Changes of the Ultrastructure and $Ca^{2+}$ Distribution after Transient Ischemia and after Reperfusion in the Myocardial Cells of Isolated Perfused Guinea Pig Hearts

Kim, Yong-Mun,Kim, Ho-Duk,Rah, Bong-Jin Korean Society of Electron Microscopy 1989 Applied microscopy Vol.19 No.1

It has been debated whether postischemic reperfusion is necessarily beneficial to salvage the myocardium after ischemic insult or not. Therefore, this study was undertaken to compare the ultrastructural changes as well as the distribution of $Ca^{2+}$ in the ventricular myocardial cells after transient ischemia and after postischemic reperfusion, and to suspect to what extent the postischemic reperfusion is beneficial. After 10 minutes of ischemia, the heart developed wide I bands, glycogen depletion, intramyofibrillar edema, mitochondrial swelling, clumping and migration of chromatin, ghosts of lipid droplets, disintegration of cell junctions, sarcolemmal disruption, and loss of $Ca^{2+}$ binding capacity of the sarcolemma and the mitochondria. In spite of reperfusion, in a large number of cells, the ultrastructure was more severely damaged, however, $Ca^{2+}$ binding capacity of the sarcolemma and the mitochondria restored. These results suggest that postischemic reperfusion may help the myocardial cells to restore their function to control $Ca^{2+}$ to a certain extent, but that it could aggravate the ischemic insult.

Vol.18 No.3

Olympic uniforms play an important role in presenting the culture and image of the hosting country. This study aims to design uniform of national teams for the Winter Olympic Games through the use of the characteristics of the image of Korea as a hosting country of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. The research focuses on designing Winter Olympic uniforms through the use of Baeja, Cheollic, the three colors of Taegeuk and quilting in traditional costumes based on literary research on the characteristics and use of the Korean image and an examination on the Winter Olympic Games and uniforms. The scope of the study confines uniforms worn by national teams that are closely related to traditional culture excluding competition uniforms. Throughout the research, it finds that the characteristics of the Korean image expresses based on harmony with the nature and composure which well demonstrates flavor and depth which gives a rather decent, traditional, feminine and conservative senses. The use of Korean image can be divided into shape, color, techniques regarding the shape of Baeja and Cheollic, the three colors of Taegeuk and quilting in traditional costumes used. Ten types of Pyeongchang Winter Olympic uniforms are developed to reflect symbolic, functional and aesthetic characteristics of the uniforms based on the Korean image. The study expects to continue with development of Uniform Design for the Winter Olympic Games by incorporating Dangui, the colors and patterns of Dancheong, patchwork wrapping-cloth and needlework. It also anticipates that designed life-size uniforms will be produced and it can be used as the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic uniforms.

Vol.24 No.4

This study examines the origins and changes of a type of half-sleeve clothes focusing on data such as previous studies, excavated relics, stone carvings, and engravings. The purpose of this study is to reveal the cultural exchange shown in the half-sleeve type clothes by examining the types and characteristics by dividing them into a short-sleeve type of half-sleeve clothes and a detachable sleeve type of half-sleeve clothes. According to literature, there is a record that the Emperor Gaozu of Tang wore the beginning of Banbee with short sleeves in the early 7th century. However, Banbee from the 2nd to 5th centuries were excavated from the Loulan ruins. Based on this, it is presumed that it has been worn since ancient times. The specific form can be estimated from the Banbee, which is stored in Shōsōin. Dapho is a garment derived from the Yun dynasty, and the Dapho of Munsusa and Haeinsa during the Goryeo Dynasty are handed down. In the Mongolian Jami"al-Tawarikh, the king and the servants are dressed in splendid embroidered long coat with tight sleeves, and the side slits open up to the waist. It is presumed that Dapho"s short sleeves have changed as Chikryong or Chulrik"s sleeves have widened. The sleeves were attached and detached using a button and a knot button from the 16th century based on relics from the Joseon Dynasty. The two sleeves detachable type appeared in the 16th century during the Japanese Invasion of Korea, and the one sleeve detachable type appeared in the 16-17th century. Most of the detachable sleeve type had the left sleeve separated for convenience when shooting a bow, and it appeared only in Chulrik in the 16th century, Chulrik in the first half of the 17th century, Jungchimak, Daechangui, Changui, and Chulrik wore as a military uniform in the late 17th century. Half sleeve type clothes were made to be worn with short sleeves by making long sleeves short or with detachable sleeves for active convenience, and both civil servants and military officers appeared. Characteristics such as short sleeves, full-length, back-end, bar, and side slits in the half-sleeve clothing indicate that it is functional clothing designed to be convenient for riding a horse or shooting a bow. Banbee was handed down during the Tang dynasty and Unified Silla eras under the influence of Sogd, and Dapho is a representative half-shoulder type of clothing handed down under the influence of the Yun dynasty.
