An educational application (App) called ‘Children`s Food Avatar’ was developed in this study by using a food DB of nutrition and functionality from Rural Development Administration (RDA) as a smart-learning mobile device for elementary school students. This App was designed for the development of children`s desirable dietary habits through an on-line activity of food choices for a meal from food DB of RDA provided as Green Water Mill guide. A customized avatar system was introduced as an element of fun and interactive animation for children which provides nutritional evaluation of selected foods by changing its appearance, facial look, and speech balloon, and consequently providing chances of correcting their food choices for balanced diet. In addition, nutrition information menu was included in the App to help children understand various nutrients, their function and healthy dietary life. When the App was applied to 54 elementary school students for a week in November, 2012, significant increases in the levels of knowledge, attitude and behavior in their diet were observed compared with those of the control group (p < 0.05, 0.01). Both elementary students and teachers showed high levels of satisfaction ranging from 4.30 to 4.89 for the App, therefore, it could be widely used for the dietary education for elementary school students as a smart-learning device. China has been experiencing a series of changes after gradually opening up its society. Such changes have now seeped into almost every sector of the society, leading to overall change. While the political system has been maintained without much change, the structure of life for Chinese has undergone a shift, especially in the sectors related to industry or the economy. The Chinese have adopted capitalism in their own way, leading to fast growth in their industries. Those who were born in the 1980s amidst such change (so-called the post-80s generation) are now playing a major role in Chinese society. Understanding this generation can help understand some of the most important phenomena in today’s China. Therefore the language used by this generation is in particular meaningful as language often reflects the society it is used in. This study focuses on the newly created words arising from the lifestyles of the post-80s generation to better understand how the China’s move towards a more open society over the past three decades have brought about changes. The work culture and consumption styles of the post-80s generation are also showing some collective characteristics. As such, a review of newly created Chinese words related to this generation is expected to increase understanding of the overall Chinese society and Chinese culture of today.
프로바이오틱스 Enterococcus faecium CKDB003의 항생제 내성 및 안전성 평가

In this study, a safety evaluation was conducted to confirm if the Enterococcus faecium CKDB003 strain obtained by selection from a mixed fermentation of fruit and milk is suitable for use as a probiotic. The MIC value for the 10 antibiotics specified in the EFSA guidance was below the acceptable cut-off value. The antibiotic resistance genes aac(6')-li, eatAv, and msr(C) exist by whole genome sequencing, but are in the chromosome and not in the plasmid, thus confirming that there is no possibility of transmission to other microorganisms. It was confirmed that cytolysin (cylA, cylB, cylI, cylL-l, cylL-s, cylM, cylR1, cylR2), aggregation substance (asa1, asp1), collagen adhesion (ace), enterococcal surface protein (esp), endocarditis antigen (efaA), hyaluronidase (hyl) and gelatinase (gelE) were not present in the genome by examining the genes of factors related to virulence. Also, the biochemical analysis showed no toxic enzyme activities, and no virulence genes were detected by the PCR method. Thus, the E. faecium CKDB003 strain can be safely used as a health functional food probiotic, based on the results of the safety assessment.

Effects of betaine, a major component of Lycii Fructus, on carbon tetrachloride intoxicated rats were evaluated. Histological studies showed that betaine had improved the typical necrosis around centrilobular area in liver tissue due to the carbon tetrachloride intoxication. Betaine, whether it was administrated simultaneously or prior to carbon tetrachloride, prevented or retarded the elevation of liver-weight/body-weight ratio due to the carbon tetrachloride intoxication. Betaine also significantly elevated the reduced activities of some enzymes, cytochrome P-450, 7-ethoxycoumarin-O-deethylase and glutathione-S-transferase, involved in xenobiotic metabolism due to carbon tetrachloride intoxication. These results demonstrate a possible hepato-protective role of betaine against fatty liver that could be easily induced by carbon tetrachloride in rat.

컴퓨터나 모바일 기기 사용자들이 필요한 자료나 정보 등을 검색하거나 콘텐츠가 있는 웹사이트를 찾는 경우, 흔히 사용하는 검색만으로는 어려움을 겪을 때가 존재한다. 이에 본 논문은 이러한 불편함을 최소화하기 위해 스마트폰 이용자가 원하는 콘텐츠를 찾고자 하는 경우, 분야별로 중요한 사이트들을 모아 해당 콘텐츠가 있는 사이트를 리스트로 제공해주는 어플리케이션을 개발하였다. 이는 사용자들에게 원하는 콘텐츠가 있는 사이트를 좀 더 쉽게 찾을 수 있도록 편리성을 줄 것이라 기대한다.
광촉매 활성이 우수한 판상형 ZnO 결정의 대용량 합성

결정핵-매개 소프트-용액 방법을 이용하여 판상형 ZnO 나노입자를 합성하였다. 합성된 판상형 ZnO 나노입자는 많은 결함이 존재하는 (0001)면이 발달하여 상업적인 ZnO 나노입자 보다 광촉매 특성이 우수하였다. 또한, 판상형 ZnO 나노입자의 세포독성이 실리카 코팅을 통해 감소함을 확인하였다. 마지막으로 판상형 ZnO를 합성하는데 필요한 성장용액의 다양한 시약 조건들을 변화시키면서 상업적인 적용이 가능한 수백 그램 스케일로 대량합성 하는데 처음으로 성공하였다. ZnO nanoplates were prepared by seed-mediated soft-solution process. Photocatalytic property of ZnO nanoplates was superior to that of conventional ZnO nanoparticles owing to the enhanced (0001) plane with large defect sites. In addition, we found that silica coating method could provide to reduce cytotoxicity of ZnO nanoplates. Finally, we have successfully synthesized for the first time large-scale synthesis of plate-type ZnO as few hundreds gram scale for industrial applications through controlling various reagents of growth solution.
