        金東龍,曺海豊 全北大學校 1990 論文集 Vol.32 No.-

ISDN(Integrated Services Digital Network) can be standardized digital transmission of various voice and data information. In digital transmissions, simultaneous two-way transmission of data signals over two-wire circuits can, in principle, be achieved by the application of hybrid couplers. In a two-wire full-duplex transmission circuit, a transversal filter, a lookup table and multi-RAM(m-RAM) are generally proposed for Echo Canfellation Method(ECM), and the adaptation algorithms are prepared for them. In this paper we describe convergence performance of ECM with sign algorthm, and to find out the result we used computer simulations.

      • 느릅나무 慾望의 底流가 되어 있는 寫實과 象徵의 硏究

金東龍 진주산업대학교 1982 論文集 Vol.20 No.-

        A. S. Downer says that “Desire Under the Elms”is one of the most brilliant summits in American modern drama. The noted Japanese scholar who majors in Eugene O'Neil, Inoue, Souzi, presents the three methods of explanation of “Desire Under the Elm”.In it, he emphasizes “who is the hero in this drama”depends on “what is symbolizing the elm tree”. So, I think, it is very interesting problem to decide on “who is the hero in this drama”. Inoue Souzi gives his support to Cabot theory in his explanation of “Desire Under the Elms”(see example 1). In my opinion, I think that when he criticizes this drama from this standpoint, he makes a lot of mistakes in his study method. In this study, I have taken Quinn's Cabot theory, Clark's Abbie theory, and Skinner's Eben theory and tried to make it clear that the hero of this drama is Eben because the elm tree symbolizes none other than Eben's late mother. The study obtained here through the three theories is: 1. A. H. Quinn's Cabot theory Quinn says that old Cabot is the hero of this drama, for the description of Abbie and Eben are ambiguous, and old Cabot is greedy (see example 2), but his warm hearted character has been depicted very well through this whole drama (see example 3). He still emphasizes Cabot is the hero, for this drama has formed a story around old Cabot. Mentioning Eben's character, he emphasizes that Eben is their mixed son who was born between his father's desire to posses and his mother's timid character. In my opinion, I think, I am sorry hi comments only Cabot realistic drawing. 2. B. H. Clark's Abbie theory Clark criticizes that this drama is the discord between the puritanic commandment that old Cabot is eager to pursue and the liberal thoughts of the romantic future generations whom his sons are trying to get rid of. The Puritan commandments are often being censured everywhere. (see example 4-7) Clark gives his support to Abbie theory. His theory interest the scholars who major in Eugene O'Neil. But I think, in his theory, he comments only his realistic explanations who are entirely due to his disregard of symbolic beings. 3. R. D. Skinner's Eben Theory Skinner says that Eben is the hero of this drama, although old Cabot seems as if he were master of the whole drama. Skinner also says that O'Neil has depicted this drama in the same symbolic expression as Greek Incest tragedy had had. We know he has depicted “Dynamo”and“Mouring becomes Electra”in the same way. Skinner says that Eben's character and looks(see example 9) have suited exactly in those of elm tree. (see example8) Eben's ghastly looks that has been well harmonized with that of elm tree have given the theme and emited the mysterious atmosphere. (see example 10-18). 4. O'Neil's symbolic world The elm tree that has been emited their horrible shadow is Eben's late mother's spirit, and they are beckonning to Eben to revenge for his mother. The shadow of the elm tree that have been rooted deeply through the whole drama are symbolizing tacitly the unlucky sinister tragic omen of the Cabot. I think “Desire Under the Elm”is well harmonized with the both of realism and symbolism just like the harmony of the male and female principles, and made one of the most brilliant summits in American modern drama. (see ezample.19-28).

