This study was performed to examine the effect of 2,3',4,4',5-pentachlorobiphenyl (PCB#118) on testis of male rats. PCB#118 (20 mg/kg/week) in corn oil was intraperitoneally injected to adult male rats for 2, 5, 8 weeks. The body and testicular weights were measured at 3, 6, 9 weeks of PCB treatment. The morphological changes in the rat testes were then analyzed by light microscopy (LM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed that PCB#118 caused significant change in the body weights and testicular weights. Moreover, the morphological studies that were conducted on the PCB-treated rats revealed that the number of spermatocytes and spermatids in their seminiferous tubules decreased than control group (LM). The nuclear membrane was damaged when PCB was administered to them for 9 weeks (TEM). These results suggest that the reproductive function of the adult male rats is sensitive to PCB#118, and that may affect the testicular morphology of adult male rats.
3'-methyl-4-diethylaminoazobenzene으로 유발된 랫트 hepatocellula carcinoma 모델에서 항암제의 항암효과에 대한 평가기법 개발

This study was carried out for investigating antitumor effects of 5-fluorouracil(5-FU), methotrexate(MTX) and retinoic acid(RA) on hepatocellular carcinoma induced in Sprague-Dawley rat. Antitumor effects were examined a flow cytometric DNA distributions by flow cytometry and stuied ATP/Pi using nuclear magnetic resorance, and the enzymatic activity of thymidylate synthetase and dihydrofolate reductase as well as contents of total collagen and sialic acid were measured with spectrophotometer. In this study, S phase fraction, contents of sialic acid and total collagen were decreased in the induced hepatocellular carcinoma treated with 5-FU and MTX, and synergistic effects of anticancer drugs were exhibited in the hepatocellular carcinoma treated with 5-FU and MTX simultaneously, and the inhibition of thymidylate synthetic and dihydrofolate reductase activity were shown in the hepatocellular carcinoma treated with 5-FU, MTX, and 5-FU and MTX simultaneously. On the other hand, the ratio of ATP/Pi were increased in all groups except group treated with RA. The experimental results suggest that above method may be valuable for evaluating antitumor effect of anticancer drugs.
한방사료 첨가제의 항균성 및 재래닭에서의 Campylobacter jejuni 방제효과

In this study, antimicrobial activity of oriental herbal medicine extract (OHME) was tested for someorganisms and the preventive effects of OHME for the colonization of Campylobacter jejuni on epithelium of smallintestine were examined in Korean native broiler chickens fed a forage added 1.0% OHME. The isolated Campylobactersp were biotyped, serotyped and the susceptiblility of isolates to antimicrobial agent were examined. The growthof Staphylococcus aureus was inhibited in 0.25% OHME. C. jejuni and C. coli were inhibited in 0.1% OHME, andSalmonella spp, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Escheichia coli 0157 were inhibited in 2.0% OHME. For the applicationof forage added 1.0% OHME in broiler chicken farm, the frequency of Campylobacter spp from feces, liver and spleensample of chickens were examined during 2 weeks interval. The frequence of Campylobacter spp in feces from chickensof Campylobacter spp in feces sample from chickens fed forage added OHME was slightly reduced from 25% infirst week to 15% in seventh week. The frequence of Campylobacter spp in liver, and spleen was 13.7% and 10%respectively after seventh week in control group, but the Campylobacter spp was not isolated after fifth week in liveand spleen from chickens fed forage added OHME. Isolated 56 strains of thermophilic Campylobacter from Koreannative chickens was classified as C. jejuni (76.7%), C. coli (214%) and C. laridis (1.6%). The majority of 43 isolatesof C. jejuni was clasified on biotype I (60.4%), I (30.2%). Most of 12 isolates of C.coli were biotype I (83.3%).Isolated 31strains C. jejuni of showed 11 diferent serotype, and serotype 36 (18.6%), 17 (13.9%)were most frequent.Isolated 10 strains of C. coli showed 5 different serotypes and serotype 31 (33.3%) and 21 (25%) were relativelyCampylobacter sp were highly susceptible to nalidixic acid, amikacin, gentamicin, colistin andchloramphenucol.

