 가지고 다양한 고객의 니즈(Needs)를 효율적으로 만족시켜 줄 수 있는 고객 가치 개선을 위한 노력을 해야 한다. 특히 포장디자인은 제품과 사용자간의 연결고리의 역할을 수행한 것처럼 현재까지 디자인의 발전을 총화하여 웹에 수용함으로써, 웹상에서 활발한 커뮤니케이션이 이루어질 수 있도록 하는 역할을 실천해야 한다. 또한 인터넷 마케팅에서의 디자인 측면은 사용자들의 홈페이지에서 머물고자 하는데 빠른 이동 판단으로 인하여, 사용자들의 시각적 흥미를 끌어야 할 필요성으로 텍스트적 요인보다도 오히려 중요한 요소로 인식되고 있기 때문에 디자이너들은 이러한 급속한 변화의 물결에 맞서기 위해 브랜드(Brand), 컬러(Color), 레이아웃(Layout), 일러스트(Illustration) 등 다양한 형태의 웹에서의 포장디자인 방식을 모색해 나가야 한다. According to the reports of International Telecommunication Unit (ITU), the number of internet users around the world has doubles in the past 5 years and it predicts that the internet user number will be over 2 billion by the end of this year. Currently, many companies have began to provide products and services based on the internet and are gaining their ground in providing services through the internet in an earnest matter. The reality is that this online phenomenon of the offline centered companies only can become the interest of many people. Therefore, domestic companies must work hard in improving customer value which can efficiently meet the needs of the various customers with limited resources. Especially, as packaging design has played the role of a link connecting the products and the users, through accepting the approximation of the development of designs until now, it must achieve playing the role of activating communication on the web. Additionally, the design part of the internet marketing has the need to gain visual attraction of the users because of the fast moving decision of the users on whether to stay on this page, it is being considered an important element rather than the text elements. Therefore, designers must seek out the way of packaging design through various types such as brand, color, layout, illustration, and others in order to meet the wave of rapid change.

        Painted coating is a work to cover the surface of the blocks from the interior and exterior. It is used for raising qualities and values of automobiles. This process makes protection and elegance to the material surfaces. A lot of researches about the composition of aluminum or plastic and the process of making steel sheet materials of automobiles were studied. However painted coating studies were insufficient. It is important that researching about characteristics of the roughness and critical scratch load by the effect of painted coating because the roughness was expected to cause a low effect to the painted coating. In this study, the characteristics of painted coating on polished aluminum sheets with different conditions were investigated to develop the work condition and process of painted coating on aluminum sheet in automobile manufacture line. The results showed the roughness after final painted coating was similar to the first roughness of sheet. The high surface roughness and force of the specimen polished by sandpapers was obtained.

        Since each old house has different insulation performance, it is necessary to accurately measure the insulation performance for an efficient retrofit. In most of the studies, the insulation performance measurement method that is judged to be suitable for the field is the Heat Flow Meter method (ISO 9869) and the Infrared camera method (KS 2829). Both methods are accurate under certain conditions. However, since the environment of the old housing can not be manipulated, errors are inevitable. The purpose of this study is to grasp the errors of each method of measuring the insulation performance that can occur on the site, and to find out which insulation performance measurement method is more suitable for the old housing. As a result, the error of the HFM method (17%) was lager than that of the IR method (4%).