      • "暴風雨 치는 언덕"의 批評學的 考察

金東龍 진주산업대학교 1981 論文集 Vol.19 No.-

In this study, an attempt is made to criticize the portrait of Catherine and Heathcliff from the biographical viewpoint using 7 examples quoted from “Ellis and Action Bell”and other works and is also made to study to compare “Wuthering Heights”to“Jane Eyer”from the ethical viewpoint using 6 examples quoted from “Wuthering Heights”,“Jane Eyes”,“The Philosopher”, and Inner Voice and Outside Authority in “T.S. Eliot's The Function of Criticism”. 1. The Portrait of Catherine Earnshow from the biographical viewpoint T.S. Eliot and May Sinclare tell us that the biographical study through the auther's real life is very useful to the critics. In “Ellis and Action Bell”(quoted example 1), Charlotte tells us that Emily is so ignorant of social life that she needs the interpreter between her and her surrounding people, and also tells us when her death is near he shewed her clothes herself with her withered hands.(quoted example 2). Her indomitable will and unadaptable character to the social life are depicted in the portrait of Catherine Earnshow. 2. The portrait of Heathcliff from the biofraphical view point When Charlotte published the new edition of “Wuthering Heights”(quoted example 3), in her preface she tells us that Heathcliff is a man unable to rescue, he is seemed to be an incarnation of the revenge and demon, he has a furious and inhumane passion, and his revengeful character is found everywhere all through his works except Hareton Earnshow and Nelly Dean. My opinion is on the whole the same as Charlotte's. But if we obsorb carefully the pattern of this works, we think that it could be never easily say so. In another words, if Charlotte obsorbed the pattern of this works carefully, she never failed to see that Heathcliff's love to Catherine was most sincere, passionate, and human one. Heathcliff cries with aloud voice to the dead and motionless lover in a pathetic voice. (quoted example 4). The voice tto the dead montionless lover is that of Heathcliff's most sincere, passionate, and humane love. How an inhumane love can struck such a deep impression upon our hearts? Indeed, their love is one of the pure glorification of our humane passion. Strictly speaking, I dare say that the pattern of this works is not written the ethical morals, but the record of the revenge that been betrayed by his unforgetaful Emily and her family. Before Emily, in the history of English literature, there were no writers who had depicted their passion more furious, more demonic, and more immoral than this works. (quoted example 5) Heathcliff, the incarnation of revenge, throws the scornful eyes to Edgar Linton, a man of moral, who is faiful to his wife as a husband. (quoted example 6). 3. The comparative study between “Wuthering Heights”and “Jand Eyer” As Heathcliff's love to Catherine presents a striking contrast to Edgar Linton's love to her, so Rochester's and St. Inhn's love to Jane present a striking contrast. Jane wrote a letter to St. John that she had agreed to marry him(quoted example 7). In“Jane Eyer”, Jane chooses to marry St. John rather because of her duty than because of her sincere love. When Rochester persuades her to love him, she gives rise to complication in her mind whether to marry him is helpful for her or not. She heard the moral voice of Outside Authority(T.S Eliot's The Funtion of Criticism and After Strange God) still ringing to her ears (quoted example 8-9). But in “Wuthering Heights” only the immoral roaring of Inner Voice is heard to her. Heathcliff don't hesitate to speak that“You love me-then what right have you leave me (quoted example 10)? Catherine answers immediately“I have done wrong. I am dying for it. It is enough!”(quoted example 11) 4. The comparative study of supernature between “Wuthering Heights”and“Jane Eyer" from the ethical viewpoint. In “Wuthering Heights”we can not hear the voice of pangs of guilty conscience committed adultery. In another words, Catherine doesn't mind what people may say about loving the man who is not her husband. Therefore, the supernature in“Wuthering Heights”is the record of the Inner Voice. Half-mad Heathcliff and the ghost the sepherd saw are still vivid to our eyes. Meanwhile, the supernature in “Jane Eyer”suddenly changes into a revolt of Inner Voice which has been restraint by a passion so much. The moment she determines to marry to St. John because of her duty to him, the platonic voice of Rochester is heard somewhere (quoted example 12). 5. The problem of “conquered good and conquering ill” In my opinion, the most difficult problem in “Wuthering Heights”is Emily's literary parrern which is quite differnt from Charlotte's. I cann't not sympasize with Charlotte's opinion that if Heathcliff had been treated carefully and kindly, such a tragedy couldn't have happened. As Herberd Read says, the most difficult problem in “Wuthering Heights”is conquered good and conquering ill (quoted example 13).

