Human bodies in art been chose as an everlasting subject, since Tou(small clay figures shaped like humans or animals and fired in a kiln) which was ritual and related to prolificness as well as exuberant seizure in the prehistoric age. The human body has been developed with various changes and trends. Furthermore, it has been always keeping in my mind as some inner images. In other words, it will be a myself and the all-time essential existence. Especially, hands are very basic instruments in terms of human activity to make something and we confirhave m our existence through the opportunity and moreover, hands are important media for our mutuality as well as the most usual language. Except that, hands reveal myself behind the usual myself and make me hear about opponent that I can not understand. I have communion by them and also get a pure mind. Hands are not only preventing from an injury and disease, but also keeping homeostasis. We also keep fit by them and we call them 'yak-son' which means a comforting hand. If a face would be an open expression, hands could be a subconscious expression. The meaning of the hands in my thesis may be deep-rooted longing for that we want to trace our mental image to the material icon. I tried to express these hands as noesis for ego and absolute belief. I also tried to present self-reflection as well as sublimation toward an eternal truth. Consequently, I expressed some other ego's recognition in my works. I encapsulated the emotional part of 'hands' as the total of images in my mind. Therefore, I researched their symbolic meaning with general example and then examined the meaning of hands as a way of physiological recognition like as that I.Kant say "A Hand is the brain of outside.". Furthermore, I studied of the symbolic meaning of hands as a way of total knowledge with the various viewpoints. I also studied of the relation between hands and religion according to the formative examples of hands, and the inner relation of human and their hands through the existing artists. Through the way of 'Su-sun(手線), a hand-line, I thought about the meaning of hands, their variety and eternity. I tried tarrive at independent value by their images of hands instead of their partial worth.

The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics that Pyeonghae-ro in Joseon Dynasty mainly based on the description in Ulleung-Do Geom-chal-il-gi. The Ulleung-Do Geom-chal-il-gi is a diary written by Kyu Won Rii in 1882, when he had accomplished his duty as a Royal Proscutor to Ulleung-Do. To to this research, many old literary documents including Jeung-bo-mun-heon-bi-go and old maps were used. Also the field trip along the roads describing in the diary was accomplished to get more information and compare the old route with present road. In summary, the characteristics of Pyeonghae-ro are as follows: First, Pyeonghae-ro was a main route connecting from the west, which is Hannseong, capital of Joseon Dyastyeast, to east, Pyeonghae in Gangwon-do via major administrative towns. It is because Wonju was the Provincial capital of Kangwon-do, Gangneung was the center of Yeongdong region, and Pyeonghae was the most southern located town of Gangwon-do. Second, The connecting major towns in Kangwon Province was regarded as one of most important function of Pyeonghae-ro. The route, therefore, went through upper-class level of towns such as Hanseong, Wonju, Gangneung, Samcheok and so on. Third, Pyeonghae-ro was also used for a military purpose to supply necessary materials to the military camps located in Samcheok and Pyeonghae. Because of this function, the major route of this road was made along seacoast toward the south from Kangneung, although this road had 8 different branch routes. Fourth, Pyeonghae-ro and its branch routes had a great influence to make a network for periodical markets in the late Joseon Dynasty, Especially, it is important route for peddlers and persons carrying cow. Records related to Pyeonghae-ro in Ulleung-Do Geom-chal-il-gi by Kyo Won Rii is a journey from Hanseong to Pyeonghae for April 10-20, 1882 and a journey from Pyeonghae to Hanseong for May 12 -27, in 1882. His journey between Hanseong and Pyeonghae might be regarded as follows: From Hanseong to Pyeonghae, he chose Hanseong-Wonju-Chungju-Danyang-Sunheung-Yeongyang-Pyeonghae route which connected with Gangwon-do, Chungcheong-do and Gyeongsang-do, because Prosecutor Kyu Won Rii knew this region better, the shortest route from Hanseong to Pyeonghae about 680ri(272km), and, therefore, an economically efficient route. On the other hand, he chose the route from Pyeonghae to Hanseong via Samcheok, Gangneung and Wonju. It is because this route is the major route and road condition was better than any other subsidiary routes of Pyeonghae-ro, although this route was 200ri(80km) longer than he took when he came to Pyeonghae. Nine major routes including Pyeonghae-ro in Joseon Dynasty contain precious spirits of our ancestors. These might be regarded as a cultural heritage containing tangible and intangible cultural assets. So these routes should be not only designated as cultural properties, but also conserved and managed as attractions. Finally, this research is expected to contribute further to search, restore and preserve these old routes, and more study on old routes from historical geography.
