        The KMDS-NATION Study: Korean Movement Disorders Society Multicenter Assessment of Non-Motor Symptoms and Quality of Life in Parkinson’s Disease NATION Study Group

        Background and Purpose Nonmotor symptoms (NMS) in Parkinson’s disease (PD) have multisystem origins with heterogeneous manifestations that develop throughout the course of PD. NMS are increasingly recognized as having a significant impact on the health-related quality of life (HrQoL). We aimed to determine the NMS presentation according to PD status, and the associations of NMS with other clinical variables and the HrQoL of Korean PD patients. Methods We surveyed patients in 37 movement-disorders clinics throughout Korea. In total, 323 PD patients were recruited for as¬sessment of disease severity and duration, NMS, HrQoL, and other clinical variables including demographics, cognition, sleep scale, fatigability, and symptoms. Results In total, 98.1% of enrolled PD subjects suffered from various kinds of NMS. The prevalence of NMS and scores in each NMS domain were significantly higher in the PD group, and the NMS worsened as the disease progressed. Among clinical variables, disease duration and depressive mood showed significant correlations with all NMS domains (p<0.001). NMS status impacted HrQoL in PD (rS=0.329, p<0.01), and the association patterns differed with the disease stage. Conclusions The results of our survey suggest that NMS in PD are not simply isolated symptoms of degenerative disease, but rather ex¬ert significant influences throughout the disease course. A novel clinical approach focused on NMS to develop tailored management strate¬gies is warranted to improve the HrQoL in PD patients.

        Ethylene glycol potentiated didecyldimethylammonium chloride toxicity in human bronchial epithelial cells

        Didecyldimethylammonium chloride (DDAC) is an antimicrobial agent used as a preservative in household products. DDAC is toxic in human lung cells and in mouse lung. Aerosol products that contain DDAC often include ethylene glycol (EG) as a solvent; no safety information is available for respiratory toxicity of this combination (DDAC and EG). Human bronchial epithelial cells (BEAS-2B) were exposed (24 h) to DDAC and EG, separately or together. DDAC showed concentration-dependent cytotoxicity. EG did not affect cell viability. Compared to DDAC alone, EG and DDAC together enhanced mitochondrial damage and cell membrane disruption. Increased reactive oxygen species and decreased glutathione levels were seen in cells treated with the combination. Intracellular DDAC concentrations were elevated in the presence of EG. EG potentiated DDAC toxicity in lung cells by inducing oxidative stress through enhanced cellular uptake of DDAC. The use of these chemicals together in spray-type products should be carefully considered.

        『가게로 일기(蜻蛉日記)』의 작자와 양녀입양

        In this paper, I investigated the reason why the mother of Michitsuna who wrote Kagero Nikki, decided to adopt a girl. To demonstrate that, I have proceed three steps. At first step, previous studies were analyzed to reveal what issues are included in this adoption. The reason of adoption was considered as contributions of Michitusna’s promotion or a relationship to her husband Fujiwara Kaneie in previous studies. But several paragraphs which can hardly make us say mother of Michitsuna wanted her son’s promotion unconditionally or improvement of relationship to her husband. Consequently, the reason of adoption by Michitsuna’s mother should be considered on her inner side rather than out side such as contributions of promotion or relationship improvement. Secondly I focused on ‘kokorobososhi’ which word represents Michitsuna’s mother’s inner side on adoption and this Nikki all. As a result of tracking its use in this Nikki, I confirmed that the representation of ‘kokorobososhi’ had changed to nebulous meaning from specific meaning. It is presumed that previous studies tried to reveal the reason with her out side factor. But it can be demonstrated with two inner side factor. Which I thirdly considered was this. What does a daughter mean to Michitsuna’s mother? This question led me to the conclusion that the mother of Michitsuna who couldn’t be understood about the relationship to husband by her son, wanted empathy with woman’s life by a step daughter. .

