This study was designed to estimate particle size distribution of airborne dust by an 8-stage cascade impactor, to compare concentrations of total dust by 37mm closed-face cassette with total dust, thoracic particle mass(TPM), inhalable particle mass(IPM) concentrations by an 8-stage cascade impactor and to estimate concentrations of respirable dust collected by cyclone in manufacturing factories. Total 85 sites in 44 factories were sampled from August 1, 1996 to December 31, 1997. The results were as follows: 1.The geometric mean concentration of total dust collected by 37mm closed-face cassette were 0.27-1.44 mg/㎥. The GM concentrations of total dust by impactor were 0.82-2.85 mg/㎥, of inhalable dust 0.63-2.24 mg/㎥, and of thoracic dust were 0.31-1.40 mg/㎥, respectively. 2.The analysis of particle size distribution showed bimodal patterns for almost all sampling sites studied. Geometric mean(GSD) diameters of the small mode were 0.515(1.577) ㎛ - 3.032(13.698) ㎛, while the large mode were 11.873(2.460) ㎛ - 19.774(2.606) ㎛, respectively. 3.The geometric mean(GSD) concentrations of respirable dust collected by cyclone were 0.08-0.46 mg/㎥. To evaluate health hazards from mineral dusts occurring in manufacturing industries, these results suggest the necessity of promulgating particle size-selective limit values and sampling methods such as IPM, TPM, and RPM.

Two types of numerical modeling techniques were considered for the dynamic response of a structure subjected to a ground acceleration. One technique is based on the equation of motion relative to ground motion, and the other is based on the equation of absolute motion of the structure and the ground. The analytic background of the former is well established while the latter has not yet been extensively verified. The latter is called a large mass method, which allocates an appropriate large mass to the ground so that it causes the ground to move according to a given acceleration time history. In this paper,through the use of a single degree-of-freedom spring-mass system, the equations of motion of the two techniques were analyzed and useful theorems are provided on the large mass method. Using simple examples, the numerical results of the two modeling techniques were compared with analytic solutions. It is shown that the theorems provide a clear insight on the large mass method.

We report a case of aberrant cervical thymus in the left submandibular area of a three-month-old boy. On US scan and MR images, a well-marginated, 4 cm-sized solid mass along the left carotid sheath, anteromedial to the sternocleidomastoidmuscle and inferior to the submandibular gland, was seen. MR signal intensity of the mass showed that it was similar to that of normal thymus in the anterior mediastinum. Although a rare disease, ectopic thymus should be included in the differential diagnosis of cervical masses along the carotid sheath in infants.
C0-continuous isoparametric Timoshenko beam element for rotating

This paper presents a C0-continuous isoparametric finite element for free vibration analysis of a rotating, tapered Timoshenko beam mounted on the periphery of a rotating rigid hub, at a setting angle with the plane of rotation. The finite element has three nodes and two degrees of freedom per node and employs modified shape functions for rotational displacement associated with the shear strain energy to avoid shear locking. To obtain a finite element equation of the generalized eigenvalue problem, Hamilton's principle is applied to kinetic and potential energy expressions of a rotating Timoshenko beam with non-zero setting angle. The numerical solutions for various situations including variations of rotational speed, taper ratio, slenderness ratio, hub radius and setting angle are compared with other numerical results available in the literature whenever possible. The results show that the new 3-noded isoparametric element yields accurate results when compared to other numerical ones.

SLEP (See, Listen, Emotion, Play) 는 시각, 청각, 운동감각을 이용하여 아이들의 감성 발달을 유도하는 시스템으로써 HCI 기술 분야인 감성공학을 기반으로 한 감각놀이 게임이다. 본 게임의 목적은 아이들의 지각능력, 창의력, 표현력, 개성, 능동성을 향상 시키고 풍부한 정서와 감성을 향상 시키는데 목적이 있다. 적외선 센서를 이용하여 터치 인터페이스를 구현하였으며, 8 개의 이미지와 사운드로 운동감각을 통한 시청각 경험을 하도록 하였다. 본 시스템은 아이들에게 시각과 청각의 피드백 및 운동감각을 길러주며 자발적인 움직임을 통해 각각의 신체기능을 익히고 자유롭게 감각기능을 체험 할 수 있는 효과가 있다.

Using the concept of quasi-static decomposition and using three-noded isoparametric locking-freeelement, this article presents a formulation of the finite element method for Timoshenko beam subjectedto spatially different time-dependent motions at supports. To verify the validity of the formulation,three fixed-hinged beams excited by the real seismic motions are examined; one is a slender beam,another is a stocky one, and the other is an intermediate one. The numerical results of time histories ofmotions of the three beams are compared with corresponding analytical solutions. The internal loadssuch as bending moment and shearing force at a specific time are also compared with analytic solutions. These comparisons show good agreements. The comparisons between static components of the internalloads and the corresponding total internal loads show that the static components predominate in thestocky beam, whereas the dynamic components predominate in the slender one. Thus, the total internalloads of the stocky beam, which is governed by static components, can be predicted simply by staticanalysis. Careful numerical experiments indicate that the fundamental frequency of a beam can be usedas a parameter identifying such a stocky beam.
