A Case of Sporotrichosis Manifesting Unusual Location Jeong Peo Kook, M.D., Seung Churl Lee, M.D., Inn Ki Chun, M.D., Young Pio Kim, M.D. Department of Dermatology, Chonnam University Medical School, Kwangju, Korea Sporotrichosis is a fungal infection caused by Sporothrix schenckii and its cutaneous infections are very rare on the trunk. A 48-year-old male patient came to our clinic because of 1.3 ×0.7㎝ sized erythematous solitary nodule with crust on the right flank for 1 year. The biopsy specimen of the lesion showed characteristic arrangement of the infiltrate in three zone with H-E stain and round sopre with PAS stain. S. Schenckii was isolated by the culture of biopsy tissue pieces on Sabouroud`s dextrose agar media at room temperature, 35℃ and 37℃. The patient was treated with surgical excision of lesion and oral administration of itraconazole(200㎎/day) for 1 month. The patient was seen in consultation 1]weeks after therapy was discontinued, and he was in excellent condition. (Kor J Dermatol 28(5) : 606-610, 1990)
