중학교 과학 학습 자료에서 삽화 제시 유형에 따른 학습 효과: ‘소화와 순환’ 관련 학습 자료를 중심으로

This study investigates the effects of the different types of illustrations that are used in the Learning Materials for the unit ‘Digestion and Circulation’ in middle school science. Two topics in the unit, the ‘Inner Structure of the Small Intestine’ for digestion and the topic of ‘Oxygen-Carrying’ for circulation were examined to develop learning materials for adopting different spatial placements of illustrations and texts, for example the ‘Separation Type’ and the ‘Unity Type’. In the ‘Separation Type’ of learning materials, the texts and illustrations were separated and for the ‘Unity Type’ of learning materials, the texts were integrated into the illustrations. Two post-tests and one questionnaire after lessons were administrated to second grade students in middle school. The study found that students preferred the ‘Unity Type’ of materials. They reacted more positively to use the ‘Unity Type’ rather than the ‘Separation Type’. The post-tests confirmed that the ‘Unity-type’ of materials was more effective in student learning as well as the retention of content, as students who used the ‘Unity Type’ of learning materials achieved higher achievement scores in the first and second post-tests. The implication of the research findings are important as it shows that science teachers have to guide students to be able to connect the texts and illustrations. It is concluded that ‘Unity Type’ illustrations should be used for certain topics in science textbooks as well as learning materials. 본 연구는 중학교 과학 학습 자료에서 삽화의 제시 유형이 학생들의 학습에 미치는 효과를 알아보고, 효과적인 삽화 제시 방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 중학교 과학 교과서의 ‘소화와 순환’ 단원에서 ‘소장의 내부 구조’ 와 ‘산소 운반’을 주제로 선정하였고, 공간적 배치에 따라 본문이 삽화와 분리되어 있는 ‘분리형’과 본문이 삽화 내부에 통합되어 있는 ‘통합형’으로 구분하여 자료를 개발하였다. 중학교 2학년 학생을 대상으로 적용한 결과, ‘통합형’이 ‘분리형’에 비해 1차와 2차 학업성취도에서 효과적인 것은 공통적이지만, 주제별 삽화와 내용의 방향성에 따라 학습 효과의 차이가 있었는데, 방향성이 있는 경우 학습 효과가 높게 나타났다. 그리고 학습자가 흥미, 이해, 학습 방법 영역에서 ‘분리형’보다 ‘통합형’에 대하여 더 긍정적으로 인식하였고, ‘통합형’을 더 선호하였다. 이러한 결과를 볼 때 과학 교과서와 학습 자료에서 주제에 따라 적합하게 ‘통합형’을 제시하고, 교사는 학생들이 본문과 삽화를 연결시킬 수 있도록 지도할 필요가 있다고 생각한다.
Therapeutic Lymphatic Embolization in Pediatric Primary Intestinal Lymphangiectasia

Primary intestinal lymphangiectasia (IL) can cause leakage of lymphatic fluids into the gastrointestinal tract, eventually leading toprotein-losing enteropathy. A 15-year-old male patient, whose disease began at the age of 8 years, recently felt worsening generalweakness. After diagnosing abnormal lymphatic lesions in the duodenum through endoscopy with biopsy and contrast-enhancedmagnetic resonance lymphangiography, glue embolization of the leaking duodenal lymphatic channel was successfullyperformed. This procedure is typically reserved for adult patients, although as shown in this case, it can be properly performed inchildren. His serum albumin level was initially 1.5 g/dL, but elevated to 5.0 g/dL after two sessions of lymphatic embolization. Accordingly,we suggest that embolization could potentially be considered a first-line treatment for focal lesions of primary intestinalIL.
중학교 과학 교과서의 삽화 분석 : 소화와 순환 단원을 중심으로

The purpose of this study was to analyze the illustrations in middle school science textbooks focused on the unit "digestion and circulation" in order to draw implication to develop new science textbooks and teaching materials. In this study, the textbooks of the 7th curriculum and the ones of the 2007 revision curriculum were analyzed to investigate the changes of illustrations in science textbooks due to the curriculum revision. In addition, the analysis of a textbook of USA was conducted to compare the differences between the Korean textbooks and foreign one. The illustrations were analyzed in the respect of function, reference, construction and presentation types. As a result, the percentage of the illustrations of "Explanatory" and "Complementary" functions were increased, but the illustrations of "Illustrative" function were still far superior to other functions in Korean textbooks. Most illustrations don't have references in the texts of Korean textbooks, which would make students have difficulty to connect illustrations and texts. On the contrary, all the illustrations have captions and most illustrations have references in the texts in the textbook of USA. And the ratio of illustrations belongs to "Unity type" of presentation increased remarkably in the textbooks of the 2007 revision curriculum.
놀이-학습 모형에 근거한 개념형․융합형 교육 프로그램 개발

In this study, 'concept type program' and 'multidisciplinary type program' as science museum education program were developed based on 'Play-Learning Model in Science Museum'. This model emphasizes the learning using the articles on exhibition, the application of scaffolding and the interaction in small group, and the play which are the characteristics of science museum education. 'Concept type program' focuses on science conceptual understanding and 'multidisciplinary type program' focuses on creative thinking with converging science, mathematics, art, and humanities. Each program consist of student's learning material and teacher guide. 'Darwin 1859' and 'Investigating animals' were developed as 'concept type program'. The students understand the concept of evolution and animal classification exploring the fossils and specimen, and they participate in competition as play. 'Living organisms in old paintings' and 'Mathematics inside nature' were developed as 'multidisciplinary type program'. The students explore Joseon Dynasty paintings and they participate in the auction that is combined the competition and simulation in the former program. The students explore fossils, beehives and 'the Mona Lisa' paintings and they play the board game that is combined the competition, simulation, and chance in the latter program. The developed programs emphasize the scaffolding using 'hint' at 'exploring the exhibits' step and the interaction in small groups during play. The science museum education is implemented in a variety of forms. So the development of various programs are needed considering the process and product of this study.