        T.S. Eliot의 Four Quartets의 構造

金東龍 한국영어영문학회 경남지부 1988 현대영미어문학 Vol.5 No.-

The structure of T.S. Eliot's Four Quartets has the same patterns as cloth which is woven with vertical and horizontal threads. In this study, my aim is to identify both the vertical threads and horizontal threads rooted everywhere in Four Quartets, I also plan to chart the complete structural diagram of this work. In 'The Music of Poetry', one of his critical essays, Eliot mentions two ideas about the structure of Four Quartets. The two ideas are: first, 'there are some possibilities for verse which bear some analogy to the development of a theme by different groups of instruments,' and second, 'there are some possibilities of transitions in a poem comparable to the different movements of a symphony or a quartet.' The organization of Four Quartets is interesting. Many critics designate the first idea mentioned above as the vertical threads and the second idea as the horizontal threads in Four Quartets. In Four Quartets, there are two themes, time and timeless, and Eliot's own four voices which are comparable to the sounds that musicians make when they perform a quartet with different kinds of instruments. Also in this work there are analogies, thought content which is repetitious, contrapuntal arrangements, wordplays, parodies and stress metres which are also repetitious. In Four Quartets, the poet has four symbols, four seasons, and four places. The symbols in Four Quartets are Burnt Norton symbolizing air, East Coker symbolizing earth, The Dry Salvages symbolizing water, and Little Gidding symbolizing fire. The seasons in Four Quartets are Burnt Norton which represents spring, East Coker which represents summer, The Dry Salvages which represents autumn, and Little Gidding which represents winter. The places in Four Quartets are Burnt Norton which represents a manor in Gloucester, East Coker which represents the poet's birthplace in Somersett, The Dry Salvages which represents the sunken rocks in Dry Salvages, and Little Gidding which represents the Little Gidding Church in Huntingdonshire. In the vertical threads in BN, Eliot has two kinds of voices. One is extremely dismal and the other is extremely rapturous. Both the themes of time and timeless in BN represent the performance of the first violin through the 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 movements of a musical composition, and also represent the performance of the sounds which symbolize two kinds of air, the impure air which is extremely dismal and the pure air which is extremely rapturous during his staying in Gloucester, one spring day. In the vertical threads in EC, Eliot has two kinds of voices. One is extremely somber, and the other is extremely fascinating. Both the themes of time and timeless in EC represent the performance of the second violin through the 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 movements of a musical composition, and also represent the performance of the sounds which symbolize two kinds of earth, the infertile earth which is extremely sad and the fertile earth which is extremely fascinating during his staying in Somersett, one summer day. In the vertical threads in DS, Eliot has two kinds of voices. One is extremely mournful, and the other is extremely beatific. Both the themes of time and timeless in DS represent the performance of the cello through the 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 movements of a musical composition, and also represent the performance of the sounds which symbolize two kinds of water, the wild water which is extremely mournful and the still water which is extremely beatific during his staying in Dry Salvages, one autumn day. In the vertical threads in LG, Eliot has two kinds of voices. One is extremely sorrowful and the other is extremely delightful. Both the themes of time and timeless in LG represent the performance of the viola through the 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 movements of a musical composition, and also represent the performance of the sounds which symbolize two kinds of fire, the unpurifying fire which is extremely sorrowful and the purifying fire which is extremely delightful during his staying in the Little Gidding Church, one winter day. In conclusion, the vertical threads in Four Quartets are Eliot's four