        3.6wt%C-2.5wt%Si 오스템퍼드 구상흑연주철의 프로세싱 윈도우에 미치는 열처리 및 구리 첨가의 영향

        3.6wt%C-2.5wt%Si 구상흑연주철을 오스템퍼링 열처리하는 동안 프로세싱 윈도우에 미치는 오스템퍼링 온도, 오스테나이트화 처리 온도와 시간, 구리 첨거량 그리고 사전 열처리의 영향을 연구하였다. 350℃의 오스템퍼링 처리 온도에서 최대 프로세싱 윈도우를 얻었다. 프로세싱 윈도우는 오스테나이트화 처리 온도가 850에서 900℃로 증가함에 따라 증가하였으나 950℃로 증가하면 오히려 감소하였다. 프로세싱 윈도우는 오스테나이트화 처리 시간이 30분에서 2시간까지 증가함에 따라 증가하였다가 4시간일 때 감소하였다. 최적 오스템퍼링 처리 조건은 900℃에서 2시간인 것으로 나타났다. 프로세싱 윈도우는 구리 첨가량이 0.0~0.8wt% 범위에서 증가함에 따라 증가하였다. 프로세싱 윈도우는 주방 상태의 구상흑연주철에 비하여 사전 노르말라이징 처리로 증가하였으며 사정 어닐링 처리로 감소하였다. The effects of austempering temperature, austenitizing temperature and time, added copper content and prior heat-treatment on the processing window of 3.6wt%C-2.5wt%Si ductile cast iron during austempering. The maximum processing window was obtained at 350℃ of austempering temperature. The processing window was increased with increased austenitizing temperature from 850 to 900℃; however, it decreased at 950℃. The processing window was increased with increased austenitizing time from 0.5 to 2 hours and rather decreased for 4 hours. The optimum condition of austenitizing was obained at 900℃ for 2 hours. The processing window was increased with copper content added in the range of 0.0~0.8wt%. The processing window was increased by prior normalizing heat-treatment and decreased by prior annealing in comparison with that for the as-cast state,

        Comparison of Peroxyl Radical Scavenging Capacity of Commonly Consumed Beverages

        The antioxidant potential of commercial beverages against peroxyl radical was determined using the Total Oxyradical Scavenging Capacity (TOSC) assay. Peroxyl radicals generated from thermal homolysis of 2,2’-azobis-amidinopropane oxidize α-keto-γ-methiolbutyric acid to ethylene, which is monitored by gas chromatography. The TOSC of each beverage is quantified from its ability to inhibit ethylene generation relative to a control reaction. Nine different beverages (green tea, jasmine tea, black tea, instant coffee, brewed coffee, cocoa mix, oolong tea, prune juice, and grape juice) were selected for this study. Their antioxidant capacities per a cup-serving (125 mL) were measured and compared to peroxyl radical scavenging capacity provided by a recommended daily dose of ascorbic acid (90 mg) dissolved in the same volume of water. The greatest antioxidant capacity was found in brewed coffee, which was followed, in decreasing order, by prune juice, instant coffee, green tea, cocoa mix, grape juice, jasmine tea, black tea, oolong tea, and ascorbic acid. There was an almost 7-fold difference in the TOSC between brewed coffee and ascorbic acid. The data suggest a potential role for commonly consumed beverages in lowering the risk of pathophysiologies associated with peroxyl radical-mediated events.