The aim of this study was to investigate the morphological development of fungiform papillae in Korean native goats by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Tongues were removed from fetuses on days 120 and 150 of gestation and from juveniles on days 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 after birth. The sizes of fungiform papillae in the newborn were 225.0-250.0 μm, the weaning period of 60-day-old goats were 271-294 μm and the maturing period of 180-day-old goats were 385-398 μm, respectively. The primordia of fungiform papillae had the typical feature of mushroom shape in 120-day-old fetus. In 150-day-old fetus (neonate), fungiform papillae had similar feature as adult form and were gradually increased in size with slight morphological changes until 150-day-old goat. The microridges, microplicae and micropits were well developed on the epithelial surface of lingual papillae from 60 to 150-day-old goat. The results obtained in this study might provide some basic data of the mechanisms that control the morphogenesis and development of the lingual papillae in the ruminants.

A simple and rapid analytical method for the determination of tylosin in chicken, pork and muscle was established by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography(HPLC). Chicken, pork and beef muscle(5 g) were fortified by adding the $0.2{\mu}g/ml$ of standard tylosin and the drug was extracted from meats with 70% acetonitrile(ACN) and followed by liquid-liquid partition for clean-up procedure. Then $20{\mu}l$ portion of ACN elution was directly analyzed by HPLC with spectra 100 variable wavelength detector, and unfortified blank control were treated similarly. The average recovery rate of tylosin added to chicken, pork and beef muscle were $83{\pm}2.3$, $96{\pm}3.3$ and $92{\pm}1.6$(%) at the level 0.2 ppm, respectively. No tylosin residues in marketing meats. These results suggested that HPLC methodology could be acceptable for the extraction, determination and screening of tylosin residues in edible meats.
Estradiol-17β를 처리한 흰쥐 자궁에 있어서 Clomiphene이 세포내 수용체, DNA 및 cAMP 농도에 미치는 영향

These experiments were carried out to investigate the study on the interaction of estradiol receptor and cAMP level of clomiphene in immature rat uterus. The results obtained were summarized as follow : 1. The binding affinity of clomiphene to estradiol receptor in uterine cytosol was lower than that of estradiol-17β. clomiphene inhibited the replenishment of the receptor to cystol in uterus(P<0.01). 2. DNA level in uterus was increased at 48 hours after estradiol-17β or clomiphene injection(P<0.01) 3. cAMP level in uterus was increased at 48 hours after estradiol-17β or clomiphene injection(P<0.01)
경남 남부지방에서 임상형 유방염의 원인균 분리 및 약제 감수성 시험

The present study was conducted to investigate isolation and antimicrobial drug susceptibility of clinical mastitic milking total 610 (897 quaters) dairy cattles from 36 dairy farms in Gyeongnam south area (Gosung, Masan) during the period from March 1999 to August 2002. The results obtained were summerized as follows : 1. Incidence of bacterial infection in four quaters was showed that right anterior quarter was 178(19.8%), right posterior quarter was 292(32.6%), left anterior quarter was 148 (16.2%), and left posterior quarter was 279 (31.1%), respectively. Isolation rate of posterior two quarters was higher 2 times than anterior two quarters. 2. Incidence of double infections of 897 clinical mastitic milk were showed that single infection was 549 (61.2%), double infection was 167(18.6%), triple infection was 9(1%) and no isolation was 172(19.2%). 3. Isolation of infected etiologic bacteria was showed that Streptococci spp., was 267(31%), Staphylococci spp., was 267(41%), S aureus, was 48(5.6%), G(-) bacillus was 126(5.6%), and Corynebactrium spp. was 52(6%), respectively, from total 861 samples. 4. The results of antimicrobial drug susceptibility of all isolates were showed that Streptococci spp., Staphylococci spp., S aureus, G(-) bacillus, and Corynebactrium spp. were susceptible to cefuroxime, cefoperazone, amoxicillin, cefazolin, ampicilin, penicillin, gentamicin, erythromycin, cloxacilin, ciprofloxacin, sulfamethoxasole/trimetoprim, teteracyclin, and norfloxacin (>70%), but some of them were resistant to neomycin, streptomycin colistin, and cephalothin(>60). 5. The results of drug susceptibility obtained from each farms had different susceptibility, even though, etiological microorganisms were same in each farms.