kinds of voices which are extremely sad (time theme) and extremely ecstatic (timeless theme); weeping in BN appealing in EC, resenting in DS, and attaching in LG and unweeping in BN unappealing in EC, unresenting in DS, and unattaching in LG. In Four Quartets, Eliot gives a performance thats makes such a vertical transitions as mentioned above, using the extremely sad voices and the extremely ecstatic voices. His performance includes the first violin in BN the second violin in EC, the cello in DS, and the viola in LG. The horizontal transitions in all the first movements take place when the poet develops all the first movements in BN, EC, DS and LG horizontally, using the horizontal threads. As a result of this, the prosody and thought content in all the first movements have the repetitious analogies that make musical transitions. This is also true in the second, the thrid, the fourth, and fifth movements. The horizontal transitions obtained from the horizontal threads in Four Quartets are listed below. I.a) Prosody. BN, EC, DS, and LG are composed of blank verse of approximately 50 lines. b) Thought content. In the first sections, the poet gathers the materials that he had experienced from nature and human life, and meditates in order to know the significance between time and timeless in BN, EC, DS, and LG. In the second sections, dramatizing time and timeless, the poet touches on the immortal vision momentarily in BN, and LG. The poet tastes the experiences that have transcendented space and time in EC. The poet tastes the eternal creative time that has transcendented the time of human beings in DS. II.a) Prosody. The first sections in BN, EC, DS, and LG are composed of lyrics full of metaphors and symbols that closely resemble conventional poems. Both BN, and EC are composed of lyrics that have keynotes of 8 syllables rhyming irregularly. DS is composed of a poem which has 6 stanzas symplifying sestina. LG is composed of a poem that has various long and short lines and 3 octava stanzas. The second sections in BN, EC, DS, and LG are composed of verse written in very long colloquial speech. b) Thought content. The first section in BN, shows the harmony between the universe and all creation, but the first section in EC, shows the inharmony between the universe and all creation. The first sections of both DS, and LG show the mutability of human life. The poet goes into more detail in the second sections than in the first sections. III.a) Prosody. BN, EC, DS, and LG, are composed of blank verse, the number of lines closely resembles that of lines written in the first movements, but the lines communicate to us in more prosaic style. b) Thought content, In the first sections, the poet comments on the world of The Waste Land, but in EC, and DS, the poet compares his life with a voyage, and describes the significance between life and death. In the second sections, the poet introduces the thought of the past's greatest thinkers, such as St. John of the Cross' in BN, and EC, Krishna's in DS, and Lady Juliana Norwich's in LG. IV.a) Prosody. BN, EC, DS, and LG are composed of very short lyrics full of metaphors. b) Thought content. The movements of BN, EC, DS, and LG are composed of spiritual meditations. In BN, the poet wishes to get salvation, in EC, he describes the meaning of the red cross allegorically, in DS, he gives his prayers to Maria, and in LG, he urges his soul to take a new birth. V.a) Prosody. The first sections in BN, EC, DS and LG are composed of long lines written in colloquial speech, but in the second sections, increasing the number of the lines, the poet shortens the length of line, and changes his poetic tone to a lyrical or a meditative tone. b) Thought content. In the second sections, turning back to the themes of time and timeless written in the head paragraphs of the first sections, the poet meditates on the meaning of time and timeless and tries to attain higher truths of time and timeless. I do not hesitates to say that if the structure of EN in Four Quartets is analized and compared to the structure of the other three poems (EC, DS, LG), one will discover that they have the same structural patterns as BN has. There is no doubt for me that T.S. Eliot's Four Quartets has the same structual patterns as cloth which is woven with vertical threads and horizontal threads.

