        Plant Surface Receptors Recognizing Microbe-Associated Molecular Patterns

        As sessile, plants are inevitably exposed toenvironmental threats including pathogens. Due to the lackof mobile immune cells, plants solely depend on the innateimmune system to defend against pathogens. The first layerof pathogen detection in plant immunity is to recognizemicrobe-associated molecular patterns (MAMPs) that composestructural or functional units in microbial pathogens. For this,plants utilize pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs). Continuousattack by pathogens resulting from immotility likely contributesto the extension of PRR numbers in plants, although genomeencoded. Recent findings revealed that plant PRRs as acomplex dynamically switch between inactive and activeforms at the plasma membrane depending on a cognateMAMP. In addition, by regulating the activity and stability ofa downstream signal-relaying receptor-like cytoplasmickinase (RLCK), plants can control the immune homeostasis. Therefore, we in this review discuss on how plants detect apathogen and how they control immune responses at thelevel of PRRs in a correct and delicate way. We additionallyprovide a possible balancing mechanism between growthand responses to biotic and abiotic stresses in plants, whichis required for survival in nature.

        국내 상급종합병원의 환자복 문양 디자인 현황 분석

        A major factor in making current hospital gowns is how to manage patients from the standpoint of hospitals. This shows that hospital gowns have not been considered as an apparel for a specific purpose with a design that considers the psychological composure of patients. This study, along with a meticulous analysis of the pattern design of domestic hospital gown suggests a design philosophy that can be of emotional help to patients. The analysis of hospital gowns in terms of motif is that the corporate identity of the hospital in question, along with the lettering symbolizing the hospital is conspicuous. The motif shown in the pattern also has a brightness contrast and two-way pattern. This study suggests hospital gown patterns as follows. First, on the basis of color dynamics, utilize repetition arrangement, camaieu arrangement and faux camaieu arrangement. Second, make use of warm colors in order to enhance trust between patients and medical staff. Last, use green color as a dominant color for the hospital to be felt of as a convenient space. Utilizing these three factors in the future design of hospital gowns will assist in the development of new hospital gowns that render a psychological composure.

        Plant Exocytic Secretion of Toxic Compounds for Defense

        In contrast to animals, plants do not have a circulatory system as well as mobile immune cells that allow them to protect themselves against pathogens. Instead, plants exclusively depend on the innate immune system to defend against pathogens. As typically observed in the animal innate immunity, plant immune responses are composed of pathogen detection, defense signaling which includes transcriptional reprogramming, and secretion of antimicrobial compounds. Although knowledge on recognition and subsequent signaling of pathogen-derived molecules called elicitors is now expanding, the mechanisms of how these immune molecules are excreted are yet poorly understood. Therefore, current understandings of how plants secrete defense products especially via exocytosis will be discussed in this review.

        Identification and Characterization of an Auxin-inducible Protein Kinase, VrCRK1, from Mungbean

        An auxin-inducible protein kinase, VrCRK1, was isolatedby a differential reverse transcriptase-polymerasechain reaction, using mRNAs extracted from auxintreatedmungbean hypocotyls. VrCRK1 exhibits highhomology with plant CDPKs over catalytic domains, however, it does not have any calcium-binding EF-hand which is typically shown in plant CDPKs. Auxin treatment increased the expression level of VrCRK1. However, the increased level was reduced to basal level by treatment with PCIB, an auxin inhibitor. When extracts of mungbean hypocotyls were immunoprecipitated and the resultant immunoprecipitates were used as the enzyme source, kinase activity of VrCRK1 was found, and such activity was also increased by auxin treatment. In transgenic tobacco plants that express VrCRK1, the transcript levels of some auxin-dependent genes were elevated as much as those in wild type plants treated with auxin. These results indicate that gene expression of VrCRK1 is specifically induced by auxin, and that VrCRK1 may play a role in auxin signaling via protein phosphorylation.

        Plant Defense Responses Coming To Shape

        Although still poorly understood, accumulating evidence clearly supports that plants also have a good immune system which have been developed and acquired during the evolution. The lack of specific mobile immune cells like a B or T cell in plants additionally suggests that most plant cells have capacity for defending themselves against numerous pathogens. Rapidly growing advances in understanding plant defense responses implicate that plant and animal immune responses are evolutionarily convergent although their origins are thought to be different. On the basis of recent findings, here current understanding of plant defense responses will be discussed.

        패션필름에 나타난 촉지각 경험 유발 요인

        Fashion films with screen limits have a way of changing communication methods through sensorial organs in order to go beyond limits. This study shows that such change is possible if fashion films are based on haptic factors. This study examines haptic factors of fashion films from the three perspectives of filming factors of different shot size, synesthetic, and cinematic screen methods. First, when the subject to be emphasized is enlarging, the observer comes to project themselves to the situation and incurs a haptic sensation. Second, when associating an experience by personal recollection or social customs when more than two senses are stimulated simultaneously, haptic sensations, triggered by multiple senses, takes place. Third, a blurred image shows haptic sensations through inducing observers to see into the meaning of a shot. As a result, the senses of the observer enlarge and enhance a communication ability through absorbing and accepting a fashion film. Furthermore, fashion films are effective in understanding the cultural forms of the age.

        패션필름의 오프라인 플랫폼 연구

        Fashion brands communicate with consumers through the use of fashion films that are effective in the delivery of the image. This is because digital media (such as fashion films) are popular and accessible as well as effective in attracting people's attention. The reasons why fashion films have become a new fashion media among many others is becuase they are based on an existing platform. This study will examine offline platforms of fashion film: flagship store, fashion exhibition, and fashion show. The offline platform of a fashion film is a physical space where a fashion film can be exhibited and viewed as a medium that can effectively convey fashion film to consumers. As a research method, the concept of an offline platform of fashion film is established based on a literature review of fashion films and platform that is followed by an empirical case study. The study results show that the offline platform of a fashion film is in the progress of turning into an autotelic space where the consumption of such culture as cinema and theater has become possible.
