A Study on the Improvement of Basic Learning Capabilities. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the effects of the Basic Learning Capabilities Improvement Program (BLCIP) for high school students which has been developed by the Korean Institude for Research in the Behavioral Sciences. Generally, learning capabilities are divided into three kinds; general abilities such as IQ, aptitude, etc, content-bound capabilities such as previous learning, basic learning capabilities such as motivation, attention sets, reading skills, etc. Among the three kinds, however, only the basic learning capability was included in this study. Specifically, the study will involve only three variable such as achievement motivation, study skills and reading skills. The BLCIP consists of three kinds of program; Achievement Motivation Development Program (AMDP), Study Skills Improvement Program (SSIP), and Reading Skills Development Program (RSDP). In order to verify the effects of these programs, tests of achievement motivation, study skills and reading skills were also developed, respectively. The sample of the study was 240 male students amounting to four classes. Incomplete time series quasi experimental design was employed in the study. The amount of time alocated to each program was 17 hours AMDP, 13 hours for SSIP, and 30 hours for RSDP. These programs were presented in the order of AMDP, SSIP, and RSDP. Results of the present study were as the following 1) It was proved that achievement motivation could be enhanced by a deliberate program a certain amount of time. 2) It was proved that study skills could be improved by SSIP. 3) It wastproved that reading speed and reading comprehension could be also dere-loped by SSDP. On the basis of results found in the present study, we concluded that BLCIP had a significant on the improvement of the basic learning capabilities, thus it could be of contribution in helping teachers in the classroom situation of a large number of students who are heterogeneous in the basic learning capabilities.

The purpose of this paper is to define the kinds and the characters of pseudo-syntactic construction. Pseudo-syntactic construction is the same as syntactic construction in form but each element doesn't have individual syntactic function and it's a construction that the elements become a unit and has a syntactic function. Because of this formal and functional character pseudo-syntactic construction has a character that is between syntactic construction and morphologic construction. That is, pseudo-syntactic construction has more syntactic restrictions than syntactic construction but less than morphologic construction. So it becomes morpho-syntactic construction. This pseudo-syntactic construction has idiom, modality-adverb construction and catenative construction. Idiom is the one that has new meaning that can't abstract from the two elements. Modality-adverb construction is the construction that co-occurs particular grammatical features and psychological attitude of the speaker. Catenative construction is a construction which later element is dependent and adds grammatical meaning.