      • The Family Reunion에 나타난 T.S. Eliot의 時間과 非時間 : 摩訶般若波羅蜜多心經을 中心으로 Centering on The Sutra of the Kerel of Transchendental Wisdom

        金東龍 慶尙大學校 1984 論文集 Vol.23 No.2

Eliot was one of those westners who feel acutely the peculiar fascination of oriental thoughts. His poetry and drama are deeply rooted not only to the Buddhist-like detachment but also to the same problems of time, timeless, and human anxiety as expressed in Buddhist thoughts. And especially I think so in The Family Reunion through Harry's endless agonies, his turning wheel, and his ultimate problems of human life. And Eliot's solution, too are not alien to the Buddhist thoughts. All this is the language that Buddhist understand. Yet his solution is oriental as well as universal; for the incarnate Word is at the center of the turning wheel. Just as the Bodhissattva perceived the emptiness of five skandhas(form, sensation, thoughts, confection, conciousness) and was delivered from all his sufferings and misery, so Harry peceived the emtpiness of Eumenides and was delivered from them. Many scholars who major in Buddhist thoughts say unanimously that seven atachments (joy, anger, anxiety, thinking, sorrow, astonishmetn, fear) make his own minded delusion and have his own vain minded wave waved. Seven attachments have the same relationship as water vapour and water. But when the water that had been made by man's own minded delusion is away from him, he attains his higher enlighenment. Both what Harry makes the wind blow in his mind and what Harry makes the wind kill in his mind are completly depended upon his mind. Three Enmenides have the same relationship as water and water vapour. Many buddhist scholars say that the three poison(desire, scold, foolish) that had made his minled delusion is forming water vapour. But when the water vapour that had been made in his own minded delusion is away, no Eumenides are to be seen. Flesh has the same relationships as ice and water. Five shadows(phenomenal world and conscious world) have his minded delusion grown and have his vain minded ice frozen. Mind solves every delusion. Nobody ever attained such a higher enlightenment, for man mistook water for ice. Therefore, I don't hesitate to say that ice, water vapour, and wave indicate turning world, meanwhile water indicate to the contrary. Water indicates still point. When water vapour seen in the light of emptiness, it doesn't indicate water vapour, but water. The same can be said of his form his sensation, his thoughts, his confection, and his consciousnses. When man realizes such an substances of water, he can rescue his soul from the pain of birth, death, and anxiety. He can rescue his soul from his pains of eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind. He can rescue his soul from his pains, of his form, his sound, his odour, his taste, and his object. When he realizes such a higher enlightenment of truth of water in his mind, there is no obstacles, no fear, no sufferings, no agonies, no accumultion of his aufferings, no annihilation of his sufferings in his mind. Therefore, separating from all perverted views, he reaches the final still point from turning world.

        김동용,반병열 大田大學校 産業技術硏究所 2010 산업기술연구소 論文集 Vol.21 No.2

A Systematic management of concrete curing is not carried out in the concrete work for the reinforced concrete structures. poor management of concrete curing causes the collapse of forms due to the lack of concrete strength, consequently these leads to seriouse economic loss such a the human loss and the delay of construction period. More effective real time monitoring and managing system is proposed to predict concrete strength which is able to secure the safety of the form collapse. The proposed monitoring system in the present study will be the basic research data to predict concrete strength through the measuring curing temperature of fresh concrete.

Vol.46 No.2

The purpose of this study was to analyze the in-service and pre-service teachers’ gaze empathy in life science class. Three in-service teachers and 3 pre-service teachers in high school were recruited to analyze their gaze empathy. The teacher’s gaze empathy was calculated by combining the total visit counts, transition, and average fixation duration. The results were shown as in-service teacher had a high total visit counts on student’s face. The pre-service teacher had a high total visit counts on student’s body. Also, the in-service teacher have more transitions between each students. These results means that the in-service teacher has tried to grasp the thoughts and emotions of students and conveyed prosocial meaning through gaze empathy. The pre-service teacher had longer average fixation duration in all areas than the in-service teacher, especially the longest in the face of student. This suggests that it is difficult for the pre-service teacher to deal with informations related to class and instruction, especially to understand the thoughts and emotions of students through the face. These results suggest that the in-service teacher have better gaze empathy with more student and more proficient than pre-service teacher. The results of this study can be used to effectively guide the instructional nonverbal behaviors of novice teachers and pre-service teachers.
