Background: The role of uric acid in cerebrovascular disease is controversial. Uric acid may be an independent risk factor for cerebrovascular diseases but its neuroprotective role as an antioxidant has also been suggested. We studied the effects of uric acid on the early prognosis in acute ischemic stroke. Methods: The subjects were 721 patients with moderate-to-severe acute stroke who arrived at hospital within 48 hours from the onset of symptoms. Patients were divided into quartiles based on serum uric acid levels at admission. In-hospital stroke outcome were calculated on the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and analyzed by multivariate logistic regression. Results: Differences in NIHSS scores between baseline and discharge in the patients were not significantly related to serum uric acid levels. However, in large artery atherosclerosis group, the proportion of patients with neurological improvement and differences in NIHSS score between baseline and discharge differed between the quartile uric acid groups (p<0.01 and p=0.04, respectively). A multivariate analysis adjusting for known vascular risk factors showed that a higher uric acid level was associated with a higher probability of a good in-hospital outcome (odds ratio, 1.31 per additional 1 mg/dL; 95% confidence interval, 1.07-1.60 per additional 1 mg/dL), but only in those with large-artery atherosclerosis. Conclusions: Uric acid level is independently correlated with the neurological improvement in patients with acute ischemic stroke caused by large-artery atherosclerosis.

전력계통을 구성하고 있는 수력, 화력, 원자력발전소, 변전소, 개폐소 및 이들을 연결하고 있는 송배전선의 규모가 전력수요의 현저한 증가와 더불어 더욱 거대화, 복잡화됨에 따라, 수용가에 안정한 양질의 전력을 저렴하게 공급하기 위해서는 이들 설비를 보다 합리적, 경제적으로 운용할 필요성이 점차 높아지고 있다. 본고에서는 전력계통의 경제운용을 위해 고려해야 할 기본사항과 일반적인 경제운용계획산법을 간략하게 소개함으로서 전력계통에 관심이 있는 회원제위의 이해를 돕고져 한다.

As water resources are limited and legal regulations are strengthened, there is a growing need to reuse residuals in WTP(Water Treatment Plant). In this study, membrane filtration system was constructed and its operation method was studied for water quality stabilization and reuse of WTP residuals. The operation parameters were stable for 1 year and 6 months. Membrane fouling was identified as particulate pollution (activated carbon) and inorganic pollution (manganese). The membrane system was operated steadily with raw water of high concentration SS(Suspended solid) containing activated carbon because membrane fouling was reduced by the effect of End-Free type. In the case of inorganic contamination, dissolved manganese eluted by chemicals and acted as a membrane fouling source, and the operating conditions for minimizing membrane fouling were confirmed by newly developing application methods and types of cleaning chemicals. Based on the results, design parameters for reducing manganese membrane fouling were derived.
작약 레드참 꽃잎의 이온화원-푸리에 변환 질량분석과 기능성 연구

Little attention has been paid to the functional aspect of the flower petal of Paeonia lactiflora, compared to that of its root. To determine the components of flower petal of Paeonia lactiflora, we conducted the Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) MASS spectrophotometric analysis. We detected the 24 different types of ingredients from the 70% ethanol extracts of flower petal of peonia lactiflora cv. ‘Red Charm’. The main compounds were quercetin glucopyranosides, methyl gallate, paonioflolol and kaemperol glucopyranosides. We further tested its functional activity. The 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity of the extracts was 87.9-90.4% at 0.1mg/ml. This result showed that these flower extracts have approximately 5-fold stronger antioxidant potential than a previous report with root extracts (Bang et al. 1999). The result of tyrosinase inhibition assay of Paeonia lactflora extract was almost similar to that of arbutin except significantly higher effect in the coral sunset extract at 0.1% concentration. Hyaluronidase inhibition assay showed 76.5% inhibition at 5% concentration of this flower extract, indicating that Peaonia lactiflora flower extracts have the major anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and brightening effects. Taken together, these results suggest these three Paeonia lactiflora species extracts might provide the basis to develop a new natural brightening agent.