        Comparison of Hydroxyl Radical, Peroxyl Radical, and Peroxynitrite Scavenging Capacity of Extracts and Active Components from Selected Medicinal Plants

        The ability of 80% ethanol extracts from five medicinal plants, Aralia continentalis, Paeonia suffruticosa, Magnolia denudata, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, and Schizonepeta tenuifolia, to neutralize hydroxyl radical, peroxyl radical and peroxynitrite was examined using the total oxyradical scavenging capacity (TOSC) assay. Peroxyl radical was generated from thermal homolysis of 2,2'-azobis(2-methylpropionamidine) dihydrochloride (ABAP); hydroxyl radical by an iron-ascorbate Fenton reaction; peroxynitrite by spontaneous decomposition of 3-morpholinosydnonimine N-ethylcarbamide (SIN-1). The oxidants generated react with α-keto-γ-methiolbutyric acid (KMBA) to yield ethylene, and the TOSC of the substances tested is quantified from their ability to inhibit ethylene formation. Extracts from P. suffruticosa, M. denudata, and S. tenuifolia were determined to be potent peroxyl radical scavenging agents with a specific TOSC (sTOSC) being at least six-fold greater than that of glutathione (GSH). These three plants also showed sTOSCs toward peroxynitrite markedly greater than sTOSC of GSH, however, only P. suffruticosa revealed a significant hydroxyl radical scavenging capacity. Seven major active constituents isolated from P. suffruticosa, quercetin, (+)-catechin, methyl gallate, gallic acid, benzoic acid, benzoyl paeoniflorin and paeoniflorin, were determined for their antioxidant potential toward peroxynitrite, peroxyl and hydroxyl radicals. Quercetin, (+)-catechin, methyl gallate, and gallic acid exhibited sTOSCs 40~85 times greater than sTOSC of GSH. These four components also showed a peroxynitrite scavenging capacity higher than at least 10-fold of GSH. For antioxidant activity against hydroxyl radical, methyl gallate was greatest followed by gallic acid and quercetin. Further studies need to be conducted to substantiate the significance of scavenging a specific oxidant in the prevention of cellular injury and disease states caused by the reactive free radical species.

        한의표준임상경로에 기반한 치매 안심 한의주치의 모형 개발 연구

        Objectives: This study aims to establish a Korean medicine doctor’s range of services in the dementia relief primary care system based on the previously developed dementia clinical practice guidelines (CPGs). Developing a dementia relief primary care Clinical Pathway (CP) can aid clinically when the Korean medicine primary care doctor conducts treatment. Methods: We analyzed Dementia Korean Medicine Primary Care Model Data and then applied CP Methodology to develop the configuration of the Korean Medicine Primary Care Model. For patients with Alzheimer's dementia (AD), vascular dementia (VD), and mild cognitive impairment (MCI), the Korean Medicine Primary Care Model focuses on improving cognitive function, everyday living abilities and easing symptoms through interventions described in CPGs. The contents of the draft model later include references to already-existing CPs. Results: The study sites were chosen as Korean medical clinics connected to primary care physicians in the dementia-friendly model. The CP used a time task matrix version to arrange the clinical chronology, which included all examinations, diagnoses, and treatment procedures, from the initial appointment to follow-ups and the end of therapy. Conclusions: It anticipates that Korean primary care doctors familiar with dementia can use the offered therapies for the first time by creating the dementia Korean medicine primary care model in this study. This is expected to maximize the range of medical services provided by Korean medicine and improve the standard of medical treatment.

        영화 <조>를 통해 본 SF서사의 전망: 인공지능 로봇의 호모 사케르적 특성에 기반하여

        Zoe is a science fiction film about the love of artificial intelligence robots and humans. Based on the characteristics of the artificial intelligence robot shown in this film, we can predict the narrative of SF film. The AI robot in the movie is characterized by being located in a non-identifying zone in that it is almost indistinguishable from humans. These homo-sacer characteristics led to the confusion of AI robots. The protagonist Zoe was in trouble even in a relationship due to the characteristic of an artificial intelligence robot, which is indistinguishable from humans. We can expect this confusion to increase in future SF films. Beyond the dichotomous confrontation between machine and human beings, AI robots have evolved to become the subject of equal relation with human beings. To prepare for this problem, we need to look at the narrative from the posthuman perspective. Even humans should pay attention to the phenomenon of losing their own personality. The future science fiction film is based on the concept of post-human, which encompasses not only machines but also new perspectives on existing humans.